You guys should touch on the stoner rock sound, fu Manchu, kyuss. Sleep, and electric wizard.
Also would love if you guys did Dinosaur jr. You two rock!
Agreed Dino is well overdue..... and Pixies.
I just got one of the J Mascis Jazzmasters and its crazy just how close you get with the guitar alone.
DINOSAUR JR. YES PLEASE

Fuzzy?
@@skippityblippity8656 Fuzzy and clean yeah
That’s what I was gonna ask!
And maybe a dotted eight note delay?
Effect-wise would include a crapload of fuzz and a wah pedal
I would love to see a shoegaze inspired rig.
For £1500 it would have to be no guitar, all pedals lol
Every pedal in the store and a jaguar
Mainly just a good reverb pedal, a fuzz, possibly some sort of modulation, an offset Fender and a cleanish amp
@@stephenowen3383 And whole pedals in music store😅
slowdive, my bloody valentine, diiv, cocteau twins
I'd love to see you guys take a crack at The Pixies or St. Vincent
Do we get to see Rabir dressed as Annie?
I’m definitely getting a Black Keys, Arctic Monkeys, Franz Ferdinand, vibe from these tones.
well.. that was the idea
you mean industry plant vibe?
@@RJValdes09since when are franz Ferdinand industry plants? They grew because they ran underground raves in a factory until they got signed by domino records, during a bit of a boom in Scottish and international indie rock, they earned their success
ALRIGHT! YOU FINALLY DID IT!! ULTIMATE INDIE ROCK RIG IS MY FAVORITE BAND OF ALL TIME!!! :D
Lol 😝
When are they releasing the tickets for UIRG I’d love to see them live
Oops UIRR
It would be hilarious if someone started a band called Ultimate Indie Rock and sounded nothing like this, just to make it wrong.....
Name three of their albums
Sound like King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard without busting the bank.
Jonathan Meyer thats quite imposible to sind like them without the fluts and 2 drumkits
Please!!!!!
I'd be interested what 'era' of Gizz they'd pick, they've got a bunch of different sounds for each of the 3 guitars
No
Get an Eastwood Univox microtonal guitar.
Sound like ultimate post-rock rig would be awesome!
This right here
I third this!
If These Trees Could Talk but they'd need a 3rd guitar, maybe get Danish Pete in on it.
They did it and i'm gonna say it up front... it was the worst sound like i've ever seen and it sounded nothing like Ultimate Post-Rock Rig, it was terrible!
Which is a shame cos Ultimate Post-Rock Rig is my favorite band of all time!
@@KeeperOfPoops I agree with that! (the fact it sounds nothing like Ultimate Post Rock Rig)
if they had gotten for the lead rig a Fender Player Jaguar, Orange CR60C, Walrus SLO Reverb, Xotic BB Preamp and a Boss RC1. that would've been much closer!
and for the rhythm rig they should've gotten an Epi Les Paul modern, kept the Vox AC15, MXR Dynacomp, MXR Nano Clone and an MXR Mirror Image Delay.
Punk Rock Rig of the 70's - (Sex Pistols, Clash, etc) & Punk Rock Rig of the 90's (Green Day, Blink-182, Sum 41, etc). I love this show!!
Green Day, Blink, Sum 41... To me they're all bands that were so mainstream I hardly consider them punk... I'd think about Bad Religion, Pennywise, NoFX and Me First And The Gimme Gimmies... Maybe Rancid or even The Offspring... The bands you mentioned were more like the 'boybands' of punk like the Backstreet Boys or NSYNC... Over commercialized pop punk without much substance and aimed at teenage girls... Not always bad... But punk? Nah... That was the 90s though... Only took the record industry a few years to take everything innovative about the 90s and destroy it... Outside of the punk genre bands like Nickelback come to mind
@@LilSirAxolotl yeah they are pop punk rather than punk
Bad Religon (JCM 800 and 900's, Les Paul Junior and Les Paul Standard) NOFX (Hefe: Fender Telecaster with EMG hz pickup with a EVH5150, Melvin Esp Eclipse into a Mesa boogie Mark 3 or 4) They all use pedals but you can get the main rythm sound with the equipment mentioned plus a couple of pedals. I know that BR used some Overdrives and Melvin and Hefe both have chorus and delay.
Easy, steal what ever you can from your local guitar/music shop. Obviously i don't condone stealing/Shoplifting that's just something i saw in a Sex Pistols interview once
@@Yohahn Do you happen to know what amp Mike uses? I have a similar bass... But it's a Jerry Jones (Danelectro remake from the 90s) and it has a 30" scale length
7:42 - Basic 3D? Love the new room name!
