The song in the beginning reminds me a lot of the stuff on Tim Pierce's solo album! That's great!
Pete, thank you so much for your channel !!!
Dude! That solo was SICK. Very nice demo again Pete.
Holy crap, Pete! That solo! Just mega. Not just cause of the number of notes either. Nice melody in there too.
0:52 is ON like TRON!!! Great vid Pete!
Love the VR1! I use it on so much. My standard setup for acoustic is recording midside with the SE 2200 mkII center and the VR1 as the side mic.
You, sir, have the most exquisite equipment a guitar player can own. Thanks for the review!
you are like a God to me
when it comes to tracking and playing !!!
just speechless !!!!
Awesome Pete!
Just amazing Pete thorn always just blown away, one of my 7yr old grandchildren said grandpa Pete thorn is on, I'm still bustin a gut. your a household name lol
Pete - great to see you were letting yourself loose on that intro. You are a classy player in all your compositions - this was fun to see. Thank you for providing your personal history with these mic's - it's great to know you're reviewing items you actually use, "pre Pete-Tested" so-to-speak. Your insights into mic placement, the way and what you convey about the engineering side of things and the affect on the sound - this is valuable and exciting stuff.
Beautiful tone on the lead - phase pedal?
Awesome demo!
As usual, awesome review!
I will add as well, and it seems i am not alone, that your playing is going up a level and particularly on this clip, you seemed really focused and enjoying the groove! I caught a couple new licks in there too :) ... I am going to say that is in direct relation to working with all these different guitar players with different influences coming across! Bravo, my friend!
This review made me buy the VR1. It is amazing on my guitar cabs. Thank you so much for doing this for us Pete. I live in a very isolated place. I ordered the microphone from our local dealer here, and it took only about 10 months to get it, hahahaha. Something must have failed with shipping to the dealer here, or something. Anyways, great vids, very detailed and the awesomest chops, riffs and solos.
Musically
A very humble, Mikkjal Hvannastein
great song and solo dude
Smokin', Pete!
Dude, your playing has just gotten off the chain
I agree. That was mind blowing.
+Hollis Prince Thanks much!!!
The lick 53 seconds in kills me 🤘🏻🎸
That solo was rippin'
Man you are soooooo goooood
Hey Pete, great demo as usual informative and killer riffs, just wondering where u placed the univibe on the signal chain. Cheers
Do most people use a Cloudlifter or Mogaine with ribbons to get a little better gain?
4:52 is it kind of shotgun microphone? thanks for the reviews. great video and you are an amazing guitar player. subbed to your channel.
Nice playing. You think the VR1 would be good for classical singing?
Thanks for the video.
natural and fat tone !! great playing as usual :)
Pete - when you soloed the acoustic part, did that have any of the direct signal mixed in or was that all RN 17?
vr1 do you think is good for live group or orchestra recording?VERY nice solo..
Звук конечно, шикарный, мягкий и детальный
How are you getting the stereo sound with only one mic on the cab and acoustic? Are you double tracking and panning? I feel like I’m missing something
Pete, do you prefer speed knobs or top hat knobs on your Les Pauls? Do you have a preference?
Hi Pete, are you still using these mics?
use the VR1 (set) as lot... glad I never bought a RN17.. I simply cant think of a situation in my studio where I would say: HEY! thats the mic I need for this!.. VR1: at least once a week.
I see you have the RN17 pointing almost right at the sound hole. Some folks choose to capture the sound at the 12th fret. Thoughts on this? Is pick noise more of an issue at the sound hole?
+Michael Makowski I go for a large diaphragm condenser or ribbon on the sound hole and a pair of small diaphragm condensers, one on the 12th fret and the other pointing more at the bridge. Then blend to taste.
That pinky finger was approaching Gilbert speeds in the opening piece. :D
That is some badass lead playing!!!!! The acoustic sounded wonderful!!!! did you have any post eq on it when we heard it solod?
+Tavares Project No I purposely used no eq on this, and just a hint of compression.
+Pete Thorn wow. that's incredible
What preamp did you use or do you recommend on the VR1?
I'm a bit confused why the sound is stereo on both the acoustic and the rhythm electric later in the video. Are we listening to two takes hard panned or ... What is creating the doubled/stereo effect in each case? Love the video but would be ideal to just hear a single take of a mic.
Without listening back yes I’m sure I probably double tracked the parts and hard panned them
@@PeteThorn, no worries. It's always just easier to hear in mono/single take. Love your videos though!
Damn! Sometimes you just have to get the shred out!
Pete...what preamp did you use on the condenser mics?
+Dale Schmitt It's the BAE 1073-stye pre
That flippin blew my mind dude! Do you have any records released?
+Yngwie Nakamura He has a CD called Guitar Nerd you should check it out.
+drunyon08 Thanks
Thanks man, yes there's my guitar need album and some singles I have on iTunes
These mikes should sound good I've just looked up how much they cost wow
Amazing intro as always, but the electric seemed to not be mixed loud enough to my ears.
Solo or rhythm? Tbf, the acoustic and Les Paul are blended nicely, whilst the solo guitar sits on top of both of them... It's a great mix imo
@ :52 tho
Try the ribbon on acoustic. You'll be surprised
