      It will be interesting here in the Colorado Rocky Mountains high altitudes.
      As Ford discovered, the turbos in our altitude work overtime and transmissions typically are required to run in lower gears which drastically lessons fuel economy and causes higher repair & maintenance costs.
      What works “better for fuel economy without performance loss” with less cylinders and “twin turbos” are actually rated in low altitude environments.
      In high altitude, to get best fuel economy and performance the v8 Hemi and 3.0l eco boost diesel simple can’t be replaced by an inline 6 twin turbo gas engine.
      Can’t change the mathematical science of physics.
      Déjà vu to President Carter area which also killed v8 and vehicle manufacturers all jumped on the gas turbo train which crashed in high altitudes.
      Wait, at least 2 to 3 model years before jumping into a new engine, especially in high altitude applications. If don’t, get extended warranty!!
      For now go with the v8 and 3.0l eco boost while they are still offered.

      @@kidsteach938 I see you have no idea how this engine works lol. They compensate for the increases cylinder pressure by utilizing a lower compression ratio, they also open the ring gap up to compensate for increased heat output, valve overlap is also controlled by the vvt system to assist in keeping cylinder pressures in check. The biggest downfall of a turbo charged engine is consumers who treat them like carburetor V8s with low power outputs, yes you can beat the shit out of an not maintain an old engine because it doesn't make any power anyways, modern engines produce gobs and gobs of power by increasing their thermal efficiency and providing more (literal) bang for your buck, but they do so at an unseen cost of maintenance and care, use a high quality synthetic and allow your turbos time to cool at the end of use and you have a motor that will last generations. If you treat it like crap it'll end up like crap. If you're not capable of maintaining a motor like this then yes the market of used hemis with eventual camshaft failures will be perfect for you!

    • @kidsteach938
      @kidsteach938 Před rokem +2

      @@corinhoskins2011 The hemis fail because of the spec for low viscosity oil, for emission reasons. If the new miracle engine uses powdered metal rods, hypereutetic pistons and maybe only four head bolts per cylinder, then I would keep my fingers crossed.
      Yes, I understand how supercharged or turbocharged engines increase power output, especially for lower displacement engines. However, this comes at a price...just ask the owners of the 6.0 or 6.4 powerstroke diesel engine. Complicated variable vane turbo technology, dual ((sequential) turbos, heads with four valves per cylinder but only four head bolts to seal it, complicated engine controls and emission systems...so many weak points. Nice video. Didn’t hear this in it so I will mention it. Straight six are great from past experiences. Longer stroke than bore size made them low rpm torque monsters. The unknown here is adding the turbos to this setup. Most of todays vehicles run at 2000 rpm at highway speeds and a little higher than that in direct drive and towing. So it’s going to be interesting to see where the power bands fall with this setup in the 1500 Rams. Throwing them into the 2500/3500 lineup is a big gamble for a first year production run. The 6.4 hemi is pretty stable here for the most part. Diesel owners are another subject that doesn’t fit.

  • @harizon8862
    @harizon8862 Před 2 lety +7

    Here’s what I think (or at least hope) will happen with the new Hurricane (and some other engines):
    -As Ben said, the standard output Hurricane will serve as the replacement for the 5.7 and the high output for the 6.4. This will be the case for most of the lineup; however, I think it is likely that both the standard and high output versions making their way into the Ram 1500 (non-performance versions. The TRX can keep its Hellcat or whatever replaces that). Since Cummins is making a gasoline version of their 6.7 I get the feeling we’re more likely to see that than the high output Hurricane in the Ram HD.
    -Rather than going straight to electrification for the Hellcat, I would hope for a 4.0L Hurricane that puts out more horsepower and torque than the 6.2 but burns less fuel. It would also be nice for Mopar nostalgia.
    -I’m personally hoping that when the 3.0L EcoDiesel gets redesigned, they change it to an I6 as opposed to a V6. If they do this and find ways to improve the tow ratings it could more effectively take on the 3.0L DuraMax in GM’s 1500s. I am hoping that with either this new I6 diesel or the Hurricanes, we could get a Ram 1500 that can tow at least 13,000 pounds to be more competitive with Ford and GM (and I mean a crew cab with 4X4 with that tow rating. A quad cab 4x2 should be even higher).
