- Top tier-ers in the chat today. Definitely gonna be awhile before I play this again, lol!
We all have our preferred tiers or BR's we like to play. For example, mine is around 4.0. That being said, if you like top tier the most, I envy you. There's a few glaring issues regarding the gameplay in rank 8 that prevents me from enjoying it nearly as much as I enjoy lower ranks. In this video, I go over these issues. Perhaps you're a newer player without top tier vehicles yet, or perhaps you just need some perspective- either way, this video should help you out. Try not to stress the grind too much :)
Of course, this video is shot from my perspective, includes my opinions, blah blah blah. Been awhile since I've had to include that disclaimer lol! Oh, and, this video concerns air rb only- never played top tier ground rb. If I had to assume, I'd say top tier ground rb is probably less fun than lower BR's, too. Boom, you're welcome.

I have top tier in multiple nations, planes tanks and helis, and I mostly play around 6.7 to 7.7 in nations that are "inefficient" for me to play. Top tier feels like the apex and best part of the game when you don't have it, and when you have finished a tech tree, you want to go back to the lineups that you enjoyed the most when you were in the thick of the grind, in my experience.
True-,there's an element of "I want what I don't have" to it, I think. I'm trying to help people avoid that 😂

you should try the severe damage mechanic test server, it's a taste of a top tier i find ideal (6v6 or 10v10)

As someone who just starts to enter top tier(USA F100, getting smashed constantly) : it would be so much more fun if there would be a divide in Playstyle/Gamevariation, like:
Only dogfight loadout(2 IR per Person+Guns)
Only IR Missiles
All allowed Loadout
Only Aim 9b/R3
Only Nato Jets vs Soviet Jets (Premiums go to their Country of Origin- German Mig29 ->Soviet)
With this all against all Mode, i feel like it denies using the Specialtys every Faction/Side has to its advantage, and everyone just goes furball to get at least that one kill
I think you've got some good ideas there. And you're right, people do rush to the furball immediately. My advice to you in the f100 would be to stay fast, try not to turn, don't commit to anything too hard, and go for optimal targets :) good luck captain!
Sadly community-organized events are the only way to have such experiences in WT. They’re honestly much more fun than “normal” battles.
as someone who played 9.0 way back with 2 nations, and kept up with top tier along the BRs, you are right. top tier is mostly about positionning skill. knowing how to aim and dogfight is usually the decisive factor when the match is almost over. aim9M is absolute pain to fight against. r73 well, its easy to counter really. just turn into the enemy jet before it fires an r73. they are only lethal below 2km, from the rear and side aspects. 9M is lethal if you dont have flares and if you dont see it as it was fired.
i can tell you, 10.3 and 10.7 are the most fun BR now, especially in capable jets. you might face PD radars in uptiers. there are no IRCCM missiles, most jets have rear aspect missiles, most have flares.

because you can almost always counter what the enemy throws at you, even if you made a mistake.
I've been saying it for months, 10.0/.3 are the best jet BRs. You still have missiles but they're not overwhelming. I've had 6 coming at me at once, thought I was going to die and then easily dodged them all. At 12/.3 you die before you see or are aware of people.
Top tier should have some different map layouts. Maybe people can start from different bases and there are multiple smaller groups of jets heading into battle instead of everyone all headed in as one large group. Top tier can be fun but something has to change, maybe more objective focus instead of rush to take everyone out? Idk. Love the game, bored of the flashy jets
Honestly, I feel like the 10.7 matchmaker with the kfir feels a lot more fun. Only got 200hrs, half on them on the canard, but Ive learned how to fight with it pretty decently and enjoy it a lot more than absolute top tier. Kinda feel like radar missiles, (which you can still experience in BR10.7), is what ruins shit the most in top tier for me. I already feel stressed out with random 9G's/9L's cause they always sneak up on me when I least expect it, but 9M's and 7M's throw me off so much that it made me hate 12.7 all together. 9L's is just cutting AB off for longer while flaring, but 9M's are usually impossible to dodge.
Less players would help, but I dunno. I already have a hard time checking missiles 24/7 in 10.7, 12.7 just amplifies that and makes it less fun. Especially with missile spam.
Yeah, in my opinion, the total number itself of radar missiles, specifically the aim 7f/r27 and onwards, are what make you & everyone else in the lobby keep it low to the ground. I think it would be way easier to be able to climb and engage in BVR fights with something like an 8v8, or maybe 10v10 matchmaker.
I had the most fun in F5e and Mig 23ml. As long as I can reliably dodge missiles I'm having fun. But as soon as I got to the aim-9m/r73 tier it became very frustrating.

