- Rider's Range looks at the Versacarry size 2 and size 3 holsters. Does the size 2 REALLY fit all 1911s AND the micro 1911-ish guns? And is the Versacarry holster a good selection for everyday carry? We'll let you know what WE think.
Website: www.riders-range.com
purchased one for my Baby Eagle 40 cal, nice fit and functional so I like it.
Just purchased a size 1 for my S&W M&P 40 cal subcompact ...love it! Very comfortable, great fit and use it daily.
It is the OWB in black.
Thanks for watching and for commenting.
Wait a minute... I also have a Shield 40, and when I ordered my Commander from the Versacarry website, it pointed me to the size 3, and that's what I got. It fits perfectly. Wonder if they changed the sizing somehow? Otherwise, I thought that the size 1 was for the larger, full size pistols.
@@72grantorino My S&W M&P 40 cal is a subcompact ...10 + 1 round. Not sure if that makes a difference, but that is the direction the salesman led me for purchase. I fit the gun in the store to the holster and it fit snuggly, I could tell it would eventually mold to the leather.
I use my Versacarry's for EDC with zero issues. the best way to break these in is to wrap the pistol you plan to carry in plastic wrap, wet the holster with fairly hot water, insert the pistol, mold around the tight points and let it dry. This helps greatly with break in and fitment
Thank you for watching and commenting.
Very informative. Was on the fence but will purchase for the versatility.
Jeff, thanks for watching and for commenting.
A well done review. Not a perfect holster, but a great value.
Mark, thanks for your kind comment, and thanks for watching.
great video. i like these leather holster. i have other holsters, but i wish i had found them earlier. love the way you fit pistols into the two sizes.
GT birdleg, it's rather amazing how they can fit so many pistols with so few holster models. Thanks for watching.
Ordered a #1 for my Canik TP and Sig P226 and a number 3 for my Kahr PM9. Also ordered the revolver setup for my S&W 640 Pro. Currently have the base version without mag holder for my Sig P938 and love it. Thanks for the video.
John, thanks for watching and for adding your comment.
How do you like the size one for the Canik? I was interested in these holsters so I can carry the TP9SF.
@@EmbraceTheSuck It works great for both the Canik and Sig. For the money it can't be beat.
I never thought I’d have as many holster as I do! I have several holsters for each pistol I own, and I own too many pistols...lol! Thanks for Sharing!
Frank, there’s no such thing as “too many” pistols! Thanks, as always, for commenting.
Every gun I get gets a KTMech Gunfighter. Every gun I plan on concealing gets a Dara Minimalist as well. Any gun I set up exclusively for social purposes gets a Dara drop leg system.
I have a Versa for my G19 because it’s crazy cheap. I find the 19 in the Dara or KTMech all the time.
The one holster no-no is the SERPA. A few years back I was confirming my deer rifle prone out to 200 (roughly twice the longest shot I have on the mountain I hunt). I was rolling over on the holster as I would get the screwdriver or spare rounds out of my weak side pocket. When I got home I couldn’t get the loaded gun out of the holster. I had gotten a pebble between the holster body and the release. After I got the gun clear of the holster, all Serpa’s were thrown into a box and put in the garage.
I have a Gunfighter’s Inc Kenai for my Blackhawk I hunt with and carry when I may need a harder hitting pew (bear hunts or late night feeder filling on the mountain where the bears tend to congregate).
It’s about the best thought out hiking/hunting/Get off me Yogi rig there is.
Great review, I actually just received my 2 Versacarry holsters today, a size 3 and the one for the P365. I just started dealing with leather holsters. I primarily run kydex and wear belly bands. But I'm impressed with these Versacarry holsters. I also have the JM4 Tactical holsters with the magnetic retention system, it's pretty cool and innovative. Anyway great review and I think I'm gonna join your group of having a lot of handguns, I love them, lol!!! I just subscribed to your channel and I look forward to more videos.
russell, thanks for watching, commenting and subscribing. I look forward to more of your thoughts in the future.
