- Abandoned McDonald's - Mercer, Pa. Closed for awhile, if you're in the area and want something to eat, your only choice is Burger King, the restaurant across the street or whatever the gas station has available.

There is no obligation and I'm not asking you to! All proceeds go toward expenses involved in travelling to film for you guys. I do not make a profit. Thank you!
I worked at that Mcdonald's, I was sixteen years old at the time and I worked there until it closed down. This video brought back memories, from taking orders, emptying the trash bins and taking my breaks right outside of the rear door by the drive through. Neat!
When he said McGONEald's, I almost choked on my foooood hahahahaha
Hey thanks for the shout out! Much appreciated!! Thanks for filming, I love your perspective on it.
Back in the day it would tale a lot for a McDonald's to close
I am a current employee of McDonald’s (2020) and (3:07) those are really really old school menu boards those don’t exist anymore as we have menu boards that are digital and probably have Intel compute sticks on them or signage board computers mounted to the back of them. Corporate nowadays (2020) will just send the file to all the computers a.k.a. Menu board screen
and they automatically update every month probably. With those ones(3:07) we had to wait every month for corporate to mail us our new menus and every day like I said at 12 o’clock we go and turn the crank signifying it’s lunchtime and you can no longer grab breakfast because at that time when those menus existed 24hr breakfast didn’t exist yet. This is super old because it was way before the renovations are happening being a current McDonald’s employee (2020) not giving the location for safety reasons but of the Syracuse New York area
The quest for food continues.I'm glad you checked for pedestrians. I liked the pop up things for fun facts. Reminds me of Pop-Up video on VH1 back in the 90s.
I live in East Tennessee been here almost 7 years. We get snow but no rock salt just sand to treat the roads. We get usually 1 bad snowstorm and that’s it. This year so far we’ve had a dusting of snow. lived in Ohio most of my life salt and snow are a part of life in the North.
I was sad about this closing because this is where I would stop to get breakfast on my way home to North Carolina
This location closed in 2017 and has been vacant since. They keep saying someone is buying and replacing the restaurant, but I don’t think I’ve ever seen a contractor there. (I grew up right up the road.)
Thanks for the info. It appeared to be closed awhile. I know I'm not from this immediate area but from travelling through Mercer up and down 19 and 79 as frequently as I do, I couldnt see why anyone would want to move here.
And I dont mean that in a bad way. It's just dead in that spot. N businesses from what I remember until you go up the road a bit.
WallieB26 small town Merica 👍 travel north up 19 about a mile you’ll find the courthouse and town square , nice little town
@@Chukalux77 Rt 19, rt 80 and 79 all within a few miles great location for a wendys, ect....the town in just up the road and they would pull alot of folks down to it.
@@Chukalux77Nice wouldnt be the first word I would use to describe this place-
You might not notice at first but the roof has been de-McDonalded. That's S.O.P. for McDonald's when they leave one of their older signature double-inverted mansard roof restaurants (those built c.1968-2006). Even if it's assumed it will be knocked down, the first thing they do after they close (after obliterating all signage) is to modify the roof (they fill in the 'valley' of the inverted mansard with plywood to just make it a standard mansard roof). Pizza Hut has a thing about that too (a lot of places with trademark buildings), but there's only so much you can do to hide trapezoid windows. That roof line is to McDonald's what the trapezoid/triangle windows were to Pizza Hut, it's (or was) part of the brand.*
This particular McDonald's is likely from 1979-1982 based on the design (the black ceiling grid was unique to some at that time). Probably closer to '82 based on the tile. But that's all original. It's been closed a while; there have been two chain-wide renovation sprees since 2004 and this one doesn't look to have got either one.
*The funny thing about PIzza Hut and McDonald's is that when you break it down architecturally, they basically used the same roof concept in different proportions (like practically everybody in the mid-70s was doing). Ever ride the Corkscrew at Cedar Point? The station is a Pizza Hut roof. Ever stop at some rest areas on US Interstates built in the '70s? 95% chance it had a Pizza Hut roof too.
Look me square in the eye and tell me these aren't Pizza Hut knock-offs.

In 1978, Cedar Point one-upped it and built the Gemini station. It was this roof form but in frosted bubble glass (like those commonly installed in the rear panels of vans at the time). This is widely considered by architectural philosophers and researchers to be the pinnacle of the 1970s faux mansard roof design, also incorporating a steel space frame which itself was another thing found in only the most cosmopolitan 1970s buildings. Nobody, not even McDonald's with their early-90s high-glazing restaurants, had ever topped this feat to date.

Great comment! A friend of mine told me, back in the 80s that in the rare cases that a McDonalds closes a location, it's in the owner's contract that it MUST BE torn down! Clearly that is no longer the case! You sound like a guy who knows what happened! Can you share anything about that?
Our town still has the original 1970's McDonald's still intact and running.
Where?!

Awesome Red Green Shout-out! I too grew up watching Red Green, every Saturday night on Kentucky's version of PBS
Also I passed right by this place back in May and didn't even notice.
