  • This is a clip from The Southern Outdoorsmen Podcast EP. 588 - • Hunting BIG BUCK HIDEO...
Jeff Baggett and Travis Lee are extremely successful at tagging mature bucks in South Alabama. In this video, we ask them about whether signpost rubs or community scrapes are better for getting pictures of MATURE BUCKS and hunting them.

Forty years ago, there was a 75-acre track of land that had honeysuckle thickets throughout it, and there were, i guess, 300 or more scrapes and rubs everywhere, but it was full of does, and you couldn't hunt it without getting blew out of the stand by does. We killed some deer there for a few years. It was great for East Texas. I love the podcast.

So the magical question of the day. With this information where do you set up??? Do you follow them into something that looks good. Or set up a ways down from the big daddy rub where you think he’ll be in daylight.

What's considered a sign post rub?

A bigger tree that multiple bucks hit multiple times throughout the year.

Sign post rubs are made & used by one or several bucks ...it's a more aggressive rub and it's usually in a small gathering area where deer will frequent yearly and the sighn post rub is made and used as a communication post so to speak like leaving a note but the buck or bucks leave their trademark individual scents on this rub / tree and they do it every year in some cases ! They use and make sighn post rubs to communicate and claim their territory.... they will use these rubs also as visual markers kinda like a sighn for other bucks to see aswell as themselves... sighnpost rubs can be very productive to hunt !