I reached out to Versacarry. The listed the Canik P. but not my TP9SFX. They said in the 1st drop down choose any Size 1, then in the 2nd drop down (the one that matters) choose Size 1 and that will fit my TP9SFX & many other larger frame handguns. On Sale $19.99
Mike, $19.99 is a great price. I am actually surprised at how many different guns the holsters will fit.
They have it for $20 currently. You covered my questions. Sold.
Josh, great price.
On what you have and that is exactly what I have I haven't seen bad reviews it's the model that has a plastic plug that inserts into the barrel. Btw the belt they make is STOUT but I measured myself and I just knew it was going to wrong so I sent them back and waiting for the proper ones atm. I also formed my 2 holsters with the tail end of my buck knife and they fit great. Good video bud! Merry Christmas.
Boz Boz, thanks for commenting. I hope you and yours have a peaceful and enjoyable Christmas and New Year.
The sizing is based on the trigger guard. I have a few of their holsters iwb and owb
I read that in the Versacarry FAQs, and it does seem to work that way. But I'm old-school and prefer the security of having a holster made specifically for one gun.
Thanks for commenting. I hope you have a great 2020.
So how the hell do I determine what size mine is?
@@stevenhargis1513 they have a guide on their website. Find your firearm on the list for sizing.
I bought the p365 owb holsters a while back first time i tried to put it in the slide cocked back i was smart enough to test fit it unloaded uncocked that being said it needs to be broken in once thats done its a great holster
That's the nice thing about leather - good fit once it's broken in. Thanks for watching and commenting.
Just puversa carry compound holster for my p365 with manual safety. It is a leather holster with a kydex inside but is sandwiched in leather.
Just ordered did not receive it yet.
What brand did you order? I'm not familiar with Kydex with leather on both sides.
Rider's-Range I am sorry stupid autocorrect! It is versa carry compound holster did not get it yet but is ordered. It is leather on the inside and outside with a kydex shell in between.
Use several layers of wax paper instead. Works much much better.
I bought the #2 for a Para 1911 but I don’t have that pistol anymore so I use it with my Hellcat.
MrPerry61, I guess that's why they are versatile. Thanks for watching.
Was your para the double stack 45? I’m getting the rock island bbr 3.10 and not sure witch one to go witu
@@RidersRange now I'm using the #2 for my Sig P365XL Romeo
I carry a sar b6 in this holster nice and tight
Anthony, it's amazing how only a few models/sizes can accommodate so many different guns.
Really great comparison on all your guns and what fits. Very confused as to what holster fits the Springfield 911 9mm micro,,,was looking at the Arma and the protector that they have on sale now,,but spoke with them and they said the number two was the correct size,,,can you help me out please.
Douglas, as I understand it, the sizing is based on the design and shape of the gun's frame. It's interesting that the VersaCarry website doesn't list the Kimber Micro 380, Sig P238 (except the model with the Crimson trace), Colt Mustang or Springfield 911. However those are very similar in size to the 9mm versions of the Sig, Springfield and Kimber. I just tried my Mustang, 911, Micro 380 and P238 in my size 2 and the do fit, though they go in deep enough to make it a little difficult getting a grip on the gun.
@@RidersRange I did see that it goes in a little deep,,,so I guess the size 1 is smaller , they put out a nice looking holster, but need to do a little work on the web. site. And if you order the incorrect one they say a restocking charge. Do have tow nice leather holsters that are inside the waist.,,,,just got the right and left so I can clip them on the belt outside. works great , thanks so much for getting back with me. Have a Springfield 45 cal. Springfield XD-45 sub com. Mod 2,,with a ADE laser on the front,,,good luck finding a holster for that. ..Regards, Douglas
looks like they would work for home or range
Treesablowin, for the price, they’re great for knocking around.
Sooo..... I’m not crazy for owning a shit ton of hand guns to lmao thought I was the only one
Josh, maybe we need to form a 12-step group to handle our addiction.
@@RidersRange step 1 buy another handgun...
A little too much trigger area is exposed on some guns
That's often the problem with one size fits all (actually, more than one size, but close enough). Thanks for watching and commenting.
