    Nice video. Can you please make a video on the high/low structure. Thanks :)

    Coach, can you talk about conditionig for soccer? How to get players to be sharp all 90 minutes

      My name is Sean, you're welcome to call me by my first name :). My answer would be the same for any sport: analyse the demands of the game (stopwatch and notepad, studies, video footage, talk to coaches and players, etc..), then reverse engineer the sport and build towards it from the starting point you have (player/team).

    Great video. How would you scale the interval distances or duration for rowing or biking? My podiatrist has advised me to avoid running so these are my options. Thanks.

      Sorry for the late reply - I missed your comment the first time around! I Think the repeatability is the most important factor. So you need to organise your work on the bike/rower so that you can repeat the same outputs each time from the first to the last interval.

    Thank for video! How would you incorporate this into a CoVid return to play program. Students are coming back to school, probably haven’t been working out and need to build their fitness up

      Hey Joseph, I would simply start with short distances and low total session volume. Something like 2x8 reps of 40-60 meters with 30-40sec rest between reps. Do 2-3 sessions around that volume and build from there! Better be safe than sorry when it comes to return to play

    Do you think you can stay in Zone 2 while doing tempo runs?

    • @Upsidestrength
      @Upsidestrength  Před 11 měsíci

      I think you have to consider tempo runs are alternating between Z3 and Z1. So technically it’s not Z2. But it will build similar qualities IMo

    Dope stuff. Succinct Sean. Would you say Coach Francis adapted tempo runs for track and field athletes? I also found Dr. Jack Daniels as the creator of tempo runs. Thoughts?

      Hey mate thanks for the comment. Not sure where it started out very honestly. I now see those “short tempos” (versus the Zone 3 tempos that cyclists and runners do) as “intermittent Z2 work”. I have yet to test this with my measuring tools to see what the physiological response is, but my assumption is that the overall effect is the same. Hope that makes some sense

      @@Upsidestrength LOL dude there so many names to the same methods. It's tedious lol. Thanks for replying, be well.

    Hi Sean, wanting to implement that at the start of preseason with a field sport team to build up their aerobic capacity. How would you assess top speed for each player?
    I am not too keen on the idea of doing a week of testing straight back from holidays before starting the preseason program

    • @Upsidestrength
      @Upsidestrength  Před 3 lety

      I always worked by feel (7/10 or 70% effort MAX on the tempo runs). The first rep should be identical to the last rep of the session in terms of technique, fluidity, speed, etc...

    Great video? How do you calculate 70% intensity?

      Hey Paul thanks for your comment. Take your top speed for the distance and multiply it by .7 👍

      @@Upsidestrength Divide by 0.7?

    • @Upsidestrength
      @Upsidestrength  Před 3 lety

      @@AnimalMotherify you can multiply it by .7 or divide it by 1.42 😉 either one works

      Ok so if I run 100M in 15 seconds than my tempos should be 21.4 seconds?
      Sorry maths isn't my thing 🙈
      Great videos on this and speed, I am going to add these to my weekly training 💪
      Just did the tempos this morning, heart rate was below 160 BPM throughout so hopefully pacing was right
