The release of a 17-year-old with a prior conviction highlights a stark failure in the Canadian legal system. By not detaining him after his first offense, the system essentially green-lit his further descent into crime. The subsequent, more severe offense cannot be viewed solely as his fault; rather, it reflects a systemic failure to rehabilitate or deter. His lawyer now faces a critical task: to challenge the Canadian laws that allowed this young life to spiral deeper into criminality. This is more than a failure; it’s a serious miscarriage of justice.
