You forgot the most important thing to rivers sound the strap with a lighting bolt
Nathan Boone they should go back to the strat with the lightning strap. Kick in the door, more hardcore, rocking out like itâs 94.
Joe Mars we should also turn off the radio, turn off those stupid singing shows. I know where we need to go.
@@strajee Back to the shack.
Unfortunately sounding like Weezer will not help you settle down with your girl or make up with your dad.
Tonal strap
"the salesman tried to get my attention to sell me a mexican fender"
Hashpipe needs waaay more fuzz! They have a surprisingly heavy guitar tone.
The Don DeLuxe especially on âGetchooâ
They use the boss distortion
@@mcbrodz1663never ever. makes everything thinnerâŠ
The story I've heard was that Say it Ain't So was actually recorded with a P90 les paul
It was
Yup
I have a gibson w a p90 and that's the only way I've been able to get that sound
Actually the cleaning part were with a jaguar
The dirty part were with a les pual special Dc
It was a jag and a DC Paul
Idea: do a sound like Van Halen versus video, where one uses only signature gear, while the other is not allowed to use any signature gear and see which one sounds better.
Really disappointing you used a single coil Strat. You really didnât have to go for form over function, very well couldâve used the SG.
You are missing the point. They are trying to sound like Weezer on a garage band budget.
Richard Dowdy epiphone SG wouldâve been better than the single cool strat
Or a contempory strat
Couldâve used a Charvel
I think basically any HH guitar would've been better than a SSS strat for getting then tone. I'm sure there were other Fender guitars with HH pickups.
No "Only in Dreams" crescendo?! HOW DARE YOU!
nah, sorry, but cuomo's rig was a bit of a miss on this one. the strat is way to thin (SG would have been better choice), the crunch sound does not have enough gain, and you didn't even try to go for some of those amazing blue album/pinkerton lead tones.
Sorry bea but you missed the mark with your tone for Rivers. His sound is a lot thicker and more saturated. He uses a deizel VH4 so I always thought the VH4 pedal in front of say a blackstar amp with a humbucker strat would get close. But I appreciate that you can't always get the gear you want. Matt's sound was pretty close though. Keep up the great work guys because I love these Sound like videos.
Good summary but keep in mind they are on a garage band budget.
On the recording of the blue album he uses a mesa boogie mark1 with a 4x12 cabnet with 4 celestion greenback, he record all the songs with a P90 les paul
I don't get y the choose the gear they do. Even did a sound like dimebag busting the bank Ang grabbed a Marshall tube amp....come on
hash pipe starts playing at 4:20 lmao
Do a Sounds Like J Mascis of Dinosaur Jr
Zaynarai Yes!
samhailes It would probably just be his signature squier and a dsl40c but id be interestined to know what they do for pedals
Zaynarai Probably a wah, a fuzz and maybe a flange?
Yes please!
samhailes Tone Bender, Muff, OD, Flanger, and Delay.
I'VE NEVER CLICKED A VIDEO AS QUICKLY IN ALL MY LIFE
Brooks Adventures and then been disappointed
Same reaction, but would have been nice if they had looked at any pic of the band ever and put humbuckers in the strat.
Jeez weezer isnât even that good
@@matthewkennedy7283 how many hit songs and albums have you released?
We need Joy division!!!
The Dog's Kneecaps any excuse for a Jaguar
Such an under-appreciated band
Hell yes, great suggestion!
Yes
funny enough Shergold did just get a reissue...only problem is it would have to be BY busting the bank.
Great stuff guys. I particularly enjoyed the extended clips.
He might not be the most known guitar player, but would love a sound like robby krieger from the doors
Eru Eru - Try a Gibson / Epiphone SG, A tube amp with REVERB. (Or a reverb pedal) a Vox AC 15 / Vox AC 30 (with tremolo), or a tremolo pedal & a Dunlop Fuzz Face (Jimi Hendrix style) for his "dirty sound".
Eru Eru -* a Vox AC-15 / AC-30 has Reverb & Tremolo & tubes, for a classic "clean sound".
