      @@ManBunMetalHead important question, shoudnt you do all this in the playing position? the position will change things and you'd end up out of tune again because all this is based on a guitar laying flat right? So if I do this, gotta have playing position or what am I missin?

    I LOVE THEM! I float all of mine. Think of the Floyd Rose like a draw bridge. The strings hold the trem up...like a draw bridge. Each string holds roughly 1/6 of the tension. This is why if one string breaks, it's all out of tune.

    • @mattb6646

I watched a few videos and followed the to a T, but still couldn't get it done right. I had completely forgotten about the tension springs (and the vides never mentioned them). It still rides a smidge high, but I'm not nit picky. The strings are staying put and I'm happy now.

I got a new ltd arrow 1000 and it came with 9-42s every time I would precision tune it would go flat. So I decided to just tackle it head on cause I couldn’t figure it out. Loosened all the tension and just went from tight springs loosening it how you explained in the video. Worked like a charm and I’m in tune now. Because now when i tuned the guitar down just before i found this video my floyd rose went low and then got to the same normal position when i tuned it back to standard tuning. Im kinda new on the floyd rose. I have 3 springs in now but i have room for 2 more if thats the isssue so i dont have to screw every time i wanna change tuning?

    • @ManBunMetalHead
      @ManBunMetalHead  Před 4 měsíci

      If you want the bridge level, then yes, you'd need to adjust it if you changed tuning at all. That's the unfortunate part with floating trems. Taking out a spring could help, but it's unlikely it'd be perfect. Not to mention having less springs will change the way your trem reacts.
      Something you might want to consider is some sort of trem locking device. One that either locks the trem in place or prevents it from going low. The second option would prevent you from pulling up on the trem bar, but you'd still be able to do dive bombs.

    • @ManBunMetalHead
      @ManBunMetalHead  Před 2 lety

      It depends on how much it's currently out of level, but there's a chance you would need to adjust the intonation. I do have a video on that if you decide to try it out, czcams.com/video/gjVA0BKtqu8/video.html. It's not that hard, just takes some patience. But really, the exact angle of your bridge doesn't matter that much as long as it doesn't affect the playability of the guitar. It just looks nicer when it's flat.

I've actually tried tuning down a half step with the guitar once and it worked perfectly and because my bridge was a bit high at E standard it didn't really mess up my bridge all that much at Eb tuning. So would it affect the guitar in the long run if I tuned down temporarily for some songs?

    • @ManBunMetalHead
      @ManBunMetalHead  Před 2 lety +1

    "Parallel" is not always work for certain guitar it is just a standard way to setup a guitar bridge .. Every guitar is different especially at neck angle some guitar maybe need a little tilt down or tilt up, for example steve vai and jeff beck both master in whammy bar playing they didn't set up their bridge parallel into the guitar body.

    So I’ve put thicker gauge strings on to tune to drop c. Can’t get the bridge flush with the body of the guitar (claw is already and far up as it can go and I can’t get it to go further) Does this mean I need springs with more tension/more springs? And also would I need to adjust the truss rod if I put springs on with more tension? Thankyou

    • @ManBunMetalHead
      @ManBunMetalHead  Před 11 měsíci

      Yes, it does sound like you'll want to add another spring or buy a set of stiffer springs. It sounds like there will be a good chance you'll have to adjust the truss rod as well.

    Hey man, my action is sitting a bit high after my first string change on an Ibanez RG350DX. My mate has said NOT to ever touch these two screws at the bridge but you are saying to do it. I am very confused!!!

    And what if my floyd is sitting level with the guitar, screws in back are good, neck relief is good, intonation is good, but action is still way high off the fretboard? I have a ibanez j custom with lo pro edge

      @@ManBunMetalHead string height is based on how low or high the lo pro is sitting. Mine is at the corrrect height, but the strings are still high off of the fretboard. Meaning, the edge of the recces cavity and the lo pro are at the correct height, the trem itself is sitting level but my strings are still way high off the fretboard. What do i do?

    I’m trying to restring my Floyd rose for the first time now. I’ve replaced the strings but when I try to tune it back up the bridge rises a lot. I thought this video would fix it but it’s still way too high even when I’ve screwed the screws the whole way. Do anyone have any suggestions to help me solve my problem???

    Can you explain the rationale for blocking the bridge with the battery? I've adjusted a Floyd rose to go lower and higher and in each case I just loosened the strings, adjusted the spring tension, and retuned.

    • @ManBunMetalHead
      @ManBunMetalHead  Před rokem +1

      I typically do it so the strings don't fight with the springs when I'm first winding the tuners up.

    • @roberteltze4850
      @roberteltze4850 Před 9 měsíci +1

      Without a block you are trying to balance the tension of seven things all at once, six strings and the strings. Tuning one string changes tension on the spring which changes tension on the other strings. It's a difficult balancing act.
      Blocking the bridge takes the springs out of the equation. You can tune all the strings without then effecting each other. Once you have them all tuned you have the correct tension on six of the items so you can remove the block and just have one tension left, the springs.

    Too bad I can't send pictures. I think my screws are not adjusting right or my bridge is just screwed. When I loosen the strings the bridge goes flat. When I tune them I can't get it to go flat again. It bends up like it's about fly off

      If your spring claw is screwed all the way in, you might need to either add another spring or get a set of stiffer springs.

      Pretty sure that is going to be the case with any Floyd Rose bridge. New strings introduce a variation of tension that will throw the bridge off balance.
