    I always though that Ozpin lost against Cinder because of his old age and she easily overpower him with a fire blast. Ozpin may be powerful, but his vessel is still very HUMAN. And like human, it's mortal, it can be hurt, can bleed and age.
    However, now you bring this topic about Ozpin's reincarnation cycle, this bring a new light to the fight on Volume 3 finale. Basically Ozpin didn't really loss the battle, he allowed himself to be defeated and so, allow his soul to move to another host more quickly than the usual time-span for the next reincarnation. Remember back on Volume 6, Chapter 4, when Watts was shocked about the news about Ozpin's return and as well Salem's fury. When he said "So soon?!", that what brough it up.

    Ozpin’s weapon caught my attention almost as soon as I started watching RWBY. The man ran an institution that trains people with shotgun gauntlets, sniper rifle l/scythes, and hammers that double as grenade launchers. In my mind he had to have the most underrated weapon of them all. I never realized that it had a name though. Fitting I think.
    Given what you have brought up here I think we all need to see that fight with Cinder in a new light. If we ever get a flashback to its conclusion I’m willing to bet that Cinder indeed believed that she had killed Ozpin. Perhaps she had Oz on the back foot only for him to use the long memory before death as suggested in this video: to help get himself back in the fight sooner or at least better equipped the next time around. That scepter turned cane is much like Oz himself in that it’s something magical that predates the human civilization and even species present on Remnant and has clearly been updated over time. It would make sense that it would have some cool abilities none but Oz know about.

    Personally, I think it's the same barrier and that it's more magic than aura. This is mostly because of the point made to show Oscar's aura breaking before he fell with no point to show him regaining his aura as he fell, as they have previously done with Jaune in the training room earlier in Volume 7, which might have happened if Long Memory was storing Ozpin's time/aura. I also this it is magic because of the lightning that was shown in the air around and above Oscar after the barrier broke on the ground. This was the same kind/colour of lightning that can be seen within Ozpin's barrier when he fought Cinder. The differences in the actual appearances of the barriers could pretty easily be attributed to the engine and art style changes from Volume 3 to Volume 7. So, yeah, I don't know exactly what the Long Memory did, whether it was a reserve of aura, time, or magic, but personally, I'm more inclined to believe that it somehow jump-started his ability to access Ozma's magic on his own. This could be backed up by him doing it on his own the second time: he purposefully puts the Long Memory away before he creates the barrier the second time, he refers to it as "that power" which sounds more like something said about magic, not Aura, and finally when Oscar says "You saved me" Ozpin corrects him by saying "No, you saved us" implying that Oscar was the one to control and access the power (whether it was magic or aura). Anyway, that's my two cents. I don't even know if this makes any sense. But maybe I'm more inclined to believe that it's magic because that's the power system that we know the least about, currently, and we have so many rules for Aura that are all so confusing... anyway. Great video!

      It can't be a Semblance because Semblances require Aura to be powered. Oscar's Aura was VERY CLEARLY broken seconds before when Ironwood shot him. So it's either Ozpin's aura (which I personally don't believe Oscar can call upon, only Oz when Oz is in control), or it's magic. Or else the Long Memory restored his Aura somehow but that doesn't make sense either because as Pheonix/Night pointed out the barrier was the wrong colour to be Oscar's Aura.

    Interesting theory as usual but I have to say I really do hope that by the end of the series, Oscar remains...well, himself. It just seems too cruel to have this young man that we watch learn and grow with the rest of the cast suddenly just...fade away so to speak. His 'death' wouldn't come as a shock, it wouldn't occur due to something he's done it just would happen with time and like all deaths via time its the saddest one of all. Sure, maybe Oscar wouldn't die in the regular sense but Ozma/Ozpins soul would eventually take the dominant seat in the body, at least thats what it seems to be with the past reincarnations?
    Either way, the fact that Long Memory can store time is interesting in of itself, and the concept of it storing a 'persons' time even more so... but it does beg the question of if the stolen time *has* to come from the person holding the cane. It'd seem broken beyond repair if you could just like, point it at someone and be like 'bam, you're an old man now haha'.

    I don't think ozpin has the ability to keep his and oscar's souls fully separated for longer.
    As for why i said this. At the end vol 7, after oscar landed he said something among the lines.
    This power, these memories.
    (Indicating that the two souls somewhat fused together.)
    Maybe due to the long memory giving oscar some of oz's time? Or because of the amount of time. That oz has been stuck in oscar's head.
    (Despite oz sending him self into the back and locking himself in there. Back at vol 6.)
    And yes, that was a. What oscar really thinks reference.

    That power is pretty strong, so my guess is that he will use it a few more times and then once a villain notices what he had done they will break it or steal it and then Oscar will start to use Ozmas scepter but will have to go and retrieve it wherever it may be. However I also suspect the cane being made with the scepters green rock and that's where the canes power comes from, so if that is the case then I do not believe he will lose the cane permanently but still possible that he'll lose it but that would suck to handicap the worst fighter on the team just as he was getting better.

    Just rewatched the Cinder vs Ozpin fight as a refresher, and noticed that the fight music prominently showcases a leitmotif the fandom has named "Such Arrogance" (due to it never having a lyricized song to name it, and due to a line Cinder says to Ozpin in Heroes and Monsters when it plays. Now that you've brought up Ozpin potentially sacrificing himself in the fight against Cinder, I'm wondering if it's instead Cinder that's the arrogant one, for assuming she killed Ozpin, for assuming everything would go her way (notably not long before Ruby nukes her with the Silver Eyes).
    Or possibly both, Oz for thinking he could keep his secrets and Salem's forces (but especially Cinder) for thinking too little of humanity's hope and faith in each other.

