- Friday the 13th Part 8: Jason Takes Manhattan (1989) First Time Watching Movie Reaction, Review, and Commentary for JL. Many moments thankful that at least one slasher still scrapes the plate and many more thoughts about how slashers get to the end of the movie and just......were had.

The murder whistle: "He threw you the waaaaaaaaaaaaay over there" 😂 best line of the night.
The kill where Jason punched the guys head off is one of the best kills of the franchise forsure!
Respect for him squaring off with Jason and eating that fatality like a man.
Still not as good as the Killer Clowns from Outer space. Knocking the guy’s head off
@@kevinfinnerty8414He "knocked his block off".
@@bplup6419Cornered prey tend to fight back.
Funny thing about this movie is the amount of times Jason teleports
Little trivia J might appreciate here. In the original script, when Jason arrives on the dock at New York he was supposed to attack the dog and kill it. However Kane Hodder (Jason) refused to do it because he said it wasn't in Jason's character and the actor likes animals so it was rewritten
I appreciate behinds the story trivia a lot.... Thanks for sharing that. Not sure if you know but isn't Kane Hodder the same Jason in Friday the 13th Part X ?
@@hippiechic6772 Kane Hodder was Jason in Part 7, 8, 9 and 10
"Look, you don't understand. There is a maniac trying to kill us."
"Welcome to New York."
Fun Fact: Theatrical movie debut of Kelly Hu.
Authentic Battle Damage Fact: Vincent Craig Dupree actually cut his hand in the phone booth when Jason (Kane Hodder) shatters the glass around him.
Action Star Fact: According to an interview in Fangoria Magazine (August 1989), Kane Hodder vomited on cue in the final scene after drinking several pitchers of water. This was not a special effect.
Location Location Fact: Rob Hedden originally wrote more of the movie to be set in New York. He had written scenes at Madison Square Garden, the Brooklyn Bridge, the Statue of Liberty, and the Empire State Building. But despite the fact that this film had the highest budget of a Friday The 13th movie at the time ($5 million), Paramount told him that there wasn't enough money to film so many scenes in New York, so he was forced to rewrite the film and spend more time on the cruise ship; even most of the scenes set in New York were filmed in Vancouver. Hedden says he agrees with fans who complain that not enough time in the movie is spent in New York, given the title.
Make-Up Shenanigans Fact: Despite the nature of the film and adverse filming conditions, Kane Hodder provided several moments of levity which were appreciated by the cast. Following several death scenes, for example, once director Rob Hedden called "cut" to end the action, Hodder would do a brief disco dance in full Jason costume and make-up making the cast laugh. Kane Hodder says that one of the most fun parts of his tenure as Jason were the scenes in Times Square. He says that spectators were lined up and down the block watching the filming and he didn't want to take off the mask to destroy their illusion of Jason. He said that every once in a while he'd turn his head and look at them and watch them all go crazy.
37:17 fun fact the big guy that Jason threw in this scene is the actor who played Jason in Freddy versus Jason in 2003!!!!
Worst jason ever. They screwed kane so badly its not even funny.
@@user-gy4zp9jy1rOh, he did just fine. Gave the impression of a juggernaut. Only real problem was the lack of rage. Hodder played Jason as if he was barely holding back his fury, chest heaving, shoulders tense.
Jason killed so many people in his career, he took all that XP and maxed-out his stats. He's basically in God Mode through most of this movie.
It's confirmed to be in the triple digits, so that theory tracks. Very few slashers get a body count that high and Jason seems to have the highest stats when it comes to strength, endurance, and dexterity (when it comes to aiming anyway) compared to others. Sonovabitch killed someone with a throwing dart.
More like Jason takes a boat ride to Manhattan. They didn't even have the budget to film in NY besides the short scene in Times Square. The rest of the scenes that were supposed to be in NY at the end were actually Vancouver.
Tons of films and tv shows film in Vancouver. It's suppose to be fairly cheap to film there, and has a lot of various locations that look like different places outside of Canada.
This one has grown on me over time. Jason is pissed off and cruel in this one. He's sick of the bs😂
Yup, especially when he takes his time real slow with the girl hiding in the boat storage.
I always believe that Jason went easy on the boxing dude (forgot his name) and killed him quick when he could have brutally murder him. I believe Jason actually may have respected him for at least putting up a fight and then stand his ground and accept his fate when he realizes that it's over for him which is why he gave him a quick death.