As someone who has played without spending a single $ since I started about 1.25 years ago, I've found I absolutely love playing 10.3-11.3 Air sim after spading the F16C, F15, and F14B. I've only reached top tier in US, but I find Air Sim to be a more enjoyable, manageable, and fulfilling experience. F5E, F4J, and A10 are such fun vehicles to play in Sim, although there's quite a learning curve. I play the game now for a more drop in, drop out style game play for when I want a casual Air to air with added air to ground gameplay loop. Top tier Air RB is hellish, unmanageable, and overall frustrating.
One thing I forgot to mention is the fact of being able to respawn in an ongoing conflict without having to requeue is a massive plus if you just want to play the game, and aren't focused on the grind/economy.

Man this is so true 😭 I got to the su 27 yesterday and it took me 75 maches to just get all the missials not even the prefomence upgrades. Me and my friend got to top tier and he has kinda just stopped playing after spending 200 dollars on premium vehicles to grind

Same boat, I thought that the sun would be a beast, and it is, but top tier is miserable, everyone dies, everyone has extremely effective missiles so in the end it's just praying you get your kill before you get killed
@@mrgummygod the only source of fun I get is when I do stupid maneuver at the start of a Mach. Or when I play with friends, but like I said the main friend that I play the game with now just doesn’t enjoy the game so I’m alone.
not gonna lie kind of a skill issue, I'm at 88 matches and I'm on my last module to spade the jet. It was a super easy grind for me.
I found the way to enjoy top tier - it’s SB battles, most of lobbies are 2v2-6v6, skill means much more than in RB, it requires to know how the radar and RWR work, how to maintain energy, how to use your fuel more efficiently etc even BVR isn’t dead on some maps like Afghan in this game mode so it is really fun(the only bad thing is that there’s pretty much no real competition cause US is always against USSR and China which makes it way too easy to play on the US side and nearly impossible on the Soviet/China side(not really but it requires like 10x more skill to be successful on this side cause of sh*tty avionics like RWR that doesn’t even tell the exact direction to threats and the worst FMs over all top tier planes so it can be extremely difficult for new sim players to play on this side and that’s actually funny cause in RB situation is opposite)
12.0 f16 is so fun r now! I counted and 8/9 of the matches i players were 11.3 with only another f16 and sometimes 14
I'll admit, there are some twinkles of light amidst the darkness. However, you're still relying on getting a downtier, which isn't always gonna happen ahahaha. On a different note, there's gotta be some hidden system in the matchmaker that makes certain stuff more likely to get uptiered/downtiered. Unless I'm just being dumb and it's already known about. D:
imo the sweet spot is a bit above the early jets, somewhere around Sabres and Mig-15s where you get to play jets but you still use the basics you learnt from props, just a bit more advanced
Agreed, I'm becoming somewhat of a 7.0-9.0 enjoyer myself recently, since top tier aint it anymore lmao
I think my all time favourite missile jet is the MiG-21S at 9.7, you get some resemblance of combat at altitude without having to worry about the higher end SARH missiles and it can dogfight quite well. Tho I'd say you hit the nail on the head with higher brs being more and more about positioning especially with this one being a jet with no flares and often facing stuff with 9Ls.
My personal all-time favourite jet is the british Sea Hawk, it's hard for me to say why but it just works for me, and the dogfights in early jets are incredibly fun and engaging.

Took me 3 years to grind to top tier.....as an average player its definetly not fun the missiles are cancer and even just the radars beeping and squawking 100% of the time gets pretty annoying....stock planes are junk and take forever to spade too thats a great point

I’m going to be honest, the only reason I play top tier is because I like the modern jets.

