Would NAD+ supplements be better option ??
You have to take TMG with NAD supplements like NMN.@@JLaDrew
Hey Thomas, What is the best ratio of TMG to NMN? For example, is 1g TMG to 1g NMN (1:1) sufficient, or does it require different ratios?
Thanks for explaining and simplifying the info. Much appreciated.
My neighbor is always methylating... he has SO much energy and stays up for DAYS. i think he is doing grams of TMG.... 😂😂😂
You sure hes not meth(amphetamine)yl 14:15 ating? Staying up for days is troubling

Getting some TMG now. Thanks for your hard work.
I’ve stopped eating real food and just down two handfuls of supplements twice daily
Ok
I'm on that path 😂
I’ve lived like this for over 2 decades. Got over food, and just supplement to have nutritional support. One meal a day (likely late lunch/early dinner).
You sup on supplements?
😂😂😂
Thanks for the info! Always enjoy your videos.
Awesome as always, I send so many people to your channel!
Thanks Thomas....you are awesome and just listening to you I feel great!
Great Info...
Thanks Brother! Gotta order some today!

Thomas I‘am on the same boat like you to improve my gut health this year. Hope you find some good new research and proof about that which will help us to get a healthier gut.
Just an anecdote - been on blood pressure med for about a decade. Started taking TMG and a multivitamin with methylated forms of several of them about 2 months ago.
I have had to cut my BP med in half because I checked my BP after feeling very sluggish and it was 110/69 when it’s typically 135/85 while on meds. Have cut it in half for 4 days and it’s still perfect so it’s possible I get off the med completely in the near future. It’s the real deal for the right people.
Great topic, Tom!
Dude it's not he tmg... It's the methylated B12, 6 that fixed your bp. Or more specifically your vascular system... (I had the same experience with my BP, all my issues have disappeared after the B12, and B6 supplimention.
@@synthclub yeah could be, although I don’t think you can actually know that - they are sort of synergistic in that you’re adding the ability to methylate so it’s possible the TMG would’ve had an effect on its own but who knows.
There are studies clearly showing TMG lowering homocysteine which can have a lowering effect on the BP so it’s possible either one alone can have this effect and both together are better. I haven’t seen any studies on methylated B vitamins, but have done the research on TMG and it clearly has the potential, alone, to lower BP. Either way, I’m happy with it.
You might wanna get your b12 levels checked , even if your blood pressure is lower, you could still have issues from low b12 levels, definitely worth the test!!!
@@andywilson8698 yeah I work way too much and always put it off - I actually run a business and employ an MD that would run them for me but just need to find the time and do it.
Besides the B vitamins have you taken magnesium and cut out sugar
Great information, thank you
Good info, GREAT shirt!
Thanks Tom, will have to listen to this podcast a few times ….so packed with information.
Thanks so much !! Luv the science ❤️🇨🇦
One of your better detail break downs of something I will de trying for sure 👍 and thanks

Looking very lean Tom. Much appreciative for the info here!
Thorne’s Niacell is well-formulated because it already includes TMG with the NR.
I previously wondered why, and you’ve explained it perfectly here!
Isn’t Thorne’s Niacell lacking in TMG? 85mg is low isn’t it?
@@j.a.6866I thought it looked low too, but I assume they know what they’re doing with the formulation. They’ve probably determined that that amount is sufficient for additional methylation.
YThorne isn't likely to use a less than optimal dose just to save a couple of cents per oill
@@fondrees so you’re saying that the 85mg in their formulation is likely sufficient?
Either of you ever tried it?
need like 6,000mg TMG a day
very informative; thank you a lot. I'm currently taking TMG with B3 niacin instead of NMN. Additionally, I've started taking taurine.
Betaine Anhydrous not HCL. Thomas says at the end 2.5-10 grams a day. Advice I’ve seen from years ago was at least 1.25-1.5g pre AND post workout if gains is the only reason you’re gonna take it
I would'nt expect you to wear that shirt, but i love it. Great video as well.
Kinda shocked me when the video started 😅
This information is great so thanks Thomas! Also, I thought zonulin increases leaky gut..
I use TMG 6 grams a day. 4 in the morning. 2 mid day. gives me lots of energy. I loose weight and train more. It also is used for fixing fatty liver. to me its like a light switch turned on when I take it. Also lowers blood pressure AND lowers cortisol.

Thomas, this vid was right in time!
Thanks Thomas - good information. I take 2 grms of TMG along with 2 grms of NMM
This is exactly what is happening to me!! gaining muscle (mostly in quads) but weight stayed the same. Now I know why.
what time in a day you take and how much?
@@irmantasvaitkauskas6769 1g in the morning on an empty stomach, another 1g around 3pm, then another in evening. I also take Taurine, and other supplements.

