We will definitely be coming back to Rainier, as there are just to many experiences waiting to be had! Possibly a ski of the Emmons glacier, climbing the Kautz route up the front, skiing the finger, and many more!

Nice Job! I was able to summit and ski Rainier via the Fuhrer Finger back in June. It's been an amazing summer for climbing up on Tahoma!
I watched your video! It was awesome! It is definitely on my list to do as well! We talked about going back and skiing Emmons as well next year, so many options for fun on that mountain!
@@AnOccasionalAdventurer I also am hoping to ski Emmons next year, and maybe the Kautz/Turtle/Van Trump glaciers as well. So many great ski lines on Rainier
@@seamus.dolan98 Let me know if you’re looking for more ski partners! I kind of live far away, but am never afraid to send it!
Paradise looks so different in the summer. I've only ever been up this winter. Nice trip!
It does change a lot with the seasons! Thanks for watching it, we had a great time!
Some of those crevasses really opened up. Awesome video!
i’m 15 but i want to hike this over the summer. my parents are “too old” to summit this with me so im trying to convince them to let me summit this with a guide. i want to summit as many mountains/volcanoes as possible before i finish high school. so far i’ve only done St. Helens but that’s what really got me into this
That’s a great goal! There are amazing guides who take people up Rainier all the time, we passed quite a few parties who were guided on our trip! Good luck and thanks for watching the video 🤙🏻
Excellent views of the technical sections. Thank you.
No problem, thank you for watching!
Great filming, the lack of snow and ice was a bit stunning. Good thing the rangers added plywood to help with the ladders they placed. Cadaver Gap looked good for a shortcut from what I could see but great climb guys!!!
Hey Brett thanks for the kind words, it was a blast! Yeah it was really nice for the rangers or RMI to put them there! It was our first time past the ice box, so we decided to just stick on the main path, but definitely hope to get on it more in the future!
definitely go back for the Kautz. my favorite route on the mountain IMO. Just the right amount of challenge without being full of dread. Killer route.
Kautz is on the list as well! I had some friends do it last year and need to look up some more info on it! Thanks for watching!
Epic shots!
Great footage! I hiked this 2 days after you and I completely agree - we won the weather lottery. We got shut down due to weather last year and couldn't have asked for better weather this year. Congrats on the summit!
That was literally the same story as us! We tried to do it last year in May and got turned around from avalanche danger on the Cleaver! I’m glad you got to the summit this year as well!
W❤️W! That’s Awesome! Cheers for more exciting and incredible adventures! 🥂❤️✨
Thanks for the watch, it was an awesome time!
I’ve never been to the summit, but to Camp Muir several times. A real nice hike. Glissading down the snowfields is also great fun! Also tented at Paradise in the middle of winter, with a brief white out while hiking! It’s a special Mountain because it’s so accessible.
Camp Muir is still an awesome place to be, we had so much fun glissading down the Muir snowfield as well! Thanks for the watch, Rainier is a true outdoor playground!
Weather was awesome this year. Nice!
It was! And now with the early snow fall, hopefully it sets it up for an awesome ski season as well! Thanks for the watch 🤙🏻
was just out there with my family doing basic hiking, and seeing guys like you starting at the same point in Paradise, it was really cool for us to see through this video what going to the summit looks like.
Thanks for the nice words Jim, I’m happy I could share my adventure with you! It is cool seeing the inter mingling of people headed for the summit and day hikers lower on the mountain! Rainier sure has trails for everyone!
Great footage and attitude! Nice fisheye lens! Bucket List
Thank you for the nice words and watching the video! The fisheye lens is my friend Shane’s 360 camera! It gets some crazy looking shots and gives a really cool perspective!
I climbed rainier twice. the first time was with rainier Mountaineering second time I did it with some friends of mine and we use skis up and down both times we stopped at Camp Muir and camped and did a midnight Summit both times were in May the crevasses weren't as severe and there was no Trail therefore walking was a lot more difficult than following the trail
Great video!!! Thanks.
Thank you and thanks for the watch!
Awesome climb with an awesome view!
Thank you for the watch, and it sure was an awesome view!
Great video, cool crew!
Thank you, it was a good time with good people!
Epic! Thank you!
Thank you for the watch!
Looks incredible
It was awesome! Thanks for the watch!
wicked cool crevasse shot! 11:03
nice work daniel
Thanks for the watch, it sure is, all thanks to my friend Shane and his 360 camera! I still need to get one of those!
