What gets me is I realized this is probably the only part of the film you actually get to really "hear" Tim Curry. In all the scenes prior to this his voice is distorted to sound more high-pitched, and in all the scenes after his voice is distorted to sound more monstrous.
Okay, so there are a lot of comments saying how Hexxus and this song are really sexy, and that's true, but I just realized something. Thematically, that's kind of brilliant. Polluting is easy to do. All it takes is thoughtlessness and short-sighted pursuit of pleasure and profit; you get a big, smog-emitting truck because it makes you feel like a big man. You throw that cigarette butt on the ground instead of disposing of it properly because it's easier that way. The forests are cut down for logging and cattle grazing land because it's profitable. The act of polluting is seductive, it's a temptation that we actively have to fight if we want to preserve the environment. This isn't a good movie and I don't know if that was intentional, but the thematic elements of this scene are very strong.

If sexuality was ALL that Hexxus was, Curry still brought that out beautifully in an otherwise 2D character. So often you find a "Bad guy with no motives for being bad just because the director needs a villian", but Curry is so GODDAMN good, plus the facial animation has the perfect amount of deranged narcissism in it, that it gives Hexxus some flesh as a character. What I find cool about this song is that initially, it was much longer and almost completely different, but was so...inappropriately sexual for a kids' film that they had to chop it up to the point that it was unrecognizable. The cool part is, the final product is so well edited that it doesn't even matter that much :)

Technically, Hexxus is an evil nature spirit - I think there's some backstory about how he became so due to finding human pollution, um... intoxicating (I know I read something like that in the novelisation of the movie my school library had years ago, don't remember if anything about his backstory was brought up in the actual film). But yeah, he manifests as a cloud of smoke and SOMEHOW seems to ooze sex appeal. And he's the VILLAIN of this movie, as well as the only truly distinct character in the story (the heroes just can't compare, can they?)
I remember how much I liked this scene as a young child. It was weird for me because at that age I didn't understand the concept of enjoying animation and music and thought it was bad that I liked the villain's song.

I rewound this scene many times on VHS, i loved the part 2:14- 2:40, with the chainsaw and him bursting in laughter, and then him looking directly at us. It was well done to reveal that this villain couldnt be reasoned with actually enjoyed us watching us die from his pollution and mayhem.

Technically, Hexxus is an evil nature spirit - I think there's some backstory about how he became so due to finding human pollution, um... intoxicating (I know I read something like that in the novelisation of the movie my school library had years ago, don't remember if anything about his backstory was brought up in the actual film). But yeah, he manifests as a cloud of smoke and SOMEHOW seems to ooze sex appeal. And he's the VILLAIN of this movie, as well as the only truly distinct character in the story (the heroes just can't compare, can they?)

while this movie sucks, I absolutely love Hexxus's design, this living incarnation of toxicity, it allows for A LOT of creativity, and I'll give the movie this, while the writing is terrible, the animation is amazing.

I rewound this scene many times on VHS, i loved the part 2:14- 2:40, with the chainsaw and him bursting in laughter, and then him looking directly at us. It was well done to reveal that this villain couldnt be reasoned with actually enjoyed us watching us die from his pollution and mayhem.