I live in the same township your in, in the vid. This mc diddys shut its ass down because the franchise owner would not tie into the new sewer system and wanted to stay on the nasty residential septic system. so we kicked his ass out, and told him tough shit.
I live right behind that McDonald’s, if you want any information on it please let me know!
When did this one closed?
SCOTTY BEHM it closed in mid-late 2017 and replacement restaurants have been rumored ever since then. Nothing has been negotiated yet as far as I know, so it’s been sitting vacant for at least 2.5 years now.
Not often I see abandoned McD. I had one that looked somewhat like this, but it was maller and got the upgrade.
I was surprised to explore this let alone the one 10 minutes from my house! And as fast as I did too!
It's been McDisguised
LOL!
Remember what Red Green says: if the women don't find you handsome, they can at least find you handy.
And a side note... NC shuts down for snow but we usually get ice instead.
the "fun facts" made the video even more enjoyable. they were funny.
I went to college in Youngstown Ohio and had lots of friends that lived in Western PA. I went to this McDonald’s 16 years ago. Crazy. Thanks for the upload. Would love to see more area videos. Not sure how far you go but I’m sure there’s plenty of Y town places. Haha
You're luvin it Wallie! 😂😁😀
Red green is a hoot for sure. Been watching episodes on YT. Glad to see the Z is still treating you well.
Small game season open until Feb 29. It leap year in February and superbowl sunday and GROUNDHOG DAY are on the same sunday this week
Yeah, it's going to be a busy month! I may attend Groundhog Day.
Red Green show was great 👍
This is cool. Looks like it been closed since the 90's.. I don't see anything updated..I do remember the old drive thru red letters.
Being next door from Burger King must have brought this McD's its death.
Surprising usually BK will close not McDs. My guess a McDs nit too far away or a bad location. Maybe the BK is easier to access.
@@kurtwetzel154 I think another issue is at play. This McDonalds is easier to get to than the Burger King.
Could be a variety of factors that we don't know about, such as the lease running out and the owner choosing not to renew, eviction, etc.
Between the two I'd rather go to Burger King.
@@alexandermakrianis same here. BK has flame broiled burgers which taste better and are bigger than anything McDonald's has
Love red green. He is on CZcams no w. I feel like I should get the cars reference but can't remember.
I'm impressed at how many Americans know who about Red Green.
Awesome video guys rock
The new McDonald's building designs these days are nothing but ugly shoe boxes
I used to live in Leesburg, right out side of Grove City and Mercer. Years and years ago 15+yrs. And that McDonald's was very busy. The big parking area was for truckers and also grey hound would always make a stop there when they had a bus stop in Mercer. When they closed the bus stop and made the closest one in zelienople that probably took some business away. But this did surprise me when I saw ur video it being closed because the place was back in the day always super busy esp with the truckers and travel buses
I loved the video wallie 💕💙.
Red Green Saturday nights on QED. From Canada
Pretty cool what you do. I live in Mercer,PA and now I work at the shells gas station right beside it. I'm a Skateboarder,an Im starting to clean up that section on the other side where you said you would bottom out,an planning on building a DIY skate park an I'd really like to turn that building into a skate shop an call it either "I-80 skates" or "inter-skate 80" but yea sorry you didn't get your breakfast that day 😆 but was pretty cool to see a CZcamsr explore this place in my hometown 👍
Hey Wallie you should explore abandoned railroads.
The 2001-2010 McDonald’s type of mood.
More abandoned McDonald's are popping up. Great vlog! I like the cool graphic additions you added! 👍😎❤️
I went to Shaler yesterday the door was cracked open I swear
When I saw a Wallie vid: **instant press**
Great find
I love the number of cars that passed by during this video!
I would like to find an old McDonald’s restaurant from the early 1980s with all of their equipment including the registers. I hate the new McDonald’s, even though the modern contemporary interior of the dinning area’s are cool looking. I miss the older McDonald’s the way it used to be, as QSC the much better than now. The old cooking computers, the shoots where you wrap the burgers from behind the bin, and bring it up through the shoot. Plus the old Courier computer terminals cash registers were more cooler than today. I miss the old McDonald’s of the past as I used to work at many years ago as a teenager.
9:41 N on the sign board
LOL!
@@WallieB26 The N must stand for No one must see this, or Nobody shall find out this used to be a McDonalds
Mcgonalds 😂😂😂
Who knows how many more abandoned McD's are still standing across the country.
Looks like a somewhat large building, probably abandoned because it wouldn't have been able to be properly converted to that 'shoebox' style that's common these days.
There's an abandoned McDonald's in Au Gres Mi. The building is still there.
My mom recently moved to that area and she had a hankering for McDs. I just assumed that place was still opened but she was so disappointed when it wasn't. I hadn't been in mercer recently and never eat that food but I was shocked it wasn't open. She had to settle with Burger King.
Did it close cause they built a new one or just close that location
The closest open McDonald’s is by the Grove City Premium Outlets, which is only a few miles from there.
