  • Watch Irshad turn the tables on a rabbi who tries to argue that she's not "really" Muslim. Hilarious and, ultimately, civil.

    The mixed comments suggest that 1. Coming from a western point of view they like her
    2. From a Muslim perspective she is changing something to suit her own belief
    Personally my view knowing that she is a lesbian and educated in the west. Would suggest that she does not consider her orientation has taken her out of the folds of Islam. Who funds her to propagate? Would be useful to know.
    She certainly doesn't dress modestly to Islamic standards.
    She isn't trained in Islam by any renowned Islamic scholar if at all.
    So conclusion is it's just her unguided perspective on what she feels is right or wrong.
    She also needs to stop mixing culture with religion. Then making out it's a problem with how men treat women.
    Men in the west treat women as sexual objects. Porn, strip clubs, tv industry etc etc even they run around at the beach with nothing.
    Yet muslim nations wish to uphold there honour by requesting modest dress an there is an issue that men force them!
    The west has it's way, the east has its way! To impose on one another is wrong. Reminds me of the colonial era. Forcing Christianity onto nations.
    We like our women modest. It's purer, it's fast becoming rare and they are decent humans.
    You don't like it you don't have to worry. You got your own women

      In Bosnia muslim women are not forced to wear hijab (headscarf). They cover themselves out their own will. But what they don't do is go around and tell people they are better muslims when they don't wear it (calling themselves thinking reformists). Rather they recognize the fact that hijab is religiously better, more modest, closer to God for women, but they don't have the strength to do it. Her being gay makes this debate so impossible that I can only think of the people of Loot a.s. and will not say anything else.

      I agree with you on modesty dressing of women but why Muhammad inserted his penis on a child???? Why men are allowed to open panties of women up to 4 times?? Isn't a woman a sex object in Islam???

    • @staimaubosni
      @staimaubosni Před 2 lety +2

      @@vanessalozarita4187 1500 years ago marriage was matter of tribal and cultural relations, so throughout christian world also 12 year olds were already getting married. It was much less about sex and more about bearing children and connecting families. Sexual practice would not start until much later. Qur'an says it is better for you to have one wife. 4 wives is allowed because women who have the need for husband but lost theirs in wars, sickness etc, can find such a protector. It was a harsh world back then.

      There you go with the very same takfir as spouted by the Islamic State, many Salafists and Wahabbists. The orthodox Muslim position is that if someone or some groups says they're Muslim(s), then they're Muslim(s). You might not like their kind of Islam, but to say they are not Muslim is to commit the grievous sin of takfir. "God knows best", they say, and only god knows if someone is a Muslim or not and it is not your right to judge them on that. Though you may judge their behaviour, and condemn it if you think it is wrong, you cannot say they're not Muslims.
      That's not my view. I don't think there is any god who "knows best", but I'm telling you what all Muslims except the fringe of takfiri nutters and killers SAY. I'm afraid you are not in very exalted company!

      What if its original language was Aramaic, there being no other written language in Arabia at the time? The development and use of an Arabic script was beginning in and around Kufa, on the banks of the Euphrates, but that's not in Arabia and not where Islam first emerged. The existence of the Qur'an would certainly have accelerated the development of Arabic script and soon the compression of its forms from the original, rather awkward, elongated, Kufic script to make copies in codex form more practical.
      It is by no means certain that the Qur'an was first written in Arabic or that an Arabic script -even the Kufic one- was available to anyone in Arabia at the time.
      As for the content, it certainly appears to have been largely unchanged since Uthman's collection and collation of the various versions (both written and recited) floating around in the mid-650s CE. But what about the previous 20 years or more? Nobody knows. All the fragments of early Qur'ans so far discovered have been of the early post-Uthmanic text. We know nothing of the text / recitation in the period before that.