Great video!
Started supplementing for 2 weeks now. With creatine and hmb looking to get some big gains next couple of months.
I like that shirt. I searched it and gather it doesn't really refer to anything specific, but it looks reminiscent of a band's merch shirt to me. I'd have guessed an old psychobilly band or something like that. That sort of thing was retro about 40 years ago, so I suppose that would make your shirt 'double retro'.
Polish shredded beats with horseradish is delicious. Highly recommend with mashed potatoes, meatballs with gravy and in general as a side
Thank you for the video. Please do not be afraid of the Sun. 🌕
Okay, but TMG has methyl groups restored by choline or lecithin (which has 3 such), a cheap supplement, or alpha-GPC if you want methyl groups without the attached fatty acids. Plus, the choline doubled as a vital cell membrane component which is important for brain health.
So what is a good supplement to get that contains all of this? I feel like I spend more time researching trying to figure out where and what I need to get to no avail.. just wish you would recommend a product.
Life Extension makes one, but the dose is only half a gram. NOW brand has a 1-gram supplement that recently came out. NOW brand is available through the Fruitful Yield stores-probably elsewhere but you’d have to google it. I just bought a couple of bottles of the NOW brand.
Hi Thomas, Thank You for Your work and your Videos!
Could You please do a 2024 complete series about nutrition and how to gain muscle mass (Macros, carbs, keto etc?)
I was an obese person, I'm 40, I lost some weight ( I need to lose more fat), at the same time, I'm struggling to build muscle mass. I integrated carbs slowly to my Diet and I saw some progress in that area.
I have to admit that I have Carbs Phobia Because of my Keto Background (It helped me to lose a lot of weight and I'm grateful geatfull)... :(
Thank You again and keep up the good work Brother!
Planning to try TMG, and just also ordered some Urolithin A, would you add in NMN as well or do Urolithin A & NMN do similar things?? Love your opinion on this.
You also should talk about side effects. For example, this TMG increases methionine, which causes fluid buildup in the brain, as well as higher LDL levels...
That shirt is awesome!
Makes sense. As we get older stem cells increasingly become adipocytes instead of normal proteins.
Part of this is dysfunction in estrogen receptors via the sympathetic nervous system.
Part of it could also be methylation issues.
Good brain u have
Thomas working over time for us.
Love the shirt! 🤙
So I want to take this with the mono creatine I'm currently taking. How would this effect the muscles drawing the water from the creatine? @6:05
I do the beets powder and high quality greens right before workout.
Greens give oxylates
Oxylates ruin the gut
Fantastic video, Thomas has always. Can you take TMG every day or just on a training day. Can it be taken with l-arginine or on its own. How long should you take TMG for.
i just started methylene blue in addition to my nmn....does this have similar benefits?
❤❤great information
I haven't noticed any remarkable change, but then again, I follow just about every workout with shrimp already. My homocysteine is also high, even though I take "homocysteine resist."
Can you mix the powder tmg with other powders like creatine or fiber?
I was taking a sip from my beer just when he said alcohol kills your gains, big time😅 and it's true
I have an MTHFR mutation, I take a methylated b complex. I just started TMG because i have a sneaking suspicion I have other methylation pathway issues. This is fascinating Thomas, i always appreciate the information you share!
5 mins of internet research... and I came to a similar conclusion. I already take methylated-B vitamins, this seems like a no Brainer.
@@MaleusMaleficarumI increased my tmg dose to 4 grams and as long as I feel good I'm going to get up to 6.
If there's a chance it can help me and won't cause harm I am in.
Did you learn about your MTHFR issue through stratagene? Thats how I became aware of mine, I have the worst variation. TMG supplementation is interesting, I know that betaine and choline are a short circuit in the homocysteine cycle, I am always sure to eat plenty of eggs (for the choline) but never considered supplementing. I will give it a try.
@@chadh9457 My doctor tested me about 7 years ago because I was struggling with pain, fatigue and some clear nervous system issues. Turns out B vitamins are critical to the function of the hypothalamus, which regulates the autonomic nervous system.
It's a cheap supplement, TMG AKA, betaine androhydrous and it has few to no side effects. My 85 year old father is starting it as well. He has not been tested but he also takes methylated B vitamins because it's very possible that he has the mutation as well, and these supplements do not cause any harm.
My mother died of "Parkinson's" but it was not diagnosed as such until she was 78 because she had almost no symptoms, just some very mild shaking. I think she had a lifetime of b vitamin deficiency which caused problems that weren't necessarily huge until they were. My poor mom went from functioning pretty well to sever vertigo, dysphasia, dystonia and couldn't get out of bed and death within 6 months. So, I'm very focused on this area of information. I'd definitely give it a go, it's tasteless ( the TMG) I just throw it in water a few times a day. I love it during my workouts, I also take NMN which definitely helped with my energy.
Where what brand is the best kind of tmg
What are your thoughts on methylene blue
Wohoooo! Wheat bran?? I love using it! 😍👌🏻 Creates really nice bulk in my protein cakes and stuff..
Could you share a link to a recipe?
Great video
I love your shirt hhaha. thomas please dont go missing
Bought a 2 lb bag for 28 bucks because of this video. I've only been on it a week. Only things I've noticed so far are intense dreams and more energy during the day. Melatonin does the same thing.
I've been taking 3-4 grams of TMG a day for a month. I definitely have more energy throughout the day, no more after lunch crash, and still able to sleep very well.
I have noticed I am leaner, my muscles look more full, and even after a week on vacation, I came back still looking full, not flat like before when I haven't eaten enough or been sick and no gym(I'm natty, looking flat is a struggle😅). My arms always look very full since taking TMG, and my compression shirts are looser around my waist, and tighter around my chest and arms.
Great. Another reason for me to enjoy whole wheat bread.
Thomas, im looking at supps, whats the diff between betaine hcl and tmg betaine? Are they more or less interchangeable? The hcl one is easy to source, having hard time finding the other one. Thx.
tmg betaine is the one you want , the HCL is for digestion.
Cant tell if this was recorded at 4:30am or after a good cry session. Respect.
Thank you, does MSM help with methylation process??
So, the amount of TMG In food is unaltered by cooking it? I’m not a fan of raw shrimp. I love beets but would be curious as to which has more TMG, shrimp or beets? 2.5 mg a day was all that was given to the mice during the trial, so that’s how much a human could safely consume or is it dependent on the body weight? Thanks for all your work, Thomas.
When they are giving things like 2.5mg it's usually mg/kg bodyweight. So if you weigh 78kg then you would multiply that by 2.5mg and get 195mg
But the studies referenced here said that they were getting 2.5g grams
Homocysteine is strongly associated with autism, i'd be curious to see a study done on pregnant mothers given TMG and pregnant mothers given a placebo and have the mental health outcomes of the children monitored
Interesting idea, Dr. Mengele.

