  • Have you seen adult Atlantic Salmon fighting, digging a redd, or preparing to spawn? Have you seen fry or juveniles in the streams? Have a look at some of the only Atlantic Salmon videos showing these behaviours for this reintroduced native species in Lake Ontario tributaries. I spent many hours finding these fish during my free time and own copyright to all clips shown here.

Kathryn, as someone who has championed the return of these fish to Lake Ontario & tributaries for the past 40 years, THANK YOU! This took a TON of effort, time, and knowledge on your part to accomplish. I truly hope people watching this video can appreciate your level of dedication to this magnificent species. Thank you so much for making & sharing this video.

Fifteen years of salmon fishing in the Lake Ontario tributaries, this year was the first time I caught a decent size of Atlantic Salmon. Beautiful species.

Great content. The hatchery atlantics don’t look good at all after they are stocked.

Some do, some don't. If hatcheries focus on quantity and not quality, then fish health can decline. Stocked yearlings often have a lot of dorsal fin erosion.

@@NatureTidbits I noticed the atlantics that they stocked in Port Hope last fall were nasty looking, almost deformed unlike the wild fish.

I believe it's some fungus, which happens to spawners in streams.

    are these wild ones?

They are probably all fish that were stocked at juveniles, though there's a small chance some are from natural reproduction.

Catching an Atlantic in lake Ontario streams is a rare assurance, like catching a unicorn. For the amount of money and effort spent the returns are no where near what they should be but hell yea let's just keep pouring more money and time into it.

Guy is unware how long it took to establish the Pacific salmon way back when. I swear some people are impressively unlikable.

@@MatGTAM Atlantic reintroduction has been attempted off and on for well over a century in lake Ontario, Pacific salmon no where near as long but have been much more successful. As a Ontario steelheader I am well aware of how long it to to establish Pacific salmon which are still stocked by the millions. Only way I can possibly see Atlantic's in lake Ontario again is to stop all Pacific salmon stocking and for that matter rainbows and Brown's then stock them by the millions and hope they take.. But anglers who have grown up fishing those fish would rise up and put a stop to it. So with the numbers they are stocking is is not very likely we will ever see the same numbers of Atlantic's as the other species.