I prefer a Fender blues deluxe tube amp, which has sweet Reverb, but not Tremolo.
Thatâd be awesome, heâs a great player and fairly underrated imo
Man I love you guys but you're really letting me down on this one. I know you said you looked for an hss strat but i'm really surprised you went with the single coils. I'm pretty sure I've never even seen a picture of rivers holding a guitar with single coils. His strat from the 90's had likely some sort of high output dimarzio or duncan in it and weezer is known for using a variety of fuzz pedals to get their sound. At the very least try rolling off some of the high end. If you listen to the guitar on the blue album its actually really thick and dark, this is a bit too harsh for that sound.
Steven Dodge probably just copying the buddy holly video smh
I know this is a year later, but I don't recall any proof of either using fuzz. A ProCo. RAT 2 with cranked gains gets a fuzz sound which Rivers did use. It's also new to me that Rivers used a LPJr with P90s for recording Blue but apparently that's a thing. I'm not here to bicker I just love discussing this stuffm
@@Madadader In fact, Rivers only uses pedals at shows. For The Blue Album he used the distortion from his Mesa Boogie Mark I. BTW, yes, he used a Gibson Les Paul Jr. Double Cut for the distorted parts and a Fender Jaguar for the cleans (both from the 1950s and borrowed from Rick Ocasek) to record Blue, but he has been using humbuckers to record during the whole rest of his career.
Extra fact: Rivers has never used his blue strat to record.
Correction: Just checked, and turns out Ocasek's LP was a Special, not a Jr.
He uses a single coil strat in the keep fishing video
@@oliverheath964 And Buddy Holly
Can you please do sounds like the Melvins??????????
PLEASE!!!!
YES this
Only 4 of use :(... I been asking every video.. I don't think to many people know of them anymore.. I use to go to shows way back in the day and Cobain would be hanging out what great times, Than id go to shows with Brad Nowell well he played but i use to hang with the band..
Rickey Ryan Kinda sad TBH
OH BOY!!!!!
I've been waiting years for this. Thank you very much gentlemen.
=w=
Must of watched this video a hundred times over the years! Actually inspired me to get a Fender Strat from you! Love it
Rabae looks like the singer and guitar player from wolfmother with that beard lol
I was thinking Coheed and Cambria, but I can see Wolfmother too lol
Wolfmother... now THERE'S a Sound Like we all need!
Andrew Stockdale is god.
I was thinking Lindsey Buckingham in the Fleetwood Mac days.... hmmm .... that makes me old doesn't it ? yeah... it does
Definitely
Seen weezer on the weekend and I gotta say they sounded great, really surprised how light Rivers played, was hoping to see his strat but he played his white Sg, Brian played his silver explorer
The dry humour in this video was absolutely on point, love you guys!
Great stuff! I have the Boss Katana 2/12 and I can say without hesitation, my search is over. LOVE that amp!!!
Sound Like Queens of the Stone Age BY busting!!!
Sean Buchert the problem is, Andertons has none of the gear that would really sound like QOTSA on no budget... except maybe a TVL JM.
Sean Buchert yeah! They need to include Troy tho this time
Sound like Buckethead, please!
This was spot on, good job guys!
Just found this, what a great idea and well-presented!
I believe the Mexican Fender is very appropriate for this video.
The salesman tried to get my attention to sell me a Mexican Fender
i get it BUT, not with those single coils
I wanted to hear the Buddy Holly solo so badly...
Same my dude
Nailed the tones and I love when you pick bands with two guitars and both play. Sounds great
Apologies for all the requests. I just started watching your program today and really dig it.
There wasn't a non-Fender HSS-equipped guitar available either?
Please sound like Coheed and Cambria
Fiiiiinally. I've been asking for this one for what feels like years.
OMG I suggested this like a week ago! This is awesome!
Wow a sounds like Weezer without busting the bank. Say it ain't so
Jacob Reece They sound just like Buddy Holly
OOF.
All of the references are gonna be from blue album... they kind of came undone after.