I always called it Beta-EENE. I take Betaine HCL for stomach acid.
Tried some, made me feel great during my workouts and great all day. And then it completely wrecked my sleep at night.
I drink plenty of water everyday, but whenever I fill my water bottle I'd put in small scoops of creatine, TMG, L-citrulline and L-leucine. So it's pretty much like I'm dosing small quantities of these all day long. I've been doing that for the past couple of years, drinking at least 3 liters a day from my water bottle that's been spiked with these compounds and I can really feel the difference. I get tired less easily. I can get by with less sleep on long days. My focus is better. I can do longer evening runs and more intense weight training with very fast recovery times and hardly any muscle and joint soreness. For a guy that's past my mid-40s, this concoction certainly feels like an anti-aging potion to me.
@thomasdelauerofficial Do you make any meal plans? I appreciate all the information and it does seem like a lot. For instance, my goal is to add lean muscle, reduce fat, and increase strength. What resources would provide a meal plan or suggestions to accomplish these goals?

This caused horrible stomach upset after a couple of weeks. It's also used to increase stomach acid which it seemed to do as antacids controlled the pain.
I was paying attention to that shirt more than the study
You gotta respect anyone who has built those biceps!
My wife's seasonal affective disorder improves with tmg--not really sure why. I don't think I got anything out of it when I tried it, though.
It seems to be one of those that some people can get benefits for weird problems.
Thank you, Thomas!! High homocysteine in conjunction with elevated uMMA also indicates a B12 deficiency. Never rely on serum B12 testing. My point: If you lower your homocysteine with TMG, you might be missing the true cause of why it's elevated. Read "Could it be B12" by Sally Pacholok.
I take DMG instead of TMG. Less methylation, but less side effects like anxiety and stomach issues. I do have an active ulcer to deal with.
Where can I get that shirt?
Did you see in the comments where this guy said he started taking TMG and he was able to go off his blood pressure medicine. It's also supposed to help with gut issues. Very interesting I'm going to order some.
If your worried about BP, try Nattokinase. lowered mine so I suggested it to a lady
friend with high blood pressure. Meds were not working, Nattokinase did.
Excellent material & very helpful; Quick clarification question for you: I've always been taught that DNA methylation is associated with silencing of gene expression & that when methyl groups are present, that gene is turned off or silenced & no protein is produced from that gene. Can you clarify or help to understand how to think of "methylation as a switch that turns on certain gene functions, etc?" I couldn't find an email address to ask you privately; I stay off social media deliberately; I'm sure I'm missing some important detail, so please help. AJ.
Is there a better time to take TMG? Before a workout? Daily any time? Great info.
Everyone reacts differently. TMG can cause insomnia so best to start low and take in the morning, possibly lunch. Yes, usually good pre workout.
Wheat bran is also a great source of betaine/TMG. I have noticeably felt better on days when I ate wheat bran, though I now supplement tmg for convenience.
Gluten.
I like your shirt Thomas, where did you get it?
I found it on Amazon. Buying one myself.
Whats the suggested amount to take daily?
is it ok to take before morning fasted cardio? meaning will it blunt the fat burning effect?
Might want to add in that betaine is a choline metabolite, thus tmg should help preserve choline. Alpha gpc and citi-choline are likely made more available as they won't be converted to betaine.
Also creatine works with methylation as well, thus stacking all three likley magnify the methylation pool.
Finakly, Taurine increases betaine's effetiveness by restoring bhmt activity that downregulates as you increase betaine supplementation.