I purchased a size 3 by accident and they shipped it after I asked to cancel my order. What are you thoughts on the size 3 maybe working for a commander sized 1911.
Ryan, I haven't tried a 1911 in the smaller size 3. If you do, please let us know how it works out.
I was looking in to this holster but they dont have my pistol "Ruger 57".... so I sent them an email. They told me a size 1 is what i needed... now this is a full size pistol that i have. Plus I'm planning on adding a small tactical laser in front of the trigger guard attached to the rail.
I'm thinking I'll need a size 3.
What are your thoughts, thanks in advance
Josh, I would suggest contacting Versacarry again by email or phone and telling them specifically which laser you planned to use on the Ruger. I believe a Size 3 is essentially smaller than a Size 1. When looking at their fit list, there are several guns that specify a Size 3, but change to a Size 1 when adding the CT Laser. Better to be safe before you order.
@@RidersRange yes sir thank you
If your looking at the versacarry for a CZ P-10c or Walther PPS m2 take a look at my review.

Big Mo, I watched your video review last fall, shortly before I ordered my first VersaCarry.
By the way, it looks like a beautiful drive up to your "secret" shooting area. I was waiting to see what was ahead of you when you stopped. Then I saw it was a real good thing you did stop.
Thanks for watching and for commenting.
So if you were going to carry your 1911's on these holsters would you carry it cocked and locked ,or another condition? Since they don't have a restraint strap (which would not work well with the concealed carry model anyway), I was just wondering what you recommend. I always read cocked and locked (condition 1) is the safest way to carry 1911's by far. It would be nice if their OWB holsters would offer that option at least. I bought a Versacarry 1911 shoulder rig and it has the restraint snap and the mags on the opposite side so I can easily carry cocked and locked. It seems to be a very decent rig for the money. I have a slightly better hand made brand also, but its almost double the price. I just cant see these belt holsters as a good option for 1911 guys though. Maybe you can help me understand Versacarry's logic on their belt carry 1911 holsters. I'm not trying to be a smartass, I just don't see how I can use one. Yeah , that magazine carrier on the holster (strong side ) is just completely wrong to me.
patriotpaul, I carry a 1911 almost daily and always in "condition one" - cocked and locked. I haven't used a holster with a retention strap since I retired, so I am very comfortable carrying in "condition one" without a strap. (I regularly check to ensure that the thumb safety is engaged, particularly after getting in to my car and fastening the safety belt, and immediately upon exiting the car.) However, when carrying off my property, I always use a holster that is designed specifically for the gun I'm carrying, whether that is a 1911, or something else. Right now I'm carrying a Wilson EDC X9 in a Craft OWB leather holster that I'll be doing a review on in the near future, though I usually carry in a Garrett Industries Silent Thunder STX 2.0.
I like leather, particularly for a nice 1911, but I've also used Kydex - both OWB and IWB. My VersaCarry holsters are strictly around-the-house carry, and then generally not with a 1911, usually with a Glock, or sometimes with the Taurus G3c. VersaCarry is a way to save money on holsters, but skimping on the security of the method of carrying a firearm is generally not a good idea. Better off having a holster specifically designed for the particular gun.
@@RidersRange Definately , thanks ! I figured you had this all worked out by owning that many 1911s . I appreciate the experience you have and the help.
Seems like some guns slip out way too easy.
filolll, that's why I don't use them for carrying expensive guns, or carrying anything out in public. Thanks for watching.
Versacarry holsters are generic. They offer the option of picking your specific firearm when choosing the size for your firearm. Don't trust this feature when choosing your size. I did. It was wrong. After contacting customer service they insisted it was the correct size. Even after I sent them several pictures showing otherwise. I could have returned it. Their restocking fee was more than half the price of the holster. Inferior product & crap customer service.
Thanks for adding your experience and thoughts. I haven't tried the VersaCarry customer service, nor do I plan to. Their holsters are okay, if you just want to limit your expense and have one or two holsters to fit a variety of guns, but they certainly aren't my first choice, or even my tenth choice, for daily carry, because like government one-size-fits-all programs, one size doesn't fit anyone or anything beyond just being somewhat adequate.
