      @@peterlue9274 Sorry - my understanding is JT performed well as a third line Centre, Leafs were 8 wins versus 1 loss without Morgan, Nylander finished the year injured and Matthews only generates between 33% to 50% assists compared to the current top 25 NHL assist leaders. This Leaf Core 4 have been a playoff disappointment (zero playoff runs) for 8 seasons now. These are all just facts. Please explain your point ok. JT is likely headed for a buy out & many Leaf Followers don’t understand keeping both Marner and Nylander at $11 Million. I don’t.

    • @peterlue9274
      @peterlue9274 Před 17 dny +2

      @@jimlangdon1947 So Matthews 70 goals is not the reason why his assist percentage is so low? Craig Simpson talks about how his high ankle sprain affected him for an entire year. JT had about 30 fewer points this year. Morgan Rielly takes the regular season off likely because he does not want to get injured when it does not matter. As for Connor Timmins being practically undefeated in the lineup, the media and fans want to run him out of town. Considering Only 1 player in the core for is looking like he is healthy and we are still winning games, I think the blame does not go to the core 4 and you cannot expect Mathews to take up the slack for 3 of the 4.

    • @jimlangdon1947
      @jimlangdon1947 Před 17 dny +3

      @@peterlue9274 I disagree respectfully. Matthews just doesn’t have the skills as a centre requires even to compete with the current Top 25 Assist Leaders. Snipers like OV, Hull, Selanne and Matthews belong on the wing. Many of Matthews goals are scored when he is out of position as the centre - and he is basically sniping from the Wing like OV. Just move Matthews to the wing and develop a real Leaf First Line Centre with skills to be inside the current NHL top 25 Assist Leaders at a minimum. 😀 what Leafs fans get from this Core 4 is more years with zero playoff runs.

I’ve waited the first three games and haven’t been impressed with the leafs.All,this talk about been more physical payers really hasn’t amounted to very much.Once again it’s the top players who have failed to step up to the next level.

    Leafs need to get back to the way they played during the regular season...just play hockey, I know you need to take it up a few notches in the playoffs but I think the Leafs are capable of that. Not sure what coach is responsible for the Special Teams at Leafs practise, but he has no f----ing idea what to do, to get the PP and PK to be MORE effective, CONSISTENTLY? On paper, the highly skilled Leaf players on the #1 PP should be scoring 80 - 90 % of the time. Not happening, a BIG problem and issue, especially in the playoffs?

    Someone please explain why a team built like the Leafs struggle so damned much to get any goals. This team should never have defensive and/or net minding pressure simply because they should be able to run up the score on teams much of the time. You know, maybe not every single game, but in a best of series this group should out score any opposition significantly, and yet they just can’t. No PP to speak of, mediocre to poor PK. How the hell will that win anything? Could it be that these highly paid core players (with the exception of Mathews) aren’t actually as skilled as their pay grade suggests?