Dude that was an awesome video! You had an amazing sunrise and great weather! Those were some big crevasses you had to cross and Shane's video of that was awesome. That glissading and everything else definitely let for some good memories
Oh yes Jordan, we got the perfect weather window! The crevasses were really opening up for sure and the glissading was an absolute blast to finish out the day! So many awesome memories! So when you buying crampons and an ice axe?!
@@AnOccasionalAdventurer After i buy more canyoneering gear probably. The list is too long lol
Great job Daniel, I tried summitting Rainier like 10 years ago but had to turn around due to avalanche warnings, I'd love to try it again in the next year or two.
It’d be so worth it! If you can, try and get a permit in the summer time, that’a what we did after getting stopped by avalanche danger last year in May!
Great video, great climb. What is the camera you are using that makes it look like the camera is floating above your head?
Thanks for the kind words and watching the video! That is my friends 360 camera, the name of it is a go pro hero max camera and he has it on a pole that the camera then stitches out by itself!
Awesome vid and what a great view 😱 Is there a way to reach you?
Thanks for the watch and the kind words, we had a great time! If you have any questions feel free to comment them here and I can respond or if it’s for something else we can figure out another way 👍🏻
Nice video!
Thank you, and thank you for watching!
Awesome stuff! I’m a student at UW and love backpacking and hiking and all and have been trying to get into mountaineering to build up my skills to be able to hopefully tackle Rainier eventually with friends. Out of curiosity how did y’all learn the skills such as self arrest and crevasse rescue to be able to summit Rainier safely?
Hey Jacob, thanks for the watch and go Badgers! We learned crevasse rescue and self arrest techniques from Utah Mountain Adventures over 2 classes for glacier travel, and then practicing the systems in Utah as well as just building 3-1s and 5-1s in my basement in Michigan and out at climbing crags. There’s a great series from Ortivox on CZcams that covers a lot of the systems and gear that is required for safe glacier travel, feel free to ask any more questions here though and I’ll try my best to answer!
Nice work! We were there a couple of weeks ago, the weather was great and summit was surprisingly crowded. Crevasses look very familiar, only two ladders so far?
Thank you, and thank you for watching! Yes, at the moment there are only 2 ladders on the DC route, but the last snow bridge before the summit looks like it could be going pretty soon, so I would imagine that may need one or be rerouted!
How did you predict the weather beforehand and choose a day with no clouds?
It was pure luck, we picked the date 4 months ahead after our friend got access to the early access lottery!
Forgive me here but are the crampons and ice axe not enough protection to summit? I’m unfamiliar with glacier travel so if it’s for crevasse safety I wouldn’t know
Hey Kev, yes the reason is mainly for crevasse rescue, which is why you rope up as a team. If one person slips or falls, the other people can assist in the self arrest and prevent them falling down a steep hill or into a crevasse. And then able to build the systems necessary to pull said person out of the crevasse. You could do it alone with just crampons and an ice axe, however I believe you need a solo permit from the National Park Service to do so. Thanks for the watch and the question!
@@AnOccasionalAdventurer thanks for the detailed response, Daniel. Very cool!
@@KevAlberta no problem, thanks for watching the video!
How one gets out of a cravesse if falls into.
Hi Jamel, thanks for the watch!
Crevasse rescue if very important to know on glaciers, if one of us was to fall in, we are all tied together via a rope, so we would pull them out or use our pickets to build an anchor and then a haul system if necessary!
did you apply for the filming permit
I emailed the Park Service actually regarding filming in National Parks with my GoPro and iPhone intended for this CZcams channel and they responded with this “Hello, no permit is required for you to film with your own handheld equipment while you are in the parks (the idea being that this has no greater impact upon the parks than the average person filming for personal use). Thank you for checking and have a great trip this summer.”
The park service just want to make sure commercial productions and companies/products aren’t using the parks for their videos to my understanding causing disruption, but that is up to them to decide on a case to case basis, so I would say it doesn’t hurt to email or ask about it if concerned
Can this be done solo or is a rope team necessary due to the crevasse?
Hey John, thanks for the watch! You can do this solo, but to go higher than camp Muir, I think you need a solo climbing permit from the National Park Service!
What was the date of this climb if you don't mind sharing?
It was August 5th and 6th in 2022!
@@AnOccasionalAdventurer Cool. Thank you. We went up and couldn't summit the end of April this year due to weather and avalanches distroying the route. I plan to go back next summer around the end of June hoping Mother Nature is kinder to us.
Sounds like a good plan! We tried the year before in May and got stuck at the ice box because of Avi danger on the cleaver, but it’s always a great time on that mountain!
Sick invite bro. I've always wanted to do this day hike
Edit: I just realized you did this day hike in 2 days. I am glad I did not come along. I plan on doing the round trip in under 12 hours.
