We spent very happy times when FELA ANIKULAPO KUTI came in KAMERUN in the middle 70's. We even tried to sing this particulary song during school music shows, using our own words n mostly in our dialect

Opened my mouth, sang jeun ko ku
    sang na fight o
    sang who are you re
sang alu jon jon ki jon
    I've incurred debt
bought different alcoholic beverages( beer, stout, ogogoro, whisky)
    we drank
    now my pocket is empty
started breaking bottles because we are having a good time
each bottle is worth 6 pence (sisi sisi)
the debt you want me to incur I have incurred
    hope you have heard.
Essentially the above is the gist of this song

Baba Kuti was simply making reference to the ingrates of this world that you spent time, money and energy on. And now that you're broke, they wouldn't show appreciation for your good deeds towards them in the past when you had money. And now that you can no longer feed them with "freesbies", they became disruptive, threatening, destructive and posed danger to your livelihood/ well-being etc. .

This song was ad-libbed live at the original Afro-Spot later called Kakadu when a fight broke out while Fela's band was playing. In those days the breweries charged deposits for drink bottles. They were smashing bottles and this was Fela's response to those ingrates who didn't appreciate the music and would rather fight over some woman. You can google Bodederek for more info.

I like the beat of this song. It has some small guitar chords thown in for rhythm,....my friend "idris" introduced me to fela kuti's music and this is the only song that I like so far. the way that the song ended with everything coming together is the peak for me. the girl on the cover is also nice......Im going to go home and see if I can do the rhythm guitar on this song or at least learn it by ear.
