Do you wake up in the morning feeling stiff and tight? Maybe you can feel specific areas of tightness and inflexibility? It could be caused by the connective tissue, fascia; and if so, this video is for you.
Fascia is a dense connective tissue found throughout your body. It’s like a three-dimensional web encasing and supporting your muscles, organs, nerves, and blood vessels. It plays a crucial role in maintaining structural integrity, transmitting forces, and providing a pathway for communication between different body parts.
Fascia isn't a single entity, however. There are multiple layers - from superficial fascia found just beneath your skin, to deep fascia surrounding your muscles and bones, and then visceral fascia enveloping your organs. Each type has unique properties and functions, collectively contributing to your body's stability, flexibility, and overall wellbeing.
Fascia differs from muscles and other connective tissues in that it’s very smart with many times more sensory nerve endings, making it almost as sensitive as skin to stretching, strain, heat, and injury. As a result, it’s really important to keep your fascia healthy and mobile.
In this video, I’ll reveal more about fascia and why it’s so important, the types of exercise that will keep it strong and healthy, as well as some fascia-friendly nutrients to add to your diet. Let’s get started!

We lubricate fascia when we exercise. If we don't move the fascia dries out creating adhesions . Movement is medicine and motion is lotion folks. Keep moving
👍
Love that, mate. Well said
Well said. We are made to move.
What about getting enough fluids? If a person is always borderline dehydrated, would that not speed up fascia drying?
@@chickadeeacres3864ofc it will
I'm a physical therapist. We deal with this issue every day. Your explanation was excellent. Thank you.
What exactly is the issue that you deal with? I’m very confused
@@olafcreed4726all the issues that fascia causes.... ie pain, limited mobility, plantar fasciitis, IT band injuries... how is that confusing? 😂
2 years into yoga and all my chronic pain is gone. Plantar fasciitis, PMDD, hyperlordosis were not simply bad luck, they were consequences from inactivity. I'm so grateful and relieved that I was able to turn it all around forever, for free, without drugs ❤
That's amazing progress! Thank you for sharing.

I find this FasciaNating, thanks so much!❤🎉
Only the fact-ias.
All this fascia talk seems fascist to the muscles and tendons
Well done😂
I love how he just keeps pulling out random stuff 😂 great explanation!
Luke, I am your fascia
😂
😂😂😂😂😂
🤣🤣 thank you, I needed that laugh!
00:00 🧠 Fascia is a connective tissue that wraps around and through muscles, giving them shape and form.
01:51 💡 Fascia is different from muscles but is interconnected with them and has numerous sensory nerves.
03:07 🍊 Fascia holds everything in your body together, like the pith in an orange, and has a wavy fiber pattern for elasticity.
04:51 🤸♀ You can't stretch fascia, but you can remodel and shape it through exercise.
06:10 🧘♂ Fascia cannot be worked on separately from muscles; they function as a single unit.
08:27 🚶♀ To maintain fascial health, work in different planes of motion: sagittal, coronal, and transverse.
09:47 🥦 Proper nutrition, including vitamin C, zinc, copper, sulfur-rich foods, and protein, is essential for fascia health.
11:08 💤 Magnesium and omega-3 supplements can help relax muscles and reduce inflammation, benefiting fascia health.
Understanding and caring for fascia involves recognizing its role in the body and addressing both muscles and fascia together.

👍
This video was fascianating!
Yes! Best one
This is probably the most informational video explaining fascia I've seen and goes right into the facts without wasting a lot of the viewer's time. I think I can finally heal the chronic fascial pain I've had from years of over strength training the same motions/muscles without stretching into other planes.
Great to hear you found the video helpful! Addressing chronic fascial pain is wonderful. Consider a balanced approach with stretching and varied exercises for overall muscle health. Wishing you a successful healing journey!

I have noticed that to combat overall stiffness and aches, magnesium is the most important supplement. I'd dare anyone suffering from stiffness, muscle/fascia aches and joint pains to double their magnesium intake for a while.
First stop all sugar and see how much goes away
The maximum dietary allowance for most adults is around 400 mg ina man or less. Anything above this will strip Calcium from the bone and lead to osteoperosis
@@Thekibo2and most adults rarely get close to their dietary needs for anything thats not sugar, fats, and salt
@@cattleNhayNo, no and no. Your cells need sugar, and if you stop consuming sugar, your body will break down tissue to make sugar.
@@Thekibo2 yup. if I supplement any magnesium, then I get very sick. you need enough, for sure, but you do want to stay away from too much.
I love the way you used objects to represent the body parts!! Clear and effective!
Thank you for your feedback! We appreciate your positive comments.

