  • Making some balance lead for my batteries - it's the hard way but it worked. So glad I now have Batrium BMS installed and I don't have to do this anymore. It was cheap but time consuming that's for sure.

      Sounds like you have an extremely well built balanced pack I'm impressed, i top balance and easily get .3 ish volts different at moderate discharge and much larger at deep discharge. Working on slowly replacing packs and making a more balanced pack. Will take time :)

    If one of your packs is for some reason slightly weaker/lower voltage than others, does power flow into that pack instead of out to the load? I'm trying to do a scaled down version for my garage work shop and have a friend who does computer recycling/resale as a non profit charity and he says he can get me quantities of the weak (no longer usable for laptops) Dell packs but was wanting to know what I should offer him for them (obviously the money goes through his 501-3c charitable) I of course have the proper chargers and equipment for processing the cells and have already done a few that I had around so I am comfortable with that end of the process. Any thoughts would be appreciated. Thanks.

    @MaximusPsychosis Před 8 lety

    so ahh.. how are you monitoring the cells? you got charge/temp controls to each cell? i assume them 18650 don't have current overload/discharge/temp circuits built in?
    and yeah, new here, havn't watch all videos yet, you may have explained it in another video i have yet seen..

    • @HBPowerwall
      @HBPowerwall  Před 8 lety

      +Maximus Psychosis very manually, over under bank voltage Via charge controller temp 0.1 amp average load 0.6 heaviest possible load. Every aspect is in many other vids. Work in progress for sure.

    • @MaximusPsychosis
      @MaximusPsychosis Před 8 lety

      i see, so can you see the cells in the back of the pack potentially going short circuit and thermally running away?
      or does the cells have inbuilt protectors? easy way to tell is if you see a wire bump under the shrink-wrapping and they are usually just under 70mm tall over the unprotected ones of 65mm..
      so yeah, if you're not dropping them under 2.5V and not over charging them to 3.5v (and keeping to the low load of 800mA) you should be safe
      on the other hand, I'm going have no choice but to copy your setup lol nice a neat, easy to maintain, good stuff!

    • @HBPowerwall
      @HBPowerwall  Před 8 lety

      Absolutely could do that but then again ( insert NASA Samsung quotes here) One cell ( single 18650 ) already has dead shorted, if you flick back through my videos and the cell fuse broke and it was a non issue. No cells are protected they are used cells from laptop batteries. Voltages are between 3.4v & 3.9v cycled daily

    • @MaximusPsychosis
      @MaximusPsychosis Před 8 lety

      yeah, fuses are better then nothing (just about to watch your rant on this),
      getting a 4 cell controller will set you back about $6(off the top of my noggin) each (or one with thermal cutout for about $12 each, but they only have 1 thermal resistor to work with) and you have just a small hand full of cells per rack, about 40/rack? so that 10 each x 7 racks by 4 sectors? that's about $1680 for "piece of mind protection" from china though ebay?
      these cells do scare me, but with the cells you've used, nothing's gone catastrophic yet?
      also, needed to replace any yet? I have read they have about 100 to 300 cycles

    • @HBPowerwall
      @HBPowerwall  Před 8 lety +1

      No fire (yet) and there is a line up 1000+ long that have said i'll burn my house down - To those please take a seat and watch the show..
      I currently have 5 spare packs that take less than 5 min to swap out if I see high or low's that I don't like. The voltage gets checked 3-5 times a day. In the first 10 hours of full time use i sat next to it with a thermal camera. Doesn't stop bad things from happening but (nasa /samsung)........
      This thing is still evolving and will continue to grow and improve as funds/knowledge allows.
