    I got to meet Betsy Palmer (Mrs. Voorhees) about fifteen years ago. She was an absolute sweetheart.
    Since you brought it up: I saw a documentary on Friday the 13th, and the iconic sound we hear is “ki” and “ma”, meant to be shortened from the “kill her, mommy!” that Mrs. Voorhees kept repeating.

      My father and brothers all drank it black, except one put a little sugar in it because he wanted the straight caffeine for energy, I guess. The time line of this franchise is so off the wall Jason drowned in the 50's thirty years later his Mom still feels the need to get revenge even though she kills the 2 original neglectful counselors in the beginning. Part 2 is said to take place in 1985, making Jason thirty-nine-years-old.

      @DeanWinchester69 Před rokem +1

      I was also 9 years old when I watched this movie, but it was in the movie theater in 1980! My father took me to see all these horror movies when I was way too young, and I've been a horror super fan ever since. I would search the local video store in my neighborhood (this was before big chains like Blockbuster existed), and look at all the horror VHS tapes with the cool cover art and read the descriptions on the back to decide what to rent. No public internet or smart phones back then, so you basically had to go by word of mouth from friends or if you were lucky enough, you had a subscription to cool horror magazines like Fangoria and read the reviews there.

My brother was a movie nerd and I remember the lengths he had to go to for some of these tapes, growing up in Norway we would try to get anyone with a relative in America to ship us movies, and then you would have to get that one kid with a video player that could handle NTSC (we used PAL) to borrow you it.

    • @DeanWinchester69
      @DeanWinchester69 Před rokem +1

      @@asbjrnmaus7666 I respect the determination your brother had to watch these movies! I was fortunate in the USA because as home video and VCRs became more affordable I had access to stores like Suncoast Motion Picture company and other specialty retailers at our local shopping malls. I had a similiar but reversed experience to your brother in trying to hunt down more obscure (at the time mid to late 80's) European horror titles from UK, Italy, and Spain that saw very limited release here. There were titles that I wanted to watch but couldn't because they were in the PAL format and the multi-format VCRs were too expensive. Fortunately, now boutique genre retailers like Arrow Video, Blue Underground, 88 Films, etc. are producing more region free DVDs and Blu-rays because the demand is still there for these films.

    "You see, Jason was my son, and today is his birthday..."
    Fun Fact: The scene with the snake was not in the script, and was an idea from Tom Savini after an experience in his own cabin during filming. The snake in the scene was real, including its on-screen death.
    Location Location Fact: The movie was filmed at Camp No-Be-Bo-Sco in New Jersey. The camp is still in operation, and it has a wall of Friday The 13th franchise memorabilia to honor that the movie was set there.
    Music Enthusiast Fact: Composer Harry Manfredini has said that contrary to popular belief, the famous "Chi, chi, chi, ha, ha, ha" in the film's score is actually "Ki, ki, ki, ma, ma, ma" and it is meant to resemble Jason's voice saying "Kill, kill, kill, mom, mom, mom" in Mrs. Voorhees's mind. It was inspired by the "Get her, mommy! Kill her!" scene in which Pamela Voorhees breaks mentally. Manfredini created the effect by speaking the syllables "ki" and "ma" into a microphone running through a delay effect.

    • @EOMReacts
      @EOMReacts  Před rokem +8

      Saw a story, too, where Savini and the production crew did not tell the snake handler/owner what was going to happen. So they essentially murdered dude's pet on camera.

Looking back, these were a great introduction to horror. Now at days, these kills aren't as graphic as they seemed back then. Not the best acting in these movies either. But what I love is the creative kills, the mood and atmosphere of the woods, and the score, which is reminiscent of Hitchcock.

    Glad to see you watch this movie. I love the Friday the 13th franchise, I grew up on them. Betsy Palmer did a hell of a job playing crazy mom, in reality she was such a sweetheart. Tommy Jarvis comes in at part 4. I hope you watch parts 2 & 3. Part 3 is about ties with 2 as my favorites of the series. Adrienne King who played final girl Alice is such a sweetheart too, one of my most prizes collectible is a copy of her original script. That was a fun read to see what didn't get put into the finished film. Take care man, hope you have a great day.

    Tommy Jarvis is indeed a character in the franchise, but he appears until Friday the 13th: The Final Chapter as a little kid. In the following films he appears as a young adult, like in the game. In fact, many references of the video game were taken from the different movies from the franchise. For example, Mrs. Voorhees' sweater appears in Friday the 13th Part II and basically fulfills the same function as in the video game. You can tell that the programmers of the Xbox game are fans of the series, unlike those idiots who programmed the shitty version for the NES.
