I get some folks didn’t like this movie for various reasons, but I honestly think its got great action, simple and honest characters, and some pretty motivating messages
I like that for once in an alien invasion movie, the entire invasion isn’t repelled after a week and everything gets shutdown by destroying the mainframe. Just because they took out the central computer for the drones doesn’t mean the entire alien army is down. The aliens just lost their air support in that area. It still feels like there’s an entire war left at the end of this movie. They just won one battle was all
Who's down for a sequel in the other cities being attacked by the aliens? The Battle for Los Angeles is won but the war rages on and it's gonna make World War 2 look like a schoolyard scuffle. I'm game for Battle: London or even Battle: Moscow.
They should have been in a debriefing before then, to provide their intel to others. What thy should have done, was get medically checked, debrief about what they saw and how to kill it, get the chow, and then they decide if they want to go back (which they will).
hell no, those who know how to defeat something will always lead the way into a charge never hang back to tell the boss how the job is done. Let those idiots figure it out, they have a alien species to kick the crap out of
They were already told that the word is out on how to bring them down. No need for debrief. They went back because they are Marines and work was still to be done.
Now would be a good time to bring in those Warthogs they were talking about earlier in the film. For a friendly Marine, the sound of an A10's gun going "BRRRT" is the most beautiful noise, and sight as it rips the enemy line open.
I like to think that the real reason Nantz went back in at the very end was because, as the squad that had not only survived an entire night in an (effectively) enemy held territory but also discovered the way to beat the alien invaders, Foxtrot Two-November was more than just a decorated military platoon (Are they a platoon? I don't know, I'm not military.): they were a symbol. A living symbol of just how hard marines will fight to defend their home. By rejoining the fight, despite having no food or sleep, they were providing inspiration and a morale boost to all the other marines heading into the fight alongside them. And, if that is the case, even I (someone who's never been closer than 6000 miles to a war zone) know that an army with high morale is ten times as effective as an army with none.
Platoons don’t have a NATO phonetic alphabet designation, it’s just 1st, 2nd, etc. Also, the platoon in the movie ended up being a fireteam/under-sized squad element.
I agree. Usually in movies, we see the military fold like a paper plate under a load of hot gravy. But rarely do we see an actual COMPITENT military. And after all, after 5000 years, humanity knows how to do warfare. As their motto was in the movie; Retreat hell! I would love to see a sequel.
I liked Nantz' character arc in the movie. Ready to hang it up due to guilt and the sort of healing this battle does for him and in the end when he has the perfect chance to leave like he wanted, he doesn't hesitate to go back in

Iafiv Iv Yeah, I'm sure a draft would quickly be implemented. Even though this battle was won, there is still the greater war. Now the aliens are likely to increase defences around their controls ships.
The Aliens were only on the coast, and seemed to stop their advance when they removed any threat within striking distance of their operations. By the end of this movie it was less than 36 hours after initial contact. At least in North America that would mean MANY reserve units and full-on military forces would still be in-route to the action, arriving just as alien air support fell. And speaking of North America, as the area with the most guns on the planet, I wouldn't be surprised if the civilian population could pose a viable threat to the aliens on their own. Showing what it takes to take down an alien I wouldn't be surprised if a 12-gauge shotgun blast would do better than half a dozen hits from a 5.56.
I agree that human losses would likely be severe. However, I think the worst of it is likely over by the end of this movie. This was an enemy we didn't know about, couldn't prepare for, and caught us completely unaware. Those are near perfect storm conditions. Now that we know more about their physiology, weapons, locations, and tactics things wouldn't be quite so bad. Also, the aliens aren't exactly wanting to take losses themselves. For every alien there are likely a 100,000 adult humans. All we have to do is make this planet less than worth their time.
It was shown in the movie that they were here for liquid water, and they were only landing around coastal areas. If anything, this was likely a hit and run type of encounter. They come in, force us back long enough to get all they can handle, and leave. They probably view humans in the same way we view monkeys living in a patch of trees we want to cut down. This wasn't some kind of colonization effort. If you need resources the last thing you want to do is cause or provoke an action that ruins the resource you want to collect.

In way of lead character's, all they'd need are Aaron and Michelle. Anyway.. lol. I had hoped this would've connected District 9. Shoulda coulda woulda...
You can fight much much more effectively with food in your belly and sufficient sleep. In fact, depriving the enemy of sleep by harassing their lines during the night + attacking early in the morning before they've eaten are well established tactics going back many thousands of years.
Plus they seriously need a full debriefing. Command is going to want to know what they went through and they've got useful intel. Still love this movie. A guilty pleasure to be sure but still one of the best Alien invasion flicks out there.
This movie is not about the main force and some cliche non combatants contributed in alien invasion kind of story. Its about a small squad whos contributed a big role in changing the tide of war. This scene reminds me of the ending from Black hawk down, when Hoot goes back into the fight
Hoot was a Hoot.
I really want this movie to have a sequel
Still got goosebumps when I hear "let's take back los angeles"
I love this man MUCH RESPECT MUCH LOVE
This Fox Trot Two November Lets take back Los Angeles. This movie is in my movie collection
That voice name was staff sergeant's
If the first Sonic the Hedgehog movie can get greenlit for a trilogy, then this movie damn well could've gotten the phenomenal sequel it set itself up for. No straight to dvd crap neither.
If I was in there I would've said while smoking a cigarette, " You sick, bastard." Then start reloading too. Lol.
I'm for courage and valor but sleep deprived and hunger and heading out again? that's a recipe for a battlefield disaster
You must have been in the Army then........................
Marines r bad ass staff sgt natz says we already had breakfast simper fi do or die
Nah.. They already had breakfast :)
Not cool. My father was in Nam in the Army as was my father in-law. 11Bravo. I was in the Army, too. Keep that crap to yourself!
Plus they seriously need a full debriefing. Command is going to want to know what they went through and they've got useful intel.
Still love this movie. A guilty pleasure to be sure but still one of the best Alien invasion flicks out there.
People say they hate the movie. I say I liked this ending scene right here.
Honestly this scene Made me tear up a Little. It shows that a Marine don't take a break. They fight until they can't fight No more.
To be fair they probably should have at least had breakfast since they've been up for over 24 hours. Gotta keep up that energy and all.
This documentary proves that the marines can defeat a spacefaring race.
The fight is not over until it is over, that is the norm for the modern warfighter.
I need a sequel...need to know what happened after this!!
This movie is not about the main force and some cliche non combatants contributed in alien invasion kind of story. Its about a small squad whos contributed a big role in changing the tide of war. Like Rogue One, they're not the main cast of the main story yet they being a stronger meaning being a side characters.
there is what leadership is all about.
This is the First Air Cav Division we're on our way
Aliens: "Why do I head boss music?"
Fortunate son
What about second breakfast? :
Beat me to it lol
I don't have breakfast this moring
Thats why they're going back.
This ain't the Shire of Middle Earth LOL
I don't think they know about second breakfast
Okay badass you still need food to function
Special movie, a lot of alien scenarios but this one with Battleship are some of my favorites
The ending (only the ending) was better than most movie today.