Love the funny pictures included when talking about stuff
Man, I sure loved all of the "fun facts" captions you did for this one! Keep that going! Also, we should start a GoFundMe for Wallie so he can finally get some food...
"You think by now though after exploring all these abandoned restaurants, I'd be anorexic at this point" LOL
This place has been closed for several years now. There is an old school Burger King next door that’s still open!
Hey liz what's the asking price for this property
Thanks for that visual on what bacon looks like! You know, for those of us that have never seen it before! 🤣
I love all your videos Wallie. Keep up the awesome work.
Walkie when you went to cross roads diner I go to the school right there
There is a former McDonald's close to me here in Lubbock which closed & moved to a new location some time ago which I thought one day do a video. Of course the location is also on a busy street too. Anyhow back to your video Wallie.
All the equipment is still in there. It's not been gutted. Cool
We ate there last year
Accidentally got confused I kept thinking this was the one by Grove City Premium Outlets that's the one I ate at
May not have ever eaten at Mercer PA location
Will this old McDonald’s be remodeled into one of their modern shoebox stores?
No. It's closed.
Free Time Explorations That’s odd how that happened since the restaurant chain is still so big and successful over some of its fast food competitors.
That was a hot spot on Saturday nights when the races were over, the teams from the dirt track would stop
Interesting how this McDonald’s has the same flooring as my local Burger Kings
Awesome video like always!
Florescent bulbs are high in fiber.
When is it coming back
Its closed for good. There's a for lease sign in the window
Like Wallie, the only time I eat McDonald's is for Breakfast. Don't care for them otherwise. Sausage McMuffin With Egg, and Hash Rounds !!!
Great this video 👍👍👍
I live near this one. My friends all worked here when we were kids. The story I heard was the owner who owned another near by would not upgrade the sewer system that was going through near by. He was a cheap fuck cause it had to be the worst parking lot ever. The holes were brutal and he never would get it paved. Doesnt shock me that its closed. The bitch is we need something there because your only choice off that exit is burger king.
that sign IS pretty cool!!
nice video love the ch good work wallieb26
Those guys are hunting ducks to eat, since MC Donald's is closed on them. LOL!!!😂😂😂
That particular McDonald's likely closed many, many years ago. I don't see any order kiosks, and I see the old-fashioned menu boards behind the counter instead of flat panel displays.
one thing for sure, that place has not seen no kind of upgrade in it's years of operation....
Great video as usual, and I subscribed to slacking packing Channel as well, and made sure to turn on notifications. Looking forward to the next video, thanks again, stay awesome
This one looks like it was a jack in the box at one time
Red Green is an awesome show!
WallieB26 for President
Nice to see a Burger King survive as they seem to be falling.
Thanks again Wallie! Wow thats definetly a 90s Micky D! Glad you did this video!
Wow Mercer PA is that near Sharon home of Quaker Streak & Lube - Awesome wings!!
10:54 that could be good for merch: "Have a Kmartlicious day"
But hopefully you can use the Kmart logo on that, if you gonna make merch
The light bulbs are still the same way in the order sign. I have a pic of that. And the red order screen. It had a small McDonald’s sticker on the left side. In your video it’s faded now.
Who is here after his revist video?
5/20/2024
Thier hunting for wild big macs!😂👍
“If women don’t find you handsome, they should at least find you handy.” 😁
I grew up in Mercer but exited for boomtown Raleigh in the 80s. I ate there a few times as a kid. Was near the interstate I think? Reflective of the rest of that area - frozen in time.
9:18 That Shell gas station over there used to be a BP.
The big lot was for truck parking.I was suprised it closed as it is right off 80.It has been closed about 2 years.
ironically truckers here use a ex big lot parking lot for resting too
I really like your videos. I'm a big fan of abandoned place. My favorite are abandoned railroads.
I was there last week - Nice little town -
A McDonalds just closed on route 4 west in Paramus NJ USA
This McDonald's has been closed since i was 15 years old and im 20 now i remember going to that McDonald's as a child all the time it was my favorite place to eat
The McDonalds closed in 2017 probably because of the Burger King next to it although usually McDonalds is more popular and it would've been the Burger King that closed but the Burger King used to be an old style before they changed it to the new style.
kings video soon i can feel it he is going to drive in grove city Mercer, Pa is 15 min to grove city
Kings was replaced by another restaurant already
I am not surprised this one closed - I went there years ago and it had a VERY limited menu
I grew up in Mercer, and this was the first McDonald’s I ever went to.
Ate there many times after spending a Saturday in Volant and Grove City. Older place, but never crowded
Love your adanden show.
Wallie its great when you get to go inside. Makes the video funner and better quality.
I've got an idea. How about I fix the inside roof parking alot drive thru and sign so this McDonalds restaurant with the double mastered red roof would look new again. I will also do the same thing to the other abandoned McDonalds restaurants as well.
We used to go their all the time. It’s been closed for years and now they have the building for sale
Wally they were like nobody's getting in today sorry