His name was Julius, but here are 2 fun facts about that actor. The producer wanted to make the fight scene with jason look as real as possible so Julius insisted on actually hitting Kane Hodder while wearing the mask which made his knuckles bleed. Also the scene when jason grabs him at the pay phone, he ran and slipped on the broken glass which caused him to get stitches in his hand
Ken Kirzinger, the cook at the diner, played Jason in Freddy vs Jason. Jason throws his ass over the counter into the mirror on the wall.
I was just about to post that!
19:07 I know everyone was smiling when he said this knowing what was coming later hahahah
I can't believe you didn't laugh when he raised up his mask and scared off those kids. 1st time I saw that I rolled. I was like...Jason got jokes
Living in the city ain't no big deal! Got a heart made of US Steel!🧟
OH HECK YES. I absolutely adore how bad this movie is on SO many levels (the fact that it even starts with spoken word poetry in a New York City that just has vats of acid and toxic waste lying around like the Ninja Turtles are about to come out of the sewers) Jason throwing people around on a subway, kicking over sh*t, the boat of death - not even BEING in NYC (and of course, at least a couple of 'keys to the plot' moments) This is going to be a fun one. Also shout out my second home of Vancouver for acting like New York City throughout this all.
With the amount of crime and acidic toxic waste containers around, it seems like this F13 movie and Robocop may be set in the same universe.
@@goji8416 in a time of all IP being mined, might as well do the remake and make it so lmao.

This Jason swim's fast on the Friday the 13th game when you try to escape in the boat ⛵
31:08 I'm crying. Your speechlessness says it all LOL
Shao Khan: Brutality, Jason Wins
Jays rant before the black guy fighting jason is priceless and the best thing ever lol!😂 laughed so hard, thanks murder whistle.
The "Jason vs Freddy vs Ash" comic, tells us how Jason got back to crystal lake...
He walked. -_-
Actually yes he IS teleporting. Ever since he became “Zombie Jason” he could do that. That’s why a variant of Jason can do it in Mortal Kombat X also.
J played the game.
I don’t know why he’s acting so surprised here.
I met Jensen Daggett "Rennie" at Scarefest here in Lexington Ky last October with the Friday Final girls and shes a sweetheart and even more beautiful now.
He didn't have to do nothin. Just throw him in the water.😂😂
I paused the video for like 10 minutes at a time. It Took me four attempts Just to make it through that “Your making us all look bad.”
The boombox kick and mask lift were priceless 🤣 Kane Hodder loved the shots in Times Square! Said it was unbelievable the crowds all cheering him on! Julius despite the outcome I think it was admirable to try to fight him, you just lost your head a bit 🤷♀️ Hearing J saying parkour was hilarious. The crappy ending was meh. The amount of wtf looks J gave the screen was so funny and Lord LOC I’m sorry I made you spit your tea! 😂😂
Always loved this one!
"Jason Takes Carnival Cruise." LOL
EOM you always make me laugh when you holler at at a jump scare.
This is my absolute favorite Friday the 13th. Jason is brutal. Happy 69th birthday to Kane Hodder, the best Jason!!
Jason teleporting all over the damn place like Nightcrawler from the X-Men.
😂😂😂 That's exactly what I thought!
I mean, he already fought a chick that had telekinesis, so this franchise jumped the shark a long time ago.
@@hisdudeness8328 No lies detected.
Jason saved Rennie from being assaulted by those hoodlums.
Can’t believe this came out in 89. I feel old as dirt 😅
Can't wait to watch this with you guys. 😁
Fun fact: Kelly Hu, the girl who played Eva the ballroom chokeout girl, went on to voice D’vorah in mortal kombat
Jason takes a boat ride!
From Vancouver, Canada to New York.
@@jpd9h2i7 then 10 mins in Manhattan lol
🤯After AAALLLLL these damn decades and I'm JUST realizing that Julius is "Sherm-head" Loco from *South Central*
JL, watching you react to Jason is the greatest thing ever!
24:30 "Jason, he right here bro. Kill him first." 😂
Edit- 35:52, wait till Jason X. 😏
Mate after a long and not so fun weekend this was the video I needed, That comment when he threw the guy in the water has me in stitches my friend lol.
When she saw that girl on the floor with the glass
Andy Barkley: "he said aunt Maggie was a real ***** and she got what she deserved"
The screenplay originally had the second and third acts taking place in Manhattan, but the five million dollars budget wouldn't allow so much on-location filming, so it was largely repurposed on the ship. The only times the filming crew was physically *in* Manhattan were the brief moments in Times Square, everything else was filmed in Vancouver. Those problems aside, this has some decent kills, and I liked the claustrophobic setting on the ship, with Jason silently stalking his prey.