    Ok. Let me sum up.
    She says she believes the Quran is divinely *inspired* but not divinely authored. Which is a belief I don't have but can respect (on the other hand I consider delusional the traditional belief that the Quran is God's word).
    She rejects Islamic teachings as human constructs.
    She says there are *some* core values in the Quran that are important and helpful to people, again showing she doesn't believe all the Quran.
    What are these values?? Knowing a bit the Quran I'd say it's respecting life (of humans AND animals), not answering evil by evil, striving for knowledge, etc.
    Which I agree are good values.
    But why on earth would someone need religion to have this sort of ethics??
    And why would someone think these values were divinely inspired?? Tons of thinkers BEFORE Muhammad said such things. Would she consider them divinely inspired too? Then what would make the Quran special?
    I think it's great that she tries to free Muslims from a really tight dogma. But if, as it seems to be the case, she believes in universal values but not questionable specifics like for instance drinking alcohol is a sin, a couple having sex before marriage is a sin, homosexuality is a sin... Then what's the point in considering herself a Muslim?? And, well, who is she to say "this part was divinely inspired - that part was not"?
    Words mean something and "Muslim" means believing the Quran is some sort of celestial fax. She does not believe in that. It's a delusion to say she is a Muslim. She doesn't get to reinvent the word. She believes in some stuff related to Islam. She has a "personal religion".
    Wouldn't it make more sense to say the Quran is an ancient text that contains some interesting verses, and to leave it at that? To maybe practice some Muslim rituals simply as a cultural thing or a way to connect to the divine but not as something demanded by God? To just discard all talks of divinely inspired stuff - because people will always disagree on what's divinely inspired or not and nobody can prove if some texts are?
    (Also on a side note I found her condescending in the beginning when she corrected the rabbi on semantics (we/us...).)

  • @grinningchicken

    To be a Muslim in the sense of follower of Muhammad. There are conditions. Belief in only one God and submission to him. Acceptance of the Quran as perfect complete and unchanged. Acceptance of any verified command of Muhammad.
    Belief in God by its self doesn't make you Muslim. Baha'i Ahmadia other groups believe in God and prophet but reject well known commands of the Prophet. Christians and Jew believe in God but reject the Prophet. Irshad rejects very clear commands verified commands of the prophet known as the Sunnah without producing any proof besides her own judgement. This puts her outside of Islam not just main stream Islam. Maybe she would be ahle-Kitab but she isn't a Muslim. Shia Sunni other groups accept in principle Quran and Sunnah they disagree on interpretations. Irshad cherry picks what she likes and rejects what she doesn't. She doesn't seem to know the Quran or Sunnah well. She doesn't seem to understand either the Quran or the Sunnah. She doesn't appear to accept the concept of Gods word being the final judgement.

    • @FaryalWasti
      @FaryalWasti Před 8 lety +2

      I agree that the things you have listed are the core beliefs of a Muslim, but to be considered as one, all you need to put faith in is "La illaha ilallah, Muhammad Rasullulah." And we are not to judge whether she is or not. Only Allah knows what's in her heart. We cannot play God.

    • @grinningchicken
      @grinningchicken Před 8 lety +1

      Faryal Wasti
      Who said we can't judge? Is that in the Quran or in the Hadith? Im not judging what is in her heart. I'm looking at her expressed beliefs. She argues that certain commands of God and the Prophet are wrong and cannot be obeyed. Is that compatible with submission to God and the Prophet?

    • @FaryalWasti
      @FaryalWasti Před 8 lety +1

      There are plenty of Muslims out there who drink, commit zina, are disobedient to their parents, etc. The list can go on. All of these things are condemned by the Prophet PBUH and God. But no one goes to them and says they're not Muslims. I see this as a similar situation. No matter what, we are not to judge. AND yes, Islam is based on not judging others because we do not know their position in Allah's eyes. The prostitute who works night and day to provide for her children could be higher in position than the religious Muslim man who abandons his family. We do not know. And therefore we cannot decide whether she is Muslim or not. That's for God to judge.

    • @grinningchicken
      @grinningchicken Před 8 lety

      Faryal Wasti Commiting sin is one thing. It doesnt take them out of the religion and its against God and the person repents thats between themand God.
      If a person justifys a sin. that is serious because they have made sinning against God small. But it doesnt take them out of the religion.
      If a person denies that God has the right to say what is a sin or not and denies the practices of Muhammad that is a sin and takes them out of the religion.
      God may or may not forgive them thats his business. But Muslims cannot interact with them as a Muslim. (No. That doesn't mean kill them like the Takfiris think)
      But they cannot lead Muslims in prayer. they cannot marry other muslims. They cannot be buried in a Muslim graveyard.
      Thats what I mean that legally she isnt a Muslim even if she doesnt commit any other sin in her life. denying Gods authority is more serious than anyother sin a person could commit. Even a christian or Jew accepts that God is the supreme authority.