Can you heal fascia in an umbilical hernia?
I always say that dance is the most complete form of exercise! You work in all planes and increased ROM and you don't lose that whatever Age you are!
Definitely the best explanation ever, I could never understand what was crunching in my back if it was only fascia, now I know it's too tight and dehydrated.
Please read "The Longevity Paradox How to Die Young at a Ripe Old Age" by Gundry, physician, cardiologist and researcher. Also "Why We Sleep" by Walker. Essentially aerobic exercise, diet-microbiome and healthy sleep are the foundations of health. Thanks for the explanation on fascia. Extremely helpful.
Always clear, very easy to understand! Love your videos!
Fantastic explanation of fascia, muscles, and how they relate. I really appreciate your mentioning food/nutrition as well, since it wasn't something I considered. Thank you!
Thanks Connie!
@@YOGABODY.Officialthere is no list of foods and supplements in the description as promised the video
Thank you Lucas for this amazing video. Love all your programs. They have helped me with my injuries & fibromyalgia. Barb M.
I have connective tissue disorder and this past year I corrected some cellular deficiencies and took amino acid supplement as I was highly deficient despite adequate protein in my diet. Deficiencies came from severe chronic illness so it took a while to correct but since adding the amino acids my joints are SO much more stable and my facia pain so much better too!
How did you find out your deficiencies?
❤❤❤ Thank you! I have often wondered about fascia. This was so helpful.
Nice reminder how to live better life. Thank you Lucas!
Thanks so much for this extraordinary explanation and guidelines. Super helpful!!!!😁❤️

I did a year's course in massage - 30 years ago - good course but NO mention of fascia at all. Focus on the myo- and energy, but not one word even in anatomy classes, about fascia. Your video has filled in that huge hole, and has been a great motivator for me to get moving. I'm rising 66 and clunky, seizing up physically and mentally. Thank you!
Amazingly, most fascia research is in the last 20 years...
Thanks for this excellent summary Zelenski!
Outstanding delivery and information tailoring.

The best video I’ve seen on fascia
Phenomenal educational skills👏
I learned this in 2004 in massage school. There's a technique call MIT Myofascial Induction Technique. ALSO where all of our traumas/emotions are stored! MiT life changing- when working on the body- all the trapped trauma/emotions WILL arise to be dealt with. Mind/Body connection IS real.
Sounds great, Janet! Hopefully others can experience it too.

Amazing video and such a perfect, clear and clever way to explain things of our body as always 😊 after 13 years of chronic pain I'm finally getting better with great suggestions like yours and keep training, yoga and stretching every day is indeed essential 🙏 and this summer also studied a bit of nutrition and definitely super important what we eat and nice protein fiber dinner before bed 😋 you mentioned some food that could help but couldn't find it in the description, what would you recommend for fascia? And for myself I discovered the importance of tyramine too that nobody talks about and might be good considering 🙈 thanks! 🙏
This is terrific, ty!!
A very informative video. I struggle with Facia problems in the lower back.
Your excellent presentation is the kind of educational content that is paid for! Thankyou very much for your generosity in sharing your time, experience and knowledge. You made it very easy for a beginner to understand, which is a valuable skill. I want to learn more about fascia now 🤩🙏

Weel done! Clear and concise. Healthy suggestions for all ages. What do you think about shaker platforms and fascial health?
Thank you soo much i am a cyclist and have dealt with IT Band and after watching your video it makes a whole lot of sense that it could had been Fascia related and yes it happened when i was training very hard and doing all the stretches but lacking all the vitamins/food source that the fascia needed. And also the point of adding in lateral movements makes sense as well. Again thank you soo much
We're happy the video helped you understand your IT Band pain.

Very very interesting….thanks😊 for
I’ve never seen anyone else talk about this! So my lupus/connective tissue disease is more or less a fascia / ligament disease. This makes so much more sense! And with knowledge comes power. Thank you so much for helping me to understand this. Can you go explain this to my rheumatologist so he will understand! 🤣
