The Pokemon Card Market has been absolutely crazy over the past month with tons of Alternate Art Pokemon Cards from the Sword and Shield Generation seeing insane price jumps. This price movement has caused a ton of frustration in the Pokemon Card Community with many Pokemon Card Collectors worried about what the next card is going to be that is going to jump in price.
While it can be difficult for Pokemon Card Fans to see their favorite cards exploding in price prior to being able to purchase them, it is extremely important to not get caught up in FOMO and let emotions get the best of you. In this video, we take a look at Alternate Art Pokemon Cards from the Sun & Moon generation. These cards exploded in price last year and have been steadily declining over the past 6 months. Will Sword and Shield alternate art Pokemon card face the same result? Let's talk about it!

That's the FOMO. Pretty powerful how people feel like if they buy in late, they'll ride the hype to the top so they can triple their money in months. It's the same mindset that we've seen in stocks for 100 years that loses day traders and swing traders their entire life savings. Soon, all Pokemon as well as home values will crash. People can barely afford to live with all the inflation and homeowners insurance increases. Almost everything money can buy is at least 50% overvalued relative to the actual median income. Every single time in world history that's happened, we've seen values crash.
I think the thought of having somthing valuable in thier possession is what brings everyone to chase after things after seeing it rise ...... unfortunately not many are fortunate. many spend thier time watching others attain these accomplishments and they too want to be part of it. some settle for being a small part even indirect at times . some don't settle unless they have that said desire feeling fulfilled and then chase the next fulfillment. as a whole having singles retain a certain amount of value is wise. imo keeps people engaged. not everyone sales thier collection or prized valuable. beauty is in the eye of the beholder and many can't help but want what they can't have 😅

Mannnnnn all I needed was a Gengar Vmax alt and Dragonite alt art…. Then the prices went crazy 😭.
Was gonna buy the remainder of the missing alt arts that I was missing in early march. Price just exploded, now it's way over my budget. I'm only missing 11 cards and the total is over $2k, a few days ago was like $1.8k, it's just too hot atm 😅
You are doing amazing! As the story of the lumber jacks. 2 lumber jacks cut wood 10 hours a day and 1 cuts 10 and the other cuts 20. The reason the second cuts 20 is because he takes a break from chopping and sharpens his axe. We need to take breaks to be able to come back stronger!

Ignoring the FOMO is reassuring - the only time I try to buy with any urgency is with sealed product thats definitely not getting reprinted that I might have missed out on initially. Only time I've really been burned with FOMO on the sealed was the Charizard Premium Box, a good lesson.
Same, I way overpaid for the Charizard ultra premium collection. Same with classic collection, ouch lol

Thank you for making this video, Danny. Now that Sun & Moon Alt arts that were all the rage are coming down in price, the prices are rising for Sword & Shield alt arts. Just wait if you want one for a decent price, wait until people are fighting over the Scarlet & Violet alt arts and those prices start rising and people move on from the Sw & Sh era.
Market price for gengar mimikyu gx may be $250, but the last sold is $350 and the cheapest NM listing is $600😭

That's good to hear since I have that card 😅 sorry I feel your pain tho 😅 as soon as my taxes came in I got it for $242, thought I'd never get it after all the tag team alternate arts skyrocketed 😭 glad I pulled the trigger... I'm so glad I also recently pulled the trigger on Dragonite v alt art, I actually pulled the Rayquaza v alt art right after buying one for $78 dollars 😂 and I got the Tina last month when it was $230 dollars 🙆 luckily I already had the Umbreon v alternate art, got that for $85 last year, the other cards I had literally just got and then bam! Overnight they all spiked! 🙆 I would've been so pissed had I not pulled the trigger on them all right B4 they all skyrocketed like a mutha f'r 🚀😅🤬🙆🙇

I collect psa 10 charizards, I’ve found that best time to buy is minimum 6 months after release when there too much supply and not enough demand paying $550-$800 (aud) is ridiculous when I know it’ll settle at $300-$350 a few months later
Regrettably I sold/traded my SWSH alt arts 6 months ago but i am slowly getting some back, needed this video to keep me calm 😅 it’s a marathon not a sprint right?

