The key on the road is to get a good night's sleep and at this age you know better than to get effed up before the show. At this age the best drummers are at their prime. Make no mistake about it. We may have arthritis in certain parts but we have perfected our craft at this point. We hit those rim shots every time.

Lars is a landmark in music history, and he seems like a great person. The thing people forget about Metallica was that they were really the first band to give the fans all the dirt about themselves, and as a result made themselves look more human. As a result people stopped viewing them as monoliths, but a consequence of that is that people now think they have license to make personal criticisms at the band. Lars is genuine and honest and seems like a good hang. He also has some of the most killer drum tracks in rock and metal history. Don't let the negative nancys color your world.

There's a reason all these older bands are still massive, I think the generational thing is actually extended farther than most poeple give credence. For example, Aerosmith and Stones and Grateful Dead, these guys were huge in their "retirement" years and some are still going strong. So I think if a band can stay (and have it) together long enough, they can mutli-generational. I do feel like the idea of the frontman has kind of diminished somewhat, Alexi Laiho is the last "new" one I can think of that you actually went to the show to see him, not just the band. But my knowledge is super limited so who knows, maybe there are still super magnetic frontmen out there these days.

Yeah, but the "no repeat weekend" idea is nuts. And they haven't played the same setlist since 2004. Doing 30+ songs each weekend, no repeats, at the age of 60? A different kind of challenge, but a huge challenge. Not to mention the massive center stage in stadiums, which keeps them constantly moving.