Apparently they all hated the dog because it would never do what they wanted it to do. Probably why he disappears a while here and there.
Also, As a promo for this movie, Jason was a guest on the Arsenio Hall Show. The interview is here on CZcams.
I love the Jason movies so much! And I also love how my boy still manages to get a couple of jump-scares on you 😂🤣😂
Man, I absolutely love watching your reactions. When Jason threw that chick on the dance floor.......your reaction was hilarious. Love the videos man!
I don't know about this dude trying to box Jason... but I will say... I would LOVE to see Jason vs Tyson lmfao.. Only time I may bet against Jason... Well.. Prime Tyson.. not 58 yo Tyson lol.. .
Jason kills with a different kind of Axe in this movie. 🎸🪓
Jason can definitely slay.
I’ll see myself out now.
I honestly think Jason gave Julius an honorable death based on the fact that he was the only one that had ever went fist to fist with Jason.
It makes sense. Jason usually kills all his victims slowly and very painfully. But with Julius, it was a quick decapitation, something Jason never gives any of his victims.
That lake should be band from anyone going in there. They just woke Jason up with the anchor getting stuck in an electrical wire!? 😅
The look on your face when Jason gave homie the uppercut of death…..PRICELESS!!!!
27:53 LMAO Yeah, you right, slashers dont ever be setting up the sequel. "Is it gonna be the last one made? we dont know"
This is my all time favorite Jason movies. Also love the shirt, G1 for life.
Back in the ’80s, your only options for seeing trailers were the previews before the main show, and maybe a condensed version that got turned into a TV commercial (but those tended not to come out until pretty close to opening weekend). And one day, my dad took the family to the movies to see… probably Star Trek V, he was a Trekkie and the dates seem to line up. Anyway, one of the trailers before the show was for Jason Takes Manhattan.
I don’t remember if they used the term “teaser” back in those days, but this one really was more of a teaser than a proper trailer (someone has helpfully uploaded it to CZcams: czcams.com/video/w5fc43O3ynE/video.html ). And if, like pretty much everyone in the audience that day, you haven’t seen it before, you don’t actually know for sure what movie it’s advertising until the last 15 seconds. It was a surprise to all of us.
My recollection was that most people in the theater laughed. My dad, though, yelled at the screen with more disdain and anger than I’ve ever seen from him in public before or since. He _hated_ this franchise, and the fact that it was _still_ getting sequels just pushed him over the edge. I was glad the lights were already turned down; it was embarrassing to be associated with that.
See that boxing match? That's what Tyson is going to do to what's his name....
I give the black dude respect cause we've seen characters in horror movies demonstrate that they know how to shoot a gun, then sit there shaking instead of shoot when it counts. At least he fell back on what he knew...Then I watched the rest of the scene...His character has to be one of the most disrespected characters in cinema history for how they did him there...
Fun fact the man jason threw in the restaurant played Jason. In Freddy vs Jason. The boxing 🥊 scene. He wasn't dumb he knew he couldn't run no where and ya kane hodder didn't like the end as well.
@JL The ONLY think that made watching this turd possible again was your amazing commentary lol. Thanks as always to your amazing editor, the EOM staff and the amazing patreons
“This should be called Jason Takes Carnival Cruise” was golden 😂🔥
27:48 Epic Rant - Julius was the GOAT
This is a Horror/Comedy!! Enjoyed the watch through!
@4:29 “He about to Aquaman the fu-ck out of y’all.” 🤣 Reminds me of his “Aquaman of Death” joke from a previous F13 movie.
When they were getting on the little boat to row away, all Jason had to do is drop down onto that little boat
The cook that gets tossed by Jason plays Jason on Freddy vs Jason
39:17 If I recall right, that's Kane Hodder genuinely vomiting water. He could throw up at will. Maybe he still can, but that doesn't seem like a skill you practice often.
Every time you see Jason he's breathing like he just got out the water lol
Ready for another Slasher Saturday
37:20 that's the man who played Jason in Freddy vs Jason so this is the Jason Vs Jason crossover we've all been waiting for.