I picked up all the sun and moon alts before they got this crazy. Grabbed the wailord and macicarp for 55$. Wish I got all the trainers too. Misty's favor has gone crazy
I have to wonder if besides the buy outs and the Doom and gloom s & v opinions. I have to wonder if this is also partially because alts aren't as "special" anymore? Like the were like mind blowing in s & m. Super cool in sw and sh, and now with them being in EVERY set in S & V people are just cooking down on them.

I was trying to get these years ago when I was collecting before giving up on pokemon. The pulls and loss of work did it. I'm glad i'm glad im back at it, I'm collecting these tag team cards in Japanese and some are not as expensive as the English versions. Loved this video, its always a good idea to work with your budget. Prices fluctuate so much.

This is such an encouraging video. I can only afford to spend 100-200 a month on my collection so ihave to be really picky. Ive also had to sell my entire collection a couple of times to pay rent. All good things take time ❤

When it comes to collecting, my dream card is always going to Moonbreon. I still want the card but I don’t have a preference for anything else until I see the card. For me it is not about price and making money. It will always be for the love of Pokemon. If it happens that prices increase then another positive added that I was not looking for.

This is what they call the dip before the rip. These cards have been bought out and they are about to sky rocket now. The Gengar & Mimikyu Alt for example, the cheapest NM on TCGplayer player as of this moment is $850...
Completely disagree. This is absolutely the rip before the worst crash in world history. People's bills are up 55% when their incomes are up only 12% for the first time in world history, all in only a 3-year period. People can't even afford to live but tens of millions of people have these items hoarded hoping to triple their money. As people start to sell off everything so they don't lose their homes and vehicles, Pokemon as well as home values are going to crash even worse than 2008. It's already starting. Tens of thousands of layoffs per months and the lowest demand for mortgages in 40 years guarantees this is coming. You really think a $400 Pokemon card that was worth $15 2 years ago is going to "skyrocket"? Think about it. Nobody makes 30 times what they were making in 2020, Pokemon is in the largest bubble of all time.

Nothing is crashing right before an election and check back with me MAYBE come 2028 regarding the housing market. We are not near 2008 levels yet but going towards it. You said it yourself. $35 card (latias/latios) until EVO SKIES brought people to look back for alt arts as it became the modern standard as a "chase" card.
Not some rainbow card, not gold, but alts.
Evo skies the one that brought SM alt arts. Evo skies certainly didnt start it in SWSH either, was battle styles. But no-one cared for BStyles AND Chilling Reign

The prices are just correcting to reflect their true value (for the most part). These are pretty normal moves for cards like this. Avoid card whose graphs are parabolic.
I wish I would have FOMO'd back when the Moonbreon and Rayquaza were under $100...
When was that? I pulled my Moonbreon in the first week after release and the price was about $180 and the Ray was $200. They switched places over the course of the next couple of weeks and Umbreon was off to the moon. Hasn't been below $200 since.

Pokémon International needs to stop playing games. Leave them on the website longer. Just make a limit of six per customer. Don't let bots take over and ship them to a bunch of random addresses It's not fair. And finally but most important force suppliers to give them to LGS. Because months ago they were not letting us order anything which is nonsense. For SWSH

I really think FOMO rn is cuz SV suuuuuucks. Twilight has ZERO cards that I would even want to collect besides the artists that I collect. We need a solid set to come out this year and imo Paldean Fates was not it

What do people expect when you have a constant barrage of influencers in the hobby screaming at people that they must invest in this now. This hobby is the worst at creating FOMO.
Waiting even longer should see even more drops in prices on the sun and moon stuff. Hot runs always come to an end.

Japanese prices of all these cards have come way down, good time to pick up
They're on their way back down to normal prices and they won't go up for 20 years. Japan had even worse inflation than the US, and now are in their worst recession ever, and the US and Canada are next. Highly recommend to not touch Pokemon singles, as they're going to crash another 80% and stay there for 15-20 years - both in English and Japanese.