Epic fail with this one xD
I thought it was their indie band name tbh. "Hi, we're Basic 3-D, and this song is called Fade Into The Distance"
That sounds like a band name in itself, and I like it
Erm.... it’s definitely our Indie Band name ;-)
@@RabeaMassaad of course it is! Need to hear Basic 3Ds debut single now 😂
I'd love to hear a 50s/60s rig - I've been trying to get that classic doo wop sound for so long and it's really hard to find anything out there with comprehensive gear advice. I'd greatly appreciate if you two could do a video on that! Thanks Matt and Rabea, I love this series so much!
I vote for Stoner. Always wondering how Colour Haze is getting that sweet fat guitar tone Or Samsara Blues Experiment.
Somebody mentions Colour Haze. I upvote.
Yeah I could hear this being played at fuck ton of breweries in my city. Good job.

70s Squier Strat, Vibrato pedal and a nice Fender clean amp
Vibrato not chorus
yes please!!!
Was just about to suggest Mac
@@tipyourbartender one wiggly worm
Please do The Stone Roses. You have the jangly, funky sound from the first album (which is 30 years old this year - surely a good reason to do a sounds like) plus the Zeppelin inspired riffs on Second Coming.
Yes
Can’t believe you haven’t done them already. Get it done!
yes +1
Ibanez CS9 and Alesis midiverb II are both essential. A hollow body guitar with humbuckers will work for guitar.
Beena great great suggestion.
This one is probably the most fun sounds like that I have watched yet (I have watched them all) you could tell that you were really happy with your selections of gear, and were having a lot of fun writing some indie riffs. Great job.
what would you name the indie riffs? can you give them a fitting title each?
Sounds like Mac DeMarco without breaking the budget, the cheaper the better
You can do that with 200 bucks or less
@@jgbulhoes8556 shit I did it for $30
@@frankietheghost9385 behringer vibrato?;)
@@bradmiller4652 kmise chorus actually
What about ultimate stoner rock rig without busting the bank?
Get some Bongzilla in there, I could see it. Lol
FU MANCHU!
imo there is no ultimate rig for that, ive played in that style for 10 yrs now and ive had equally doom-worthy tones out of a crate amp, a marshall jcm 800, a dual rectifier(blasphemy!), AND a fender hot rod deluxe with all knobs on 10 (including volume)
And then there are fuzz pedals....so many to choose from
Its all about how you dial it in and stage your gain, and how you play. I saw the melvins live for the first time a long time ago and the next day my playing was instantly different. I was standing 5 feet away from King Buzzo as he was playing and i noticed how "sludgy" his hand movements were, dont know how to say it, but my doomage suddenly got a lot more feel in it.
But yeah, as a title for the vid in this series, i totally getcha
And when talking specifically stoner rock, id just go with any amp really, a stoner rock tone is just a classic rock tone that you hit your strings harder with and then blow up the amp with a fuzz pedal with all its knobs turned up for your lead tone
with doom and sludge people are usually chasing after the most massive sound possible while retaining some sense of tightness
with stoner rock its more of a super mid-range focused light overdrive, and the amps breakup headroom and speaker wattage/size doesnt need to be suited for semi-tight fuzz chugging (like a fender blues jr wouldnt be, or the fender HRD BUT the HRD does that by itself with all knobs on 10 which is how i use it. But just doesnt take a pedal to boost it more while remaining tight enough for chugs at that point.) By the way, QOTSA's Songs for the Deaf had an endless plethora of amps tracked on that album, many guitar tracks are a blend of a shitload of other tracks together.
And a lot of those amps were random cheap used solid state combo amps they got for 50 bucks and tracked them to add unique textures to the overall guitar tone (blended in).
I get a really convincing QOTSA tone out of my old crate amp, FWIW
c standard tuning. Humbucker loaded guitar. Fuzz pedal through a bass amp. Great shout for a sounds like though.
you guys really nailed the tones on this one imo, I definitely got some early 2000's indie flashbacks listening to the demos.
no they didn't, this sounded nothing like Ultimate Indie Rock Rig! which is sad cos they're my all time favorite band
Sound like Primus!
Solid tones in this one, the decade rigs sounds like a killer idea
Sound like Kevin Shields-My Bloody Valentine?
Yes!!
i want this more than anything ever
Sam Green easy- Ibanez RG model, Engl Screamer and a miku pedal.
Vacuum cleaner
@@ip9068 He is. But you can get close(enough) with just a few pieces of gear and a lot of practice.
I used to be in an Indie band. I got some great tones running a Telecaster through an Orange TH30 and driving the clean channel, full volume, low wattage.
The Sounds Like series is simply the best content you guys produce. Good job Matt and Rabea. 👍
i have been using pretty much all of those pedals for a while and i haven't been disappointed whatsoever. they are great.
The ultimate Hair Metal or Hard Rock rig!! :D That would be awesome!