    Or ironwood was part of something darker

    • @channelofthelost5136
      @channelofthelost5136 Před 4 lety +3

      In my opinion, Ironwood at this point found out that the enemy was unkilable. On top of that desaster, Salem is arriving in Atlas, the winter maiden is who knows where, and the city's defenses have been breached. Now most people in charge would have a mental breakdown, but Ironwood is doing everything he can to keep it together. He won't admit that he's afraid, and he absolutely refuses to back down while deep down, he knows that this is a fight he cannot win. But he also said that he was willing to sacrifice anything to defeat Salem, and this includes his "friends", soldiers, and citizens. Oscar was trying to convince Ironwood to save the city of Mantle, but Ironwood was only going to protect the relic. There are two main reasons why Ironwood shot Oscar:
      1) Because Oscar was getting in Ironwood's way of saving Atlas, and himself.
      2) Because Ironwood doesn't want to admit fear, but because he is overtaken by it he is turned into a dictator, ready to sacrifice literally thousands of innocent lives just to buy time for Salem's defeat. In his mind, Oscar was just another reincarnation of Ozpin, but Oz wasn't helping by staying silent. Ironwood knew about Ozpin reincarnating, so Ironwood figured it didn't matter much.
      Besides, imagine being faced with certain doom trying desperately to keep it together, but making all of the wrong choices in the process. Then having a little kid come and tell you that your being a bit aggressive and that you should stay calm and do the right thing. If we're talking about Ironwood, then yeah. It makes perfect sense why he would ease his mind by shooting a child off a cliff.
      And for the record, I don't support this aggressive form of therapy. Ironwood better have a solid redemption arc ahead, or I will never forgive him.😤😐😐😐😒😒

    I have to wonder how much information on Ozpin is contained in the book The Man With Two Souls. Blake refers to this book in Volume 1, mentioning that each soul is vying for control over the body. Right now, Oscar and Ozpin are in something of a symbiotic relationship, but time will tell of Ozpin will start to take more control or will be able to finally rest and Oscar becomes his own person again, or whether there is a way to seperate the two into different bodies?

It's clear to me oscar doesn't want to be taken over by Ozpin's soul thus allowing his spirit full control like he had in his previous lives.

    I think the difference between the barriers made in Volume 7 and Volume 3 is more of just how much Aura was put into it. Which probably means the V3 one was enhanced by magic, but I think they were the same principle, just executed slightly different. Which may be because of the fact that their souls haven't merged yet, so Oscar can't use all of Ozma's power at once. But also, he wouldn't need a barrier of the same scale as the one Ozpin made in V3.
    So basically, I agree with you. Lol.

  • @thinkfighttalk2403
    @thinkfighttalk2403 Před 4 lety

    You know this sorta relates to the theory as to what Oscar's semblance, and how it will affect Ozpin and "The Long Memory". As we know Soul = semblance & aura so we sorta gotta speculate the Oscar would have two auras and two semblances but that's simple stuff. What a semblance can be is...vague and as we've seen comes as a response to a situation or a core part of a character's personality. Ren's was unlocked to survive while Yang's is a symbol of her rage though who knows maybe semblances can affect a person's personality. Backing up though Oscar's semblance may come in Volume 8 when the situation is dire and no manner of weapon or ordinary Semblance will work so they fall back on either using the relic or using Ozpin's magic. This lead's to Oscar's semblance being Aura-Magic conversion. Simply put Magic would converted into aura and aura can be turned into magic. With this he could fully utilize his cane's full power with less of a limit, make team RWBY maidens given enough time to rest & using Jaune's semblance, etc. This would also pique Salem's interest as she could now also restore her limited magic and she already wants Ozpin off of the board. On this note it could potentially be magic enhancement where it greatly improves spell efficiency i.e. 5 "Mana points" is equal to 100, similar to Jaune's semblance.

Ozpin did not know what he was getting himself into when he began reincarnating so immediately he was stuck with the greatest burden of all and was just trying to keep the relics safe by what he believed were the proper means since he cannot stop her then he has to play defense and keep away till they find a way to win. Also he rarely lied and just kept things from them for the most part which is fair since they're just a bunch of teenagers, again except for Qrow, Qrow was extremely loyal and dedicated to Ozpin so Oz probably should have kept him more informed especially after all these years. Then one of his main lieutenants in his war that he put in charge of training generations of huntsmen to come and guard the item he's been protecting for centuries or millennia betrays him they don't understand why he's so secretive, I mean after that he is more justified in still being secretive to Qrow.

    • @koppasyard
      @koppasyard Před 3 lety

      I don't think so. We just didn't get the chance to see Ozma's reincarnations semblance
      All Ozpin successors are part of the "new mankind", the one that has semblance. Ozma is part of the first, has no semblance but magic. Also, Ozpin and Oscar are different person that have different bodies and so did all of Ozma's incarnations. "Like minded souls" implies different souls that are alike, not the same soul
      Also, Oscar and Ozpin have different aura colors even tho they're green
      Plus, back in v5ch4, they talk about semblance. Ruby compares Oscar to Jaune, since Jaune hadn't a semblance yet. In that conversation Ozpin didn't interrupted a thing to say Oscar couldn't have a semblance
      Oscar: has own aura color + part of new mankind = probably has his own semblance

    • @koppasyard