Help me out here are you saying that TGM supplementation down regulates bhmt and that Taurine is a way to "buffer" this effect?
The ammount of lay person information on BHMT mutations and therapies feels very limted to me.
Look up taurine restore bhmt activity. A lot of things down regulate via feedback. If more homocysteine goes down the transulfuration pathway, then we could see increased taurine being formed. It makes sense to balance, thus once taurine hits a high enough threshold, bhmt would turn up activity to restore methione recycleing via betaine(tmg) and folate. Im not positive this is why, but the feedback from taurine would make sense.
The down side is that this could mean less glutathione because homocysteine wont be taken down the transulfuration pathway.
@@alexzbiciak I think a simpler way of saying it is that Taurine supplementation inhibits homocysteine conversion to cysteine... thus creating an excess in homocysteine which will /necessarily/ lead to higher activation of BHMT and MTR... It is the excess of homocysteine which creates the increase in activity and personally I don't really want to increase my homocysteine levels just to activate higher conversion from homocysteine, that doesn't make sense to me. If people want to increase taurine and glutathione and conversion of homocysteine to methionine then I would recommend focussing on consuming cofactors for enzymes along those pathways and not to supplement end products like taurine, but that is just my opinion.
Not sure if you will see this since its been awhile, but It tried this for a few weeks and decided to stop after two blood test. I had been taking this for 2 weeks prior to a blood test and my AST and ALT levels were off the charts, talking 4-5x higher than the max range. To be fair I had taken it 2-3 hrs before the blood test, but still surprising results. My doctor was shocked and wanted a re-test. 2nd time around I didn't take TMG prior to blood test and was well within the normal range. I quit it completely after.
Does TMG need to be taken with a B-Complex vitamin? And do you only take it before a workout, or everyday?
What is the expected benefits of taking TMG vs. pure Glycine ??
Like he said the TMG has three methyl groups attached to the amino. The methionine cycle's main feature is the recycling of homocysteine back into SAMe. Since SAMe is the primary methyl donor in numerous biochemical processes in the body, it is critically important that the methionine cycle functions properly. If the methionine cycle is dysfunctional, methylation
becomes inhibited and homocysteine levels may increase.
that T-shirt is hilarious bro, i want one.
Quinoa is very high in Betaine and Folate more than beets or wheat germ. And it's a whole protein with all essential amino acids. eat it instead of rice. cook it and refrigerate it first to convert some of the starch to resistant starches for a lower glycemic effect and to feed the gut microbiome.
Do you need to keep the blurry white stuff thats on the quinoa after its cooked for it to be resistant starch? I always remove it from Rice and pasta after cooking because it looks not pretty.
@@MeesterJalways best to rinse it off
Fool the price of quinoy is double of rice
@wholecosmos thanks m8! I will do just that and add it to the regimen in the way you've advised. Cheers!
The problem is that quinoa can vary in the amount of betaine by 10 fold. The range is from 0.061g to 0.63g for 100g dryweight of quinoa. According to the same source, a 100g of Beetroot (canned) varies from 0.26g to 0.33g. While a 100g of Wheat Bran has an amount ranging from 0.23g to 0.72g. A 100g of amaranth varies widely like quinoa, from 0.065g to 0.74g.
Would basic Glycine work too?
TMG lowers blood pressure.
Many people will need to have their prescribing physician adjust their medication(s). Some have to come off heart medications.
If your body is happy with a lower blood pressure this is good. Your arteries are stronger ( they are muscles in your arteries) & healthier. This can be seen in your skeletal muscle growth.