The main issue i have is balancing, the F4E or F4S goes up against aim9m meanwhile they have aim9h or aim9j. You get annoyed and play 10.0-11.0 and you're up against all aspect missiles while you're in a plane without flares...
16v16 is ok on like props, early jets and maybe mid jets but top tier jets is a total clusterfck and i think 8v8 is more ideal

Man I agree especially with the burnout, I was enjoying jets and top tier before the air superiority update came out and my win rate in the f8e tanked from a crisp 75% to 66%. I just stopped playing jets and started playing props, had the time of my life but now iam burned out by props, back on jets having alot of fun in the German 12.0 mig 29 basically got a 100 kills in a day lol
finally someone said it... Whenever i comment that top tier sucks and missiles are too powerful, people say skill issue, get better etc... They do not understand that it's not a matter of getting better... It's a matter of top tier being too much to actually be fun... Fox-3 missiles are gonna ruin it even more and people are cheering about getting them while i pray to god we don't get them
😅😅 That said top tier is good for grinding tasks and events since it's so fast paced, they have less queue time, they end fast, you get 1-2 kills, you die, go to the next one... Whereas in lower tiers my focus is to actually win the match and stay alive till the end, top tier is all about getting all the kills i can quickly and that's it... i do not expect to see the end of the match... One moment you are after 1 person, the next moment your whole team is dead and you have 5-6 people on your 6 firing a gajilion missiles lmao xD Can't dodge? Skill issue....

I like flying or driving the vehicles slowly. I don't push them to their limits. I find it quite relaxing. I dont try and get as many kills as humanly possible, i just take it slowly and see what I can do. I still managed to get 7 kills in a match once.
I like to just full send it. Most kills is 9 on top tier and 12 in props.
Man, Back in 2020 I bought the F-86-35 and it was AMAZING, great at grinding and a introduction to jets. I would've suggested it through and through back then but now it's attrocious. It only verses jets with missiles now, before it was maybe 1 or 2 jets with missiles. same with speed. its just outclassed now. Got the A-10, that was a blast. but now that's just as out classed. I Unironically think the A-10s are better at absolute top tier than at their tier because nobody bombs at top tier unlike it's tier where everything has after burners.

If you're burned out and you have some spare sl maybe try sim battles, it introduces some new challenges that you don't see in rb

It really depends on your playstyle tho, i personally despise low tier planes because u have to watch so many things like potential and kenetic energy that it just takes the fun away for me, which is why i prefer top tier a lot more.
I am fairly new to top tier and have therefore only few top tier jets, namely the f16aj and f4adtw. The f16 is nice, the f4 is horrible.
I think alot of players in top tire really just don't know how to defend against Fox 1's and how to flair the 9M/R73. Hell most just kiss the dirt instead of notching and staying high to give their missiles better performance. Alot of people don't know the mar for the Fox 1's or don't set manual radar control so they can shoot longer distance then the ACM mode range 🤦♂️
A lot of skill issues for sure, can definitely agree with you on that hahahaha. Although there are times where it is just impossible to flare, changing how you go about playing the match (to obviously prevent those situations), and that's what I'm referring to in this vid :) Thank you for the comment, brother! o7
I honestly really like missile gameplay, but it being 16v16 with IRCCM makes it too stressful to play. You just get ganked by a random guy almost every match
Long rant:
16 vs 16 is trash regardless of battle rating. Just had a battle on 5.7 - killed 4 planes and already had another 3 on my ass. Ended up with 6 kills but... this had barely effect on the battle.
Another thing - maps & matchmaking. Before cashgrab premium jet era every map was unique, they had different mission objectives, different locations of AI units. That led to different routes for flying. Now all maps turned into looking like it traced from one pattern: all looks same, the only thing that changing is the texture of the ground.
How can I enjoy the game if I have full uptier in 9/10 games?
And don't even try to play anything besides fighters - you are dead on arrival. Plus on jets, fast movers will mop up the bases before your obsolete and overtiered attackers will catch some speed after takeoff. That bases probably won't even have time to respawn because battle ends in 5 minutes and respawn timer is absurdly long.