I had questions at the end too. I was like they killed off Jason by acting like he was terrified of water from drowning when he was a kid but half of the movie he spent swimming or walking in water, especially the New York Bay
The two best killing parts of Jason kills. 1. The f-ing block got knocked straight off and onto the waste container. I'm a black man myself and 🎉 and I just laughed so hard at Mr. J reactions which are priceless. And 2. Her uncle got thrown out the window and drowned in toxic waste. Once again Mr. J. reactions are still priceless.
"Why this trying to be sexy..... "😅😅😅 the intro music
The electricity that revived Jason gave him the power to move super fast/teleport. Jason gets stronger and more supernaturally unstoppable every time he comes back to life, unlike Freddy who gets weaker and struggles harder to come back each time he dies. So Jason’s latest resurrection, using electricity again after the first time with lightning made him realize that he never actually died, it gifted him an extra power, but only during this current resurrection.
Fun fact: when Jason went to kill the girl in the bathroom the mirror was supposed to shatter when she hit it but it just broke. Before the director could call cut Kane Holder the actor playing Jason just walked up and punched the mirror to get piece for the kill.
Well, I know what I’m watching on my lunch break now 🤘💀🍿
1:56 - 😂😂 yes lmao. Every night… int the living room which where the good TV was.
This movie actually established Jason as a dog lover. At one point Jason was supposed to kill a dog but the guy playing Jason, Kane Hodder, pointed out that Jason wouldn't do that since his beef was always with teenagers and people. The director agreed and kept Jason from killing a dog. Guess Jason ain't all bad. Lol
One things for sure....Jason isn't going to be killed by no Busta Rhymes!
Umm... neither was Michael Myers. It took Supernatural's Rufus, in some convoluted plot, breaking some stalker ex-boyfriend's fingers to give a waitress' daughter some dagger that I'm pretty sure ended up being used by the Demon Bat in Jeepers Creepers 2.
Jason was killed by a 12 year old Tommy Jarvis
@@RyGuy42089which is a million times better than Busta.
Jason was killed by 12 year old that must take you to your little heart John Smith
@@rumbledumpthumpershaker6735 again: neither.was.Michael.Myers. In the end, it took Jamie Lee Curtis... the way it always should've been.
I'm going to say that toxic waste contributed to his resurrection at the bottom of the lake, but it also made him vulnerable to it. Which is why he was so easily defeated by it.
Love the t-shirt JL!
Oh man, I love you so much for that skinemax reference
Awesome shirt!!
19:08 oh he's gonna try! 😂

And dude...I love your shirt!! I had them all when I was a kid!! Transformers 4 life
Ah yes the old classic Jason takes van vancouver 😂😂 awsome movie thou 👌
Better go check Jason's police record.... I spit my drink out that was so funny!!!
Rev. Snow, Chrissy dad on Three's Company.
This movie is garbage and I adore it. I have the banned I Love New York poster framed in my living room. There's an amazing deleted where Jason's walking through the subway, and he's ignoring everybody and focused on walking, then he just shoves one random guy for no reason.
This is one of my favorite Friday flicks and guilty pleasures since I was a kid. No, it's not a great film by any means nor is it close to the best Friday films like the 4th and 6th movies, but I have long adored this entry for being so delightfully 80's and riding the traditional slasher lane with some sparing but effective comedy. I was waiting for this one and I'm happy that J finally got to it!
Part of me wishes people would not compare Jason to Michael. Friday the 13th is for those who just want to watch a bunch of kills. Jason dies comes back dies comes back it's like he's being summoned to kill anyone in his way. So yeah Jason kills more than Michael. But Michael is a different type of killer, he kind of pick and chooses his victims. Jason just doesn't care he got that everyone dies mentality. Don't get me wrong. I love both franchises, just had different mind set when I watch them. Michael and Jason to me are the brothers of destruction.
1st off, love your content, im absolutely here for every slasher Saturday, and 2nd, you know how in the friday the 13th game jason gets rage mode towards the end of the match?, I feel like part 7 and 8 jason is that through both those movies
This is one of my favorites because of how cheesy it is and it's a C*caine cabinet top 10
I love how J has beef with Michael Myers 😂😂😂
He did watch him get kicked around by Busta Rhymes. Watching the new trilogy will bring up the respect points.
Friday the 13th Part VIII: Jason Takes His Time Getting to Manhattan
J, your rant about the black kid trying to box Jason was hilarious! I was out of breath from laughing so hard! Great job with a really ridiculous film (though nowhere as bad as Halloween: Resurrection).
Jason-X (2001) was a fun one! I think you’ll get a kick outta that one 🤙🏻
