  • This week we are talking with Tyrell Roy all about using focal points to locate mature bucks, and then how to backtrack them to huntable areas! Subjects include:
    - Using some kind of focal point to locate bucks (food plots, bait files, scrapes)
    - Finding pinch points in areas where there seem to be none
    - Locating the specific travel routes a buck is likely to use
    - Bumping does on your way to the buck, does it really matter that much?
    - How to know when you are on THE trail
    and much more!

I can relate to his thoughts and methods here in central north Carolina as a flat lander with small woodlots and agriculture fields its a whole different ball game in its self because alot of time the bedding areas are to small to enter & alot of deer bed right on edges of the ag fields and the mature bucks may reside in center of block or any edge of the woodline depending on wind etc. So it can be hard to predict deer movement and bedding because the deer especially the mature bucks bed in random areas and putting out corn to get a deer to travel a certain area is sometimes your only chance to connect with a mature buck atleast scent checking to bait pile ! I hunt heavy travel routs but the mature bucks I've witnessed never travel the well used paths and they hardly ever walk same path twice ...mock vine scrapes have worked wonderful with code blue doe estrus has pulled nocturnal bucks out in daylight !

I dont get concerned about moon phase at all as far as the old saying "must be a full moon" but i do have a question. With a full moon at night making it so bright outside will the deer move more because they can see better, and maybe move less during the day because they were up running around all night?

Studies from multiple studies from wildlife biologists show the moon does not affect deer movement in any way.

More impressive than a wall of genetically modified steroid fed zoo pets that someone bought as opposed to working for!