Oh go away
Vince McMahon likes big Texan bullies I say Weezer puns all the time and no one else gets them. Like no other one... get it
Ha! That's the same way I first heard about Weezer too. Windows 95...whoda thunk.
Loved this one......congrats lads.
Rumor is that Rivers played the producers (Rick Ocasek) vintage Les Paul junior/specials for the blue album. The Blue Warmoth strat didnât exist yet.
The offspring. Theyâve been around for ages and deserve some love.
Rivers used a Doublecut Gibson LPJ (P90) through a Mesa Boogie Mark 1 (copy called Mitchell IIRC) for Blue album.
Aha! Rabeard! Excellent stuff lads!
Great sounding rigs. Excellent example of 2 very different, but highly complementary setups.
Sound like Claudio and Travis from Coheed and Cambria.
Classic 90s rock!
AllKeys JamTracks that makes me feel old.
irdeaner still feels like yesterday :,(
Most of there hits were in the 2000's
Nope Blue alumb was huge and was early to mid 90's
Since the ds-1 is out of stock everywhere for me, do you think using the sd-1 is a good alternative? How similar is the sound to the ds-1?
Rabea, What effects/amps did you use on the Katana?
I'd like to see a sounds like Chevelle. Great rock tones full of distortion and fuzz
Sound like:
Robert Smith from The Cure
Prince
Steve Vai
This was awesome. So spot on!
You should do Sonic Youth, the Descendents, Devo, Black Flag, and/or MxPx. They all have such unique tones I think you would have fun making them.
What's the model of the guitar between you at the begging of the video?
Thanks.
Please do Muse By Busting
Isaac Miller Theyâve already done it, though it sucked
Joshua Melara they did it without busting. Isaac is suggesting doing it by busting.
thats because muse sucks
Muse by busting a nut
Sounds like Mac Demarco?
Ya Boi Enzo
If I was doing it this is what Iâd choose:
Guitar: Fender Stratocaster Standard MIM
Amp: Something solid state, i.e Fender Champion 100
Pedals: MXR Micro Amp, Boss VB-2w, Boss TU-3 and TC Electronic HOF Mini
Ya Boi Enzo please
Ew
Strat into fender amp , compressor , chorus and vibrato (at max color/depth and little speed)
Great Demo Guys!!!!
Riversâs rig should have been:
Epiphone SG
Blackstar HT 40
ProCo Rat
Maybe a Diezel VH4 pedal if the budget allows.
Sound Like Deep Purple/Ritchie Blackmore
Sound Like Eddie Van Halen
Sound Like Everyone, pick a set of very different songs and come up with a rig that can play all of them as close as possible
Does anyone know how I can get my guitar to feedback like in the Blue Album?
Big fan of yours series and keep up the great work! And one request is sound like Opeth please đ€
Sound Like:
- Alter Bridge (I know you did Mark Tremonti already, but Myles Kennedy's guitar tone is also amazing, and it would be good to revisit Tremonti anyway)
- Rise Against
- Avenged Sevenfold
- Metallica By Busting the Bank
- Green Day By Busting the Bank
Still shocked that there hasn't been a Van Halen video, yet
I cannot say this enough. Those Boss Katana amps are wicked good deals!
You did it!!!! Thank you for fulfilling my request from months ago!!!
Sound like Periphery at the 3 different price point rigs, the under 500 and without and BY busting the bank , lik a supervideo, could really make something of that perhaps?
Probably my most inspirational band other than the Beatles
Thank you so much!
Sounds great!
Sound like metallica by busting the bank
Sound like Gojira! Joe Duplantier and Christian Andreu!
Pretty solid I think I'd go with Bea's setup for the overall sound but together you guys definitely nailed it.
The Boss Katana is really feeling the love from the Anderton's crew.
Do sound like motorhead
you should have used the charvel san diemis
definitely sang along to each song
You guys sounded amazing!
One more for good luck. PARAMORE! please
FYI, even though Rivers plays a HH Warmoth Strat live, he records almost exclusively with Les Pauls. Also, the clean part from "Say It Ain't So" was recorded with a Jaguar.
