Mt Rainier summit: Kautz Route carry over

- Evan, Matt and I climbed Mt Rainier, August 5th-6th. Up the Kautz route and carried over to descend the DC. This was an incredible climb on a massive mountain. We covered about 15 miles and gained over 9700 ft of vert. The ice on the Ice Chutes was pretty brittle and made for some challenging conditions, but Evan lead it like a champ. We jumped more crevasses then I can count and weaved out way back and forth on the upper mountain to finally gain the summit. It was EPIC.

@@MrCbrehaut it's a nice step up from the other easier routes in terms of technical difficulty. But it's a good one!
Awesome job.. I summited via the Emmons Rte circa 2004. That Mt has opened up (crevasses) so much over the past two decades now. A much harder climb now. Even the DC rte was ‘tame’ back then, not all opened up.. wow.

Great video! 2020 was the first year myself and a couple buddies got into mountaineering together. Did Mt Baker Coleman-Deming route and Mt Adams Mazama glacier. Working up to mount Rainier starting with DC followed by Emmons routes. Eventually, I want to hit the Kautz. It looks incredible! I love how well this video really takes you there and highlights a few of the major challenges.

nicely done! I did Kautz in July a few years back and the scenery was completely different than late season. Carried over and got stuck in the crater overnight because park service won't let us come down and camp at Muir. It was a fun route. didn't have sketchy ice like you guys did lol

Nice work! We were up there a couple days before you, and made it up to Camp Hazard before being turned back because of the wind. Can't wait to head back next year to give it another go.
This is an excellent video! Best Kautz vid on YT by far. Better than the 3 part OSM Kautz series. Very nice coverage of the whole route, especially of the chute. I'll be doing this route in July.

Nice, ive only been climbing for about 2 years now. you can learn a lot pretty quick if you want too! We are from Portland area. Mt Hood is my playground :)

yea the crevasses up there are amazing! this was my first time summiting Rainer, but Even (who was leading) had been up there several times before
