- Toronto police say 12 people are facing a combined 102 charges in connection with an investigation into a major credit fraud scheme.
The charges were announced Monday as police provided an update on a probe into “synthetic-identity fraud” dubbed Project Déjà Vu.
Det. David Coffey, of the Financial Crimes Unit, said synthetic-identity fraud is a form of financial fraud in which fictional personal information is used to open accounts at financial institutions and other businesses.

I am an immigrant myself. I came through express entry with a lot of rigorous requirements from a western Balkan country. I came to Canada to fulfill my potential and give my contribution to this country. This has to stop, the law must be harsh to all these criminals (no matter who). Break the law - go to jail. I didn't come here to work hard as I do, and to get ripped from these people, and others who try to benefit from the system and taxes I pay!

That driver’s negligence was responsible for so many deaths. He was driving without proper training and experience. Was given that job because of an industry that’s rigged with scams and incompetence. His own people are involved in those activities. When we immigrated here years ago, opening a bank account was difficult, needed a referral, getting drivers licence was difficult, it is very easy now if you have certificate the country they came from, every one can come to Canada, difficult to understand the criteria govt. looking into to give PR.

If credit scores were checked the identity would be determined to be fake. Either the institutions involved were negligent, one CB or more thief worked at the institutions or had associates who did.