Finally! At long last!
Great stuff!!! You guys can play and it is inspiring to watch you pick up the songs as you go. (And play them well) I would love some Nofx please. Bass and guitar :-)
The Sounds Like... series feels like it it reaching its sell-by date. Of course, in principle it is endless as the requests keep coming in, but this episode, along with quite a few of the recent ones, definitely gives off the whiff of â letâs knock this out quick, thatâll doâ. It really feels like its moving towards: Hereâs a classic vibe, hereâs a kemper (or cheaper version thereof) Now you can sound like whoever you want, crack on and let us run our businesses. Not a criticism of Matt and Rabea, but it just seems like this series takes camera and edit time that could be better used with, for example, a UK version of rig rundown, where an artistâs rig is examined in detail?
Looked like they were really enjoying themselves with this . I don't know ? Just feel like your comment is a little off the mark tbh
Type O Negative for Halloween? No??!
yeah i was super dissapointed
What's the dsl range being replaced with then?
Rivers is the one who actually uses the explorer in the band. Brian has a the humbucker-ed SG, kind of funny, Rivers did also have an HH strat
Sound like Stone Roses please lads.
Not True Scotsman - yes - that would be great.
Yas mate! bloody gud!
Yes let's have some proper dirty indie rock. Kasabian too please
Not True Scotsman been asking for John Squire for ages!!
YES!
It was a hss warmoth but... I doubt Andertons stocks pre built warmoths
GalxyCoffee warmoth doesnt even stock pre built warmoth lol
What was the semi hollow behind them at the beginning?
I donât know what CZcams is up to but I literally opened my CZcams app to find a video like this and boom! Top of my feed. WTH, CZcams?!?!
Rivers used a warmoth strat copy with seymour duncans, sadly u didnt choose seymour duncans
really? which SDs?
David RF google it, a lot of replicas and parts are online
David RF 59 on bridge, and a dimarzio super distortion2 i think on the neck position
Gaseous Snake You're right
Truth. Fun fact: all his guitars on the Blue Album are Rick Ocasekâs 1959 Les Paul doublecut with P-90s.
man that katana is wicked!
I appreciate the Rabeard. Also, I played that Antique Korina a few weeks ago before buying one from the store - fantastic guitar.
i mean it was good but rivers uses a diezel vh4 head i believe through a vintage marshall 8 x 10 cab, which is why i must ask why you guys didnt use the diezel vh4 pedal? a very accurate tone just lacks the punch of a diezel
Sounds like Ghost
Please do it!!!
Sound like the following:
Primus
Megadeth (probably Marty era)
Van Halen
Steve Vai
Yngwie Malmsteen
Periphery
Meshugga
Coheed And Cambria
What about Slayer?
Fraser Cummings As much as I want Megadeth and VH, WE NEED PRIMUS. I just wanna see Rabea play like Les Claypool and what bass they can afford
Dion R not a fan of Slayer I must say (here comes the hate). I suppose itâs one of the bigger names they havenât done so they might
Andrew Pappas I donât think any of them could be Claypool. It will be a laugh trying to see them play Tommy The Cat or Jerry Was A Racecar Driver đ
Fraser Cummings I would love to see Bea play some Yngwie...
Hey guys, great video. Any chance of a sounds like on Nuno Bettencourt?
That was a fun one! When I think of Weezer I always think of humbuckers. I was surprised at the choice of strat, but it sounded great!
Sound like coheed and cambria
FREAKING FINALLY!!! Please do My Chemical Romance!!
Keshin Martin they dont sell razors tho
James Tillman How funny and totally 100% original. They don't stock drugs, adultery, or bald dudes telling women not to go to shows, but they've done heaps of eighties bands.
Winter Hisagi dude, calm down. I dont care for mcr so i said that. Dont get your panties in a bunch
Yes please! I would love a MCR one!!!
Is the DSL40c discontinued?
The rig Rabae picked is what i own, nice
Sound like Periphery!