All true- I think your point about maps is interesting. If we still had reasons for players to take different routes into the match for whatever reason, I think 16 v 16 would be less of an issue. Something I was thinking about was adding another main airfield or two still equidistant from the middle, but far away from the first, as another option. Might help alleviate all the congestion in the middle of the map, but idk 🤷♂️

Realistically we would need at least 15.0 and max uptiers/downtiers To be limited to only being able to face vehicles that are only 0.5 diferent from your br... it would finally eliminate that huge problem thats the full 1.0 uptiers wich would also give gajgin mutch more Balancing room (Also ye the Planes with R60M/9L that are under br 11.7 should be raised to this br no matter the type of plane it is bcs Vietnam era + other flareles jets really dont deserve to face All aspects from 1970

@oup if you wan t you could made a Speardsheet Document or something like that with 15 battleratings and you could show on that wich and how many brs would each Era of the technology need lets say that for All propeler planes we would need min battlerating up to 6.7 from that i could continue with the early jets and so on...

Supersonic gunfighters in the 9.0-10.0 range are the most fun i have in arb, grb in the 7.0-10.0 range are fairly balanced (aside from a few vehicles which are absolutely BULLSHIT -2s38- -bmp2m-), in air sim tt is pretty fucking fun tho engagments are pretty fucking interesting and you have alot alot alot less situational awareness unless you are very good
good video but I don't fully agree with some of the points but I do agree with the economy, irccm and the 16 v 16 however it doesn't take away from my enjoyment of top tier.

@@justmarc2015 I understand about 80% of all the mechanics and whatnot, so for me it isn’t luck. For example, I know how to flare IRCCM missiles from rear aspect, or how to defeat radar missiles without chaff. Remove luck from the situation and turn it into a process.

I agree top tier is not worth the grind or even worse, paying for progress or premium vehicles.
If Gaijin put proper effort into gamemodes and building maps that better suit top tier tanks instead of making it COD style with urban maps which just make the gameplay so stale, not to mention having maps which are too small for tanks that would naturally fire at eachother from 1+km distance...then there is just maps that didn't clearly get playtested since you can snipe from spawn to spawn in 15 seconds off the start of the match. Gaijin just doesn't put effort in the right place for the game to be fun, they just make profit off of noobs who wanna speedrun to their Abrooms or Leopard etc.
Gaijin just don't care about players having fun: I get really much matches where enemy team is full level 100 but my team is full of under level 40 and it's not fun to play USA, Germany and China against Russia, UK, Japan, Italy, France and Sweden in a 4.7 Air RB beeing in the german team

R60 is straightforward enough to burn of its energy in my experience. Try turning, getting the missile to pull lead on you, then turn the other way, get it to lead you, rinse, repeat. Slight adjustments to preserve speed. Try not to get too close to planes that shoot r60’s anyways lol! o7

Maps are horrible and they funnel people to one 1 square kilometer is not.
The energy fighting thing is a thing in top tier too, and how to defend against missiles is also a thing. Its not like you fully ditch all the skills as you progress. Its more like the transform from sub kilometer ranges to 3-4 kilometers.
The economy could be changed for the better still.
My problem is that WT TT air is just... airquake.

You can defeat the missiles quite easily
There are situations where you can't, and that's what I mean. For example, direct rear aspect, forcing you to not let people get too close right behind you. (ayo) D:
the 73 you just need to create a flareflower and turn out of it, the 9m you just spam flares and change direction so it cant see you turning away since it turns off if it sees flares@@nimbosoup

I love 6.3 usa and 7.3-7.7 Russian tanks but top teir burns me out for both even top their Sweden. I honestly want higher brs because playing a 7.7 tank and constant upteirs to 8.7 are annoying. Sane with 6.3 to 7.3. Jumbo vs IS3 not fun

You can, but not reliably. I've never flared an aim9m or r73 from direct behind within 1.5km. Which, goes into what you're saying (and what I talked about in the video) about not putting yourself in a spot to get launched at. Just not really my preferred style of gameplay, compared to dogfighting in props or early jets or something. I've considered suggesting to the snail having two different airfields equidistant from each other in each corner of the map to try and prevent everyone from just heading straight to the middle like you were talking about. I also think making it 8v8 instead of 16v16 would help immensely. Thanks for the comment! o7

@@nimbosoup I personally would love smaller player counts even on the EC maps...but then a four man squad would be an auto win and people would start complaining about that (not to mention players I believe asked for larger matches in the past lol), it never ends. People said that top tier tanks would never happen or would kill the game...well, not really, I've played since before 2013 and player counts have never been this high ever!
