    If this music thing doesn’t work out, James has a backup career in voice over work and narration. The speaking tone of his voice is just so relaxing to listen to.

    Man… can’t hold tears more… I’m a Metallica fan since the very beginning, buying Kill’Em All vinyl in ‘83. I’m a 52 year old father of 3 wonderful human beings now. Hearing James talk about purpose and vulnerability is clearly speaking to me. I’m blessed my favorite band since ever is still totally in sync with me, my life and my love for heavy music. Big hug to you James!! Thanks for being human. See you in Montreal in August!!!

      This album is heavy:) it's just very produced. If it was recorded with 1980s tech it would be just as heavy as master of puppets

      Compared to 2019-2020 he looks healthier, more vital, happier. That's just so cool and not because of the band, but, because of him. He'd achieved so many things, and gone through many things that I think, " he just deserves to be happy"

    This moment in time is peak Hetfield. I love this version of James and am genuinely happy for him and the place that he appears to be in.       Really is a solid record. Love that there is more input from Kirk & Rob as well…feels some of the gaps that exists in the 2nd half of HTSD IMO

    It's incredible how he has improved physically in recent years. He came to have a lot of weight, quite long hair and not well combed, many wrinkles on his face. And the sad eyes... . He suffered a lot. Getting away from the damn alcohol and other meds/drugs and having good people by his side, and making jokes has been a life saver.

      I remember being staggered when I first saw him looking like what you described. I had taken a bit of a break from checking in on Metallica there for a little while and then when I did again(right about the time S&M 2 was out) I couldn’t believe how much he had suddenly aged and didn’t look well. I was so used to the fit and friendly looking guy of the previous decade+
      So glad he’s back to health again. He’s looking trimmed up in this interview and the lucidity has returned. He must have some amazing support in his life to be able to get back on track the way he does.

    Personally I think that James ,being who he is and having the platform that he has, being able to talk honestly about rehab and his reasons for going there is an inspiration in itself. Being a 50 year old myself who struggled with addictions and depression in my younger years have nothing but admiration for this part of him regardless of his fame and lifestyle!!!

      i'm guessing it was a choice to have the focus on James, but kinda failed because the interviewer's questions can sometimes be long, thoughtful and reflective. I had to adjust the volume knob throughout the duration.

      I just watched "Some Kind of Monster," which is amazing. I cried 3-4 times watching it and the making of. They're so humble and funny and intelligent and just plain human and handsome and romantic.

    This man has been my " idol " and inspiration since 1988 , 72 Seasons sounds so alive and vibrant and gives me hope for the future of our Band , James seems happy and healthy and that's all that matters!
    The new album kicking ass doesn't suck either !
    Favourite track so far is Room of Mirrors, classic in the making!

    Can't help but admire this man's honesty. As he said, He's living his dream, one that many never achieve, but he retains his humanity and all the flaws that go along with that, despite such commercial success. In his later years, he's found a way to communicate that to people, without embarrassment. or feeling 'weak' for doing so. Clearly a tough sort of guy, but an inspiring person.

      I first heard Metallica- Kill ‘Em All in 83 when I was 12 and in grade 6 haha ! ( I’m almost 52 now 🤟🏻😎🤟🏻 and still a headbanger 🤪🙂) I still love almost all metal music new or old. I’ve been super lucky over the years to see some unreal shows live ! seen Prong , Sepultura and Pantera in 1994. Such a Killer Show ! ( met Vinnie Paul in 2012 and had him autograph my ‘94 Far Beyond Driven tour concert shirt…18 years later 😄 Vin was really cool, friendly and funny ! 😊 also got to see Black Sabbath in 1999 at Ozzfest , and Ozzy solo 4x and tons more bands pretty much anyone you can list over the years, most of them 3 or 4 times . I have really been enjoying going deeper down the 🪣Buckethead 🤖 rabbit hole ( as I write this I think he’s at 500.+ !!! Albums! Bucketheadland Pikes series + about 80 or more other projects ?) it’s the greatest thing I’ve come across in the last 10 years or so ( maybe ever?) … that dude is so insanely good on a guitar! 🎸 I’ve played for 37 years myself at this point. To Anyone who has never heard his solo music.. You Absolutely Need To ! I can’t even begin to explain how incredible he is… Bucket 🪣 will quite literally Blow Your Mind ! an entire universe of different styles… and he can play them All… Extremely well!🎸🤟🏻🤯🤟🏻 Even after at least 10 years straight of playing his music every day… I am only continually even more amazed all the time at his skill on the 🎸axe 🪓 !

      I just really discovered them this year after my son played me "No Leaf Clover" (I'm older than them). I'm now obsessed and have a LOT of material to go through!! Saw them last week and they were great. Saw Some Kind of Monster and cried several times. I dig their authenticity in addition to their talent and good looks.

    So glad you shared this James. I’m 54 now and I have the same life long challenge to own my life and let go of the blame I put at my parents feet no matter how they chose to own their part or not. The irony is I wasn’t a Metallica fan in the 80’s and 90’s and it’s my 18 year old son who got me listening to you guys by playing your music on his guitars 24/7. Now looking back my son reminds me of you in the hair days. Haha Thanks brother.

    This man has been my hero since I was ten years old. I’m forty now, and he’s even more of a hero to me now than ever before; for completely different reasons. If I were to say that to him in person, I’m sure it would make him feel awkward, so I never would. Instead, should I ever be lucky enough to meet him, I would simply shake his hand and say thank you.

    Papa het is a legend him and Metallica have helped me through countless issues in my life.. I will always be grateful for Metallica!
    Never had the money or opportunity to see them in concert but I still am a life long fan at 42, I'm a homeless veteran now due to bad decisions.. but Metallica have given me strength.. Even in the worst of times!