Lovro Knezevic Humbucker-Floyd rose-any Marshall ... and maybe a tube screamer.... or maybe not
@@dandyism7288 I would add a bit of delay and reverb, and maybe some light phaser and chorus for that tone :)
yeah! the ultimate hair metal or hard rock is my favorite band of all time
As an editor "Basic 3D" made me lose it 😂
Love this format! Nice to explore affordable items and pedals i've never head of before!
You sound like a mix between Blur, Bloc Party, and Queens of the Stone Age
But they sound nothing like Ultimate Indie Rock Rig
which is a shame cos they're my favorite band
You guys did a great job IMHO. The riffs you came up with and the gear that you chose definitely gave me early Arctic Monkeys/early Strokes vibes.
i think they did a terrible job, it sounds nothing like Ultimate Indie Rock Rig, which is a shame cos they're my favorite band of all time
but on a more positive note what would you name the riffs they came up with? can you give em fitting song titles?
The decade inspired rigs idea is a really good one I think, especially if you do it By Busting The Bank and get some proper classic gear involved.
I have a classic vibe jag with 11's on it. This video inspired some new playing and wanting to buy a big muff for sure without hesitation and few other pedals. Great video
Dude, sound like sonic youth without busting the bank :D
Good luck getting all the weird tunings they use for like every song
Don’t sound like anyone I can think of but I love the tones. I think you guys should sound like Hippo Campus. I love those guys.
it sounds nothing like Ultimate Indie Rock Rig i can tell you that, they have a way different sound to in this video
considering their frontman and Lead guitarist plays a Fender Jazzmaster through a Marshall Bluesbreaker with a Dunlop Wah, Boss Blues Driver, Dimension Chorus and Delay, with an EHX Holy Grail
and their Rhythm guitarist uses a Gretsch G5655, Orange Combo, EHX Green Russian Big Muff, Small Clone and Micro POG
Big fan of ya'll's videos!
You guys should do "Sound Like the Clash"!
Weird literally was trying to find a video exactly like this a week ago and the weren't any. Thanks guys I thought the tones were spot on
Sometimes, like now, the less expensive are more expressive. Beautifully done.
Sound like anything most versatile ultimate build!
Creedence Clearwater Revival without busting the bank.
That’d be awesome, John Fogerty is a great songwriter but a pretty underrated guitarist in my opinion
Love the sounds and gear picked. Really enjoy the genre episodes. Blues band next? Cover band? Funk, country, early Rock n Roll.
i hated the sounds and gear picked cos it's all wrong, it sounded nothing like ultimate indie rock rig
the genre episodes suck cos it's better when they play real songs
Sounded great! Nice choices. This is more useful, or inspirational, than artist-specific too.
but it sounded nothing like Ultimate Indie Rock Rig
which sucks cos they're my favorite band of all time!
Coincidentally, my mate plays a hollow-body Gretsch in his indie band and the other guitarist plays a Jaguar. Weird.
The perfect indie rock guitar = A Squah Jag-you-wah!
Sqwire jawire
a what?
Naaaa mate, the perfect indie rock guitar = A Gwetsh Jee twenny for twenny
I think you mean a squire jaguar, clod
@@isaacwells8515 You ruined the joke.
I play the same model of semi hollow ibenez and it's a beautiful thing that when broken in plays beautifully
Awesome! You guys should do “sound like” in specific decades!
The Streamliner series by Gretsch never fails to amaze me
Great Video! Please do a sound like Ultimate Punk Rock Rig :)
...and Break the Bank!
that would be awesome! Ultimate Punk Rock Rig is my favorite band of all time!
@William Allison are you dumb fam? it's a genre of music, not a rock band
Keep going guys. You manage to make this very entertaining. Cheers!
cool video guys, this certainly can help many to see what they should be going for but also for the ones that know more it is really cool to dive in to analise what makes the sound of indie what it is. Not as straight forward as other genres.
I’ma start an indie rock band and ONLY use G&L 🤘🏻😏
Lol, I was thinking, what a provocative challenge.
I mean, I own a g&l fallout and they are perfect for Indie rock
@@jenshache agreed! The sc2 as well.
I play mostly indie rock stuff and my two main guitars are a modded out squire jag and a G&L legacy tribute (strat). They both work great. I usually prefer the jag for rhythm and jangly stuff, but the G&L neck pickup sounds soo good for playing lead lines with lots of bends and vibrato. Plus positions 2 and 4 can give you some really unique tones. When I record I usually use them both on the same track.
be sure to call your Indie Rock band "Ultimate Indie Rock Rig" and play the songs they did in this video differently and make your tone nothing like the tone in this video just to make this video wrong and cause a flamewar
well i would definitely listen to that indie band's album
@SallyCanWait1996 well Ultimate Indie Rock Rig are releasing the album "Best of Ultimate Indie Rock Rig" in March of 2020
I'm hyped for it
@@sakimiyu4169 sadly it's delayed due to the virus, it should come in 2021 with any luck
Really like both these rigs!
