Happy halfway point, mama! Here’s what you can look forward to at your next midwife or doctor’s appointment. Plus, has your uterus begun its training yet?

Judo chop! Are you feeling Baby Natural kick yet? She is growing larger and stronger, measuring over 6 inches from crown to rump, and weighing in at around 10 ounces. Double digits, baby!
This week marks your "halfway" point of pregnancy! (Although who really knows when baby will make her debut?) Still, there are many exciting things taking place.
For the first time, you’ll likely be able to hear baby’s heartbeat with a fetoscope-great news if you’ve been forgoing the Doppler.
You may also be headed in for your first and only (or perhaps second or third) ultrasound this week, too.
If you can, however, I recommend pushing the Anatomy Scan off until Week 22 of pregnancy. Waiting a bit longer lowers the chance that you’ll have to repeat the ultrasound to get a more accurate picture.
(I'll never forget seeing my son Griffin and his big foot pressed up against my uterus when the sonographer rubbed her wand over my belly.)
You might spot your baby sucking her thumb, kicking, or doing somersaults. And yes, at this stage it’s common for experienced sonographers to spot a little dangler between baby’s legs… or not.
You at 20 Weeks Pregnant 🚺
In celebration of your halfway mark, let’s talk about your big, beautiful belly this week.
By now, you might have an outie instead of an innie (I'm talking belly buttons here). You might also notice a faint dark line running down your belly. This is called the linea nigra (translated as literally "black line"), and can be caused by the hormonal changes in pregnancy. It is very normal, and usually fades completely postpartum.
Speaking of bellies, have you noticed any cramping, tightening, or even muscle pain? Again, completely normal. These are called Braxton Hicks, and they are a good thing. Your uterus is essentially "training" for the big labor day event. I had them much more often during my second pregnancy, and that birth went much faster.
Weird fact: Some first-time mamas won't feel any Braxton Hicks, although they can be picked up on a monitor.
Braxton Hicks usually come on once (or a few) times per day, and don't last for long periods of time. They can intensify if you're dehydrated or overly active throughout the day, so drink some water and kick your heels up if they get too uncomfortable.
As always, if you notice that cramping becomes strangely pronounced or intense, give your midwife or doctor a call.
How To Sleep Safely When Pregnant 💡
From the moment we wake up, to the moment we fall exhausted into bed at night, we are thinking about taking good care of the life within. Even when we sleep, we can’t truly “rest” until we know how to sleep safely when pregnant.
Clearly, you can rule out laying on your stomach after the first couple months. And past 4 months, you’ll hear warnings about sleeping on your back.
So, that leaves sleeping on your side. But is the left side best, or is it the right? And what can you do to help you get comfortable?
To set your mind at ease, here are some facts to help you sleep safely when pregnant-plus tips and tools for a good night’s sleep during your 9-month adventure.

I love listening to these videos every week. One thing I really don’t like is the misinformation about ultrasounds. There is no radiation and they are not unsafe.
We are so glad you enjoy our videos! There really have been no long term studies or trials to INSURE the safety of ultrasound, which is our main concern.
Mama Natural are there studies that ensure that it’s not safe? Ultrasound is made up of sound waves not radiation. Studies have shown that exposure to radiation is not safe. Not so for ultrasound.

My wife and I went to our first big ultrasound today and we found out it is a boy!!!! (it is her 3rd baby but my first) was such an amazing experience to see him kicking and rolling around in there. He was very feisty. When the ultrasound tech was looking for the gender she paused the picture, stopped, and looked at us and said "those are boy parts". I was was halfway through saying is that what I think it is lol. Such a cool experience. I was getting a little watery eyed at first seeing my little guy moving around. Cant imagine how I will be when he is here.

Hi! I'm an ultrasound tech, and just wanted to let you know that ultrasound is non radiation. Yes doppler is slightly more intensity of sound waves. Which is why we don't use doppler on early babies heart in the first trimester usually. But there's no negative side effects on baby. And Anatomy is pronounced An-at-o-mee. Love your channel. Great info.

Thank you for responding to my earlier message! Wondering if you could please post a link here to articles/studies that have found the impact of ultrasounds being unsafe or detrimental in some way. I just want to know where the hesitation about ultrasounds come from. I’ve been having ultrasounds every 3 weeks since my first trimester and none of my doctors have mentioned any adversities so I’d like to know if there is any. Thanks!

Ive been getting braxton hicks Since the beginning of my pregnancy. They dont hurt i just feel them. My uterus will be well trained

I am watching your videos since I found out I am pregnant. I am 20 weeks and 1 day pregnant with my first baby. I had scan yesterday. He was keep moving while scan and yawning. Ohh my God it was funny and amazing feelings to watch that. Before yesterday I was not feeling his movements and I was so surprised when I see he is keep moving and my OB is chasing him for scan.

I'm a person living in extreme poverty and am relying on CZcams for most things at the moment at 20 weeks. My question is why should I call if my stomache cramps a long time? I /constantly/ feel stomache pain both up high below my ribs and below my belly button. Often times I feel my muscles inside twitching like crazy as well but that's only in my pelvis (fupa specifically) and below my belly button. Since I can't afford to just go to the hospital whenever I have an issues (and don't have an ob) what should I do if this is a serious problem .
If you’re having contractions, you may feel them as cramping/stomach pain. Too many contractions that early could be preterm labor, which can be very risky and cause your baby to be born too early. Your hospital should provide emergency medical treatment regardless of your ability to pay-ability to pay should never prohibit you from getting the treatment you or your baby needs ♥️♥️♥️

So sleepy on my stomach is a no 😩 I still get comfy on my stomach and I’m 20 weeks and third pregnancy
If you can still get comfortable and don't feel lightheaded or dizzy afterward then it is still likely safe. Once it is no longer safe to sleep on your stomach, you will likely no longer be comfortable ;-)
I have not felt the baby kicking yet.. is it okay for a plus size mom?
It can be completely normal for all mamas to not feel baby regularly or at all until after 24 weeks!

The only definitive way to figure out if it’s a boy or a girl is through ultrasound or blood test. But here’s a fun quiz you can do now! It’s not definitive but it might turn out to be predictive for you!

Sounds like a muscle spasm/stitch in your side! However, upper right sided abdominal pain can be signs of gallbladder or liver issues as well, so it's definitely something to mention to your doctor at your next appointment.

What if my baby is on my left side? If I turn on my right side he tends to move to the right. If I move to the left then he follows. So I really can’t get comfortable at all when I try to get sleep at night
That a completely normal occurrence, especially when they are so little. Sleeping with a pillow supporting your belly and between your legs may help you get more comfortable!

A doppluar has harmful radiation.? How much is to much .? Because I'll be getting imitated in to the hospital to be monitored because I am high risk
It's hard to say exactly how much is too much--it's really up to you to weigh the risks and benefits of monitoring in your particular situation!
Im high risk too and have to do ultrasounds wish I could just relax with it baby has done fine so far i have placenta previa. Wish I had a choice just hope my baby is happy at healthy all I can ask for really.

You have PLENTY of time for her to get into a perfect delivery position. At 20 weeks she is still so tiny that even if you attempted to get her to turn head down, she would likely not stay there for long.

Your baby is very low in your abdomen at 20 weeks! So this is normal.
I’m fat so I can’t feel my belly if I don’t lay on hard floor = can sleep just like normal. Stomach that is 😅