    It's comforting in its way to hear James say he's still trying to figure himself out. I'm in my mid-40s, certainly no where near being in a place in life and mentally where I want to be. I suppose one's whole life is the pursuit of that and you do what you can. Best of luck, James.

    James you & Metallica’s have no idea how many peoples and lives in many forms, you have saved! I will never forget being at my lowest, during an illness ,post break up, loneliness in a cold far away country- but i went to see you in Germany in a concert and I swear to God that watching you was a healing. That night was really unreal and saved my life and my mind! I love you forever ♥️♥️💕

    As a musician and for many years that you've been doing it I give you so much credit that you've been through I'm a very big fan of you and your band you have the most awesome voice ever I am 58 years old and been a fan since day one music was always a therapy for me if it was in a car or your house wherever if I was in that dark place listening to music made me feel better I know what it feels like cuz I've been through depression and mental illness and having anxiety and panic attacks through my life and listening to your music always just took that darkness away and I thank you so much and thumbs up to you that you went and got your stuff together it's not easy especially you as a very big entertainer especially being around a million people and traveling all the time that's got to be very stressful I mean it sounds like fun but when you've been doing it for as many as years of you guys been doing it I really don't know how it is but I thank you and just keep positive and stay out of darkness because you are one badass musician you have a very beautiful gift I wish you the best and I will always be listening to you till the day that I die thank you for being you 👍✌️🎶🎤💯

      Album is meh. I mean, it's impressive Metallica can still make music and tour stadiums at their advanced age but this album is nothing memorable compared to old works. It's just a money maker to cash in with new generation. They are millionaires from royalties from past works.

    This group is so amazing. To be as successful as they are, but to remain as humble as they all seem to be. The talent they all individually bring to the table, as well as the love they clearly have for each other continues to blow my mind. I got a little worried during COVID that they might start walking away from the band but when I considered how far they’d all come, I knew that the bond they had as individuals and as importantly as band members, I felt pretty sure they would continue on together. Thank you guys for all the good you’ve brought into this world, and the positive feelings you brought to all of us as your fans. Love this album.

    Everything I've been through in my life good, bad and indifferent James Hetfield has been in my ears to help me along. I am forever grateful for him (and the rest of the band) for that. James I love you as a musician and a person who is very open with your demons as I struggle with as well.

    This man. Listening to him is so therapeutic. He’s been through so much in his life, and even though I haven’t had a hard life, I’ve had moments of sadness and listening to Metallica has always helped. Hetfield’s lyrics just resonate.

    I lost my mother when I was 16 and then decided to blame the world for the trauma I went through, if it wasn’t for my father and the rest of my family and my true friends it would of been hard for me to get to where I am at 28 now, but by god did Metallica help me, James helped me so much through those years where I would shut off from the world and just put my headphones on and listen to Metallica for god knows how long, 72 seasons really does resonate with me and it’s reassuring to know we all have our demons, we all have our struggles, we have all been through shit but it’s up to us to shape our life and change our 72 seasons

    This man will always be an inspiration to me. His openness and fight to keep on going amidst the world of fame and a kind of unspoken pressure is phenomenal. To some it looks like a dream life, but I can't imagine how incredibly hard it is to keep your shit together in this industry for over 40 years!     Respect James and the rest of the band so much. I couldn’t imagine the pressure on these guys for the last decades, they’ve dealt with it admirably and openly. I enjoy seeing their growth as people and as a band. Just my two cents worth. Even if they never played another note, I couldn’t be more thankful for everything.

    I've grown up with Metallica and James has always been a rock and an inspiration to me. In my youth it was because he seemed bullet proof, like nothing could hurt him. I wanted to be that too. As the years have gone on and he's opened up about his vulnerabilities, so have I. He continues to be an inspiration to me.

    So now I know why the riffs sound raw, and lively, and youthful. It was the OGV. I knew it, I just knew that he was using the original. MAN THAT IS SO BAD ASS. LIKE SUPER wicked to just, pickup the original and just play it again. The history and the sound is so good. A lot of us are scared James, but we are fucking proud of you indeed. Hit the nail right on the head man. Be proud of what you have done, and came out with. So good man, we're proud of the band, and the music and everything. Now go kick some ass.

To be able to confront your demons time after time and to admit that you need help makes him such a good role model and blows away the stigma that men shouldn't show their weaknesses and admit their short-comings. How many prominent artists have we lost due to their demons and personal problems? Good on you, James. Oh, and the new album rocks!

    Almost a year ago, may 12th, I was in Belo Horizonte, Brasil, watching Metallica. It was my show number 11 and I never saw James so emotional. We are definitely a big family and I'm happy for that.

    I grew up with James and Metallica, and they have meant so much to me over the years. It felt like they left me after St. Anger was released and it became a void in my life until Hardwired which was when I started to reconnect with them again. And now with 72 seasons I feel like they have fully returned and I can truly embrace them again. It is almost like a long lost friend has returned.
    No idea if any of this would make sense to anyone but myself but my love for Metallica has never been stronger. 72 seasons is the album I have been waiting for for so long (over 23 years), I thought it would never happen but here we are! To me this is one of their absolute BEST albums ever!

    They helped me through the dark times in my childhood in the 80s and 90s and there was alot, gave me the strength, james you are a hero to me as well as the rest of the band, thank you, whenever people say life is moving fast. I always say " enjoy it and ride the lightning!". Forever thankful. You're a great man.

    Hatfield comes off as the neighbor next-door. Just a down to earth guy that's had a few hiccups in life, who hasn't. The more interviews I watch with James the more I like him and the band. I wish I lived in California in the 80s and had a chance to see him in the club days, buy him a beer and chat with him