Much love to indie rock. Would love to see more of it.
Sounds like most Metal rig? Metal being everything from Black Sabbath to Pantera levels of gain :) Megadeth, Slayer, Anthrax? Thanks guys! Love the stuff you do!
I would split that into modern metal and less-modern metal. Because I'm not really sure if you can do modern metal without busting the bank.
@@EzyoMusic you can easily do modern metal without busting the bank
Boss Katana(lead channel models a 5150 III), any guitar with high output or active pickups. Done and done.
Oh and don't forget the 4x12 cab
@@EzyoMusic It might be tricky with super high gain stuff and keeping clarity. May need a gate or something. Or an od pedal that helps to control the thump. But everything else the DSL series would be good I think for 80s metal. But it'd be cool for them to get a head and cab if possible.
That was awesome
Yes keep doing them, could garage rock possibly be a contender?
no it wasn't, it was awful! it sounded nothing like ultimate indie rock rig
@@KeeperOfPoops you're cute like that
i used to have that jaguar. so fun! I hated the tuning instability but it was a full pallate of tone
Very smart. I don't know if I've seen anyone do a video like this before. Great idea.
I'll be honest, either Rabea has a steaming hangover, or he's not OVERLY enthusiastic about this genre 🤣
You guys should do more "By Busting the Bank" videos.
Steven B i think it’d be interesting if they did a 5k budget so that they wouldn’t necessarily be getting the most expensive gear just to do it but still not be as limited as the budget videos
A very off-the-wall setup but really versatile. Nice job guys! Could try a classic rock and roll rig and a 60's psychedelic setup too?
Good job mates. Always enjoy your videos, thank you.
Jazz master/ jaguar and a fender twin reverb and you’re good
Great vid. When I think Indie Rock those are pretty much the sounds I hear in my head too... How about a Sludge/Stoner Rock Ultimate Rig... The wrinkle being guitar AND bass. Personally I'm hoping P-90's are involved...
nah this was a terrible vid, it sounded nothing like ultimate indie rock rig! when i think of indie rock these are abolutely NOT the sounds i think of
Those pink and blue jazzmasters are beautiful!
There's a great Aussie Indie-rock band called Hockey Dad and they got some nice tones you guys might like to try. Great vid as always, this is definitely my favourite set of vids from Andertons
Tom Petty and Mike Campbell of the heartbreakers. Budget 12 string in a sounds like would be sweet
One band I'm still waiting for you guys to do is Death From Above 1979. Also, what about Stoned Jesus, Fu Manchu, Them Crooked Vultures, or anything like that.
Yes dfa
Fuck yes DFA🙌
Them Crooked Vultures would be awesome, I’d love to see what they’d get for Josh and John Paul Jones
This is really great, I like the 'inspired by' approach. Ultimate funk rock rig would be cool.
OH YES! Ultimate Funk Rock Rig is my favorite band of all time
Did great. Liked the riffs too. Sounded cool.
What would you name the riffs? can you give them fitting song titles each?
I am a heavy metal guy and want to thank you guys for doing this video to help me think outside the box and make me realize playing is just for fun. Great job!
Do a 70s British Punk-Rock rig!!!
I think that you two should make an amazing indie rock band. I'd dig that
Superb. The best of these you've done! Sixties garage next!
For some reason that first tune gave me somewhat uptempo Interpol vibes. How about a sounds like Interpol?
Indeed. My first thought too. Please Interpol!
Interpol is super underrated
Sounded like Interpol to me aswell! They should definitely do Interpol!!!
What would you call the first tune?
@William Allison Behold "Play it Loud and Proud"
is that a good enough title?
Well, I mean, now you've brought it up, you kinda have to do the Jack White BY busting now... lmao
they should use, the Duesenberg they used in the BY Busting Green Day video
a fender twin reverb
a JHS Twin Twelve which is essential to get the sound of his fender silverface
a Digitech Whammy (obviously)
an EHX POG
and some sort of fuzz which has a glitchy weird sound, like a JHS Crayon
Thats some of my favorite playing. Which would make sense, being that I love indie.
Cool video, interesting to see the 2 tones come together. Really looking forward to decades based ultimate rig videos. How far back would you go...please at least go back to the 50's!
I would like to see an Ultimate 80's New Wave Rig! Saying, that, you should also do sound likes of a lot of New Wave bands like The B-52's, The Cars, etc.
The Cars is a great idea. So many great, mostly unrecognized guitar solos.
Elliot Easton is criminally underrated
OH YES! Ultimate 80's New Wave Rig is my favorite band of all time!
