  • We are so excited to start using this Mic for all our guitar and instrument videos! In this Episode Ryan showcases the the VR1 Ribbon Mic by sE.
Have a listen as he plays through a 1969 Marshall Super Lead, 1961 Fender Concert and a Two Rock Custom Reverb Signature 3.
All guitar audio recorded using the sE VR 1 Voodoo Ribbon Mic on its own as well as paired with a Shure SM57.
Ryan had ordered the VR1 for personal use and with Music Junction but we were pleasantly surprised when the team at sE Australia(Sound and Music Australia) generously offered to send us out a unit to use.
Thank you so much to Rob and the team at Sound and Music, and Kristjan from Music Junction for making this happen!

The VR1 is your new "secret weapon" ribbon.
The VR1, a passive ribbon to bring out the bite and edge from your guitar cabs with no muddy highs.
The VR ribbon microphones from sE mark a new era for ribbon mic technology.
Until the VR Series, the only ribbon mic in the world to perform across 20Hz-20kHz was our own Rupert Neve collaboration, the RNR1. This was achieved using state-of-the-art custom transformers and a Rupert Neve-designed circuit to reveal HF usually absent.
With the VR mics, full frequency response is achieved using a clever mechanical device designed by Siwei Zou, the company CEO, and a hand-tensioned ribbon constructed by our highly specialized technicians in sE's capsule room.
The result is a superbly detailed, open and natural recording of acoustic instruments and guitar cabs. The VR1 & VR2's ability to perform - coupled with their unique look - have already made them a secret weapon for top musicians and engineers worldwide.

This is exactly what I wanted to hear! I have been going down a rabbit hole of ribbon mics, and was considering just buying a Royer R-121 since it has been the standard. This demonstration really sealed the deal on the VR1 for me. Thanks for the taking the time to do it!!!
