Yeah Ballon d'Or is like the MVP award but its much, much harder to win, as MVP is just best player of one league but Ballon d'Or is best player in the world. Before the Ronaldo/Messi era the record for most Ballon d'Or won by one player was three. No player ever had won more than 3 Ballon d'Ors. Now there are only two players with more than three. Ronaldo who has won five and Messi who has won seven (and there is still the possibility for Messi to win an eighth as he recently won the World Cup which is the most prestigious team trophy). It's not a very realistic example but the record in the NBA for most MVPs is Kareem Abdul-Jabbar with 6. Now imagine there comes a new player and he wins like 13-14 MVPs. That's how insane Messi's 7 Ballon d'Ors are.
(But I gotta add that to the Ballon d'Or exists since 1956 but professional football was played much earlier. And until 1995 it was an (exclusive) european trophy. So just european players from european clubs were able to win it. For example Pele and Maradona were considered the GOATs before Messi and Ronaldo but both never won a Ballon d'Or as they aren't europeans. If Pele could've won the Ballon d'Or he surely would've won it for 5 times or more. And there probably would've been a hand of players from the early 50's/late 40's and pre-war era who could've won the trophy multiple times if it would've existed back then)

The fun part was left out though ;) he failed 3 times against Germany in the WC: '06 in the best of 8, '10 in the best of 16, '14 in the final. Only now that Germany is weak af was he able to win. What you said about him leaving his teammates out of play is something I disliked when I was a kid and why I was proud at Germany to beat him like this several times. On the other hand such a comment is obviously a bit disrespectful to the other players he was playing with at the time around 2010. Xavi, Iniesta, Villa, Et'too, Ibra, Henry, Puyol, Pique were all beasts aswell and without them he would never have been as successfull. It was only after 2014 that barca became as focused on messi as this looks (and even then he had neymar and suarez on his side)
