  • After our passage from Bermuda, s/v Cloudy Bay (Hallberg-Rassy 54) returns to Antigua where we left off in May. While Cloudy Bay was docked in Jolly Harbour we visited the Jacquie O’s and Rum Bus beach venues, Falmouth Harbour, and English Harbour where the Charter Yachts Show was in full swing. We also spent a day visiting the main town of St.John’s.
    Cloudy Bay was hauled out for 8 days (which will be a separate video), and after getting back in the water we got into the cruising mode and sailed north along the bays on the west coast, had a day anchored off Long Island (Jumby Bay), and the in Dickenson Bay for Christmas Day. 6-10 & 23-27 Dec 2018
    We have previously sailed to Antigua & Barbuda in May 2018, please see separate videos:

    Sorry everybody for the slight disruption on posting this video. We put it up yesterday but it only posted at 360p so we pulled it and reposted. It is now available at full 4k resolution .... if you have good enough internet connection. Enjoy.
    Happy New Year!

    • @SailCloudyBay
      @SailCloudyBay  Před 5 lety

      Paul, to be honest very few of the islands are overrun with tourists. But of all of them, Antigua probably has the most. But most remain in their all inclusive hotels. And the others arrive by cruise liner by the thousand, but then leave after just a few hours. So when driving around you are correct, you really dont see many tourists

Does a great job of narrating some of the passage making details , speed, instruments etc. while you are busy riding the bow anchor and getting some of those great shots of this awesome HR54 pounding smoothly and quickly through the seas..that sail to Antigua on previous episode was some of the best!

    • @SailCloudyBay
      @SailCloudyBay  Před 5 lety +3

      We have filmed catching fish in previous videos. But its not to everyones taste to see. In these leeward islands we have to be careful with reef fish from the top of the food chain. Many are toxic. Also, the Sargasso weed runs down the line and fowls the lure about every 5 minutes! But now that we are inter-island sailing again and have the fridges working correctly we will be starting to get that hook in again. There is nothing quite like a good Mahi Mahi on the BBQ!

      We are using a GoPro6 with lots of stick-on fluffies around the microphones to stop wind noise. Occasionally we put it on gimbal, but the software stabilization within the camera itself is pretty good in the GP6.

    Are you working on the teak tow-rail.? Front starboard side looks different..

    • @SailCloudyBay
      @SailCloudyBay  Před 5 lety +1

      Following an event where another yachts dragged its anchor and collided with us in New England, we had to strip that bow section of the teak gunwale to repair it. Unfortunately the product we used to "varnish" the gunwales is not easy to repair (Ceolan) so in Antigua we stripped the entire gunwale. Then we had a choice to revarnish or leave natural teak as it had been when we purchased the boat. The Antigua weather (often raining) meant that realisitically it was going to take a long time to get the necessary 8-10 coats of varnish on. And, in this climate of intense UV, any varnish on the boat would need non stop attention, likely needing re-coating 2-3 times a year to keep it looking Bristol. So right now it is natural teak and gradually going to that silver colour. Soon it will all be the same colour all over. Each day we look at it, we miss that varnished look. But we have to be practical, otherwise we will be doing more maintenance than cruising.
