- I picked up these Italian Wall Lizards(Podarcis siculus) from HerpTime while visiting the Schaumburg NARBC show. I wasn't really planning on getting these little lizards but they really caught my eye. I quickly starting researching their natural environment and discovered they are found all over in Sicily and are frequently seen in and around buildings. It was this knowledge that inspired me to build and enclosure that would replicate the brush and tree debris found next to a building.

Spent my childhood catching these guys or something similar in France. Lovely little guys.
That would have been awesome. I was always out stomping through the woods and marshes when I was kid. Even to this day I still catch critters on my adventures. There is only lizard found where I am from, the Five Lined Skink and I have never seen one in the wild sadly.
Awesome! I caught one of these in the Roman forum when I went a few years ago. Just figured out what they were! Beautiful enclosure.
That's awesome. That would be a dream trip for me, would be great to see all the history and culture of that area. I learned recently that there is a population of these in parts of New York.
lol my fire skink and Italian lizard are neighbors in my animal room too! My lizards name is Tzatziki and she is so much fun 😅
Thanks for watching! Do yours both demand attention when you are working with the other one? Any special meaning behind the name? I googled the name and only came up with the Herb Mixture/sauce explanation. Just curious.
Awesome enclosure build my friend!! Great job.
Thanks Andy! It was definitely a fun build.
This is awesome. How long did it take your fire skink to become friendly?
For my Fire Skinks it took longer with the male than the female, but it took at least half a year to really build some trust. The Wall lizards are hit or miss depending on the day but are fairly bold and didn't take as long but still can't really be held.
Absolutely amazing enclosure Pat, looks fantastic 👍🏻 i know youre not holding your breath for them pairing but, the happier they are.....fingers crossed anyway. I use to have brown anoles, would never have thought of doing something like that back then.
Thank you, Sean. It would be really cool if they did pair, I think they are a really under-rated species. The anoles are another neat species. I have a pair of anolis roquet but hardly ever see them. Might of done to good of a job on the enclosure.
@@PatsCreatureCave lol, yeah there is that Pat 😂
That’s so creative! I love it
Lol, I have a spanish wall lizard but she's way shyier than yours, plus, she loves to hang out with the enclosure toad
I was honestly surprised at how bold these lizards were. Sounds like she has a personality like my anoles.
Currently rehabbing one, what diet have you been doing? Not much info out there for diet for these guys ....
Sadly there isn't much info. I base a lot of my care off what I can find about their native habitat and what other Lacerta species eat. I feed mine a variety of gut loaded and dusted insects and an occasional gecko paste though that is hit or miss.
I have an empty 40 gallon breeder and I would like to put a lizard in it is there any that you would suggest?
There are a few that I can think of that would do well in that size. Typically I don't recommend aquariums for reptiles because it can be difficult to get a good temperature gradient but it can be done. I am not sure if you are looking for more of a display species or something that you can handle but here are a few that would work. African Fire Skink, Leopard gecko, Chinese Cave Gecko, Fat Tail gecko, Schneiders skink and I am sure there are many others. The cave gecko would be my choice, they do hide quite a bit and aren't nearly as handleable as a leopard gecko but fairly easy to care for. I would recommend doing research on the care of any the listed species to see which one would be the best fit for you.
There’s invasive Italian wall lizards on that island off of New York
That's crazy, I had no idea that they were found in New York. I will have to google some information on where they are found out there. I appreciate you sharing the info.
@@PatsCreatureCaveya man, I didn’t see this they live all in the English ivy and cobblestone in my yard
