I'm glad you explained that the lid was not made of plastic. First thing I told my wife when this video started was they have a great canteen but a crappy plastic lid. This lid should do a great job. This thing was really thought out well. I love when a company uses the input from the guys who actually use their product instead of some college nerd who will never even use their product in the woods.
I bought this kit, the hanger and lid recently. It is well made and good for its intended use. If you want to hike super lite and replace gear every few years buy aluminum but if you want a kit that allows taking 20 extra minutes to boil water vs. filtering and a lifetime of use this kit is great. I will be using this for my weekend - 2 week trips this season, leaving the filter at home and hike with boil time, cook time and campsite enjoyment in mind.
I understand Dave…Just don't want you to take anything personally from others opinions that's all. You have definitely got your shit together and have been a true inspiration to us all with your products and knowledge!
I just spent a weekend in the snow with Great Lakes Bushcraft using the pathfinder ultimate cook system. We had to melt snow and ice for any water we might want to use. Seeing a kit with a larger capacity would cut clean water production in half at least! Having those exter "few" ounces in the field will truely make a huge difference in the time you have to spend boiling water. Great job guys. I can't wait for this to be up for sale.
this is so great. ive spent many hours purchasing the older aluminum canteen sets cleaning and restoring them and still not happy with them. this is definitely something im willing to purchase
Hi Dave, great product demo. Sorry, no canteen hanger seen. I have used the military cup, canteen and stove for forty years of service and love it. Now you have gone and improved it! Love that lid. I put a face cloth in as a pot holder and attached a small can opener on a nylon cord. Initially the price seem steep; whoever quality S/S is a once in a lifetime purchase. Great value package, well done to you all, Greg
Beautiful bottle cup & stove set! The new cap is awesome, the Simpson and Triplett analog meters were made from bakelight and extremely rugged. Can't wait to be getting mine, thanks Dave, you and Rob.
True, Dave very true…for some reason it looked larger in the video, more of a distance from the cup. I'm still looking forward to getting it though. Can't wait! Thanks for getting back to me so soon.
there you go dave these canteen cooker's are a great little carry on when you go on hike's and jurneys in the woods.. if i did not already have one i would want this one.. looks like a well engineered set you guys really did well with the work you did..
The best canteen kit I've ever seen! I believe it's less expensive than the BCB Crusader too and appears to be much better quality. I can't wait to get my hands on one.
I have a couple of the Pathfinder bottle systems. But in truth they tend to get left in the truck while I sling a couple of canteen systems over my shoulder. I love this and will definitely be adding a couple to my gear. Thanks Guys!
That's how I run my kit. Heavy Cover, Inc. lid in the bottom, then the kit on top and Vargo Spork on the side since it curves nicely with the curve of the canteen. Then I roll up a Heatsheets space blanket in the canteen cover and hold it down with the bikini. In the side pouches I have a ferro rod, Mini Inferno, Zippo, and knife. Toss on a paracord lanyard or strap and you have the 5 C's. :) Nice upgrade to the silicon seal from the old cork ones. I like the wide mouth too. :) Great work guys!
Nice looking product! Price is a little too steep for this common man right now but who knows what the future holds. Thank you for all the videos! You are doing great things. God bless.
This kit is actually *almost* perfect for me. I already own a original stove stand, but I'll buy this in a heartbeat. The only downside is the cup handle. I'm a fan of the buttlerfly handle that clips into place. I know it has been tested, but I can't help to be affraid the handle you chose will unclip (with time and use) and the water or food will drop. I really do hope a buttlefly handle version will be made in the future.
Dave I'm looking forward to a working/cooking demo before the kit goes on sale in April. It's a nice bundle at a fair price for any scout, hiker and camper.
You're excited?!? I'm excited! Way to go Dave, it looks awesome. Of course I already have the complete bottle set from the Pathfinder store...NOW I'll just HAVE to get this as well. Keep up the good work. I have learned so much from your vids. Thank you.
Bakelite also served as an amazing material for the Russians in their AK-74 magazines. They are revered even today as being a very high quality magazine. Solid material choice for a cap.
Hey Dave great stuff. Yet last year i bought two old world German mess kits. stainless canteens heavy duty and the only thing i wish they did have was that wide mouth. Take care
I am very excited about this set up. I already ordered mine, it'll be here 06 June. I can't wait! I'm like a kid Christmas eve! I also ordered the Deluth bag from Dave. I'll let ya know what I think Thursday!
When you price out all the pieces the canteen itself is quite inexpensive for what it is. Canteens ride better on the hip then nalgenes and if you drop them on a hill they wont roll. If you put some esbit fuel cubes in one side and water tablets in the other its a self contained water/cooking kit that doesn't take up much space. Also wrapping some reflective or glow in the dark tape around the cap would help if you dropped the cap on the forest floor in the dark. You could also pull the seal off and insert a thin disc magnet under the cap so while you drink you could stick the cap to the side of the canteen. The thickness of the steel doesn't matter much because if its full of water, the water acts as a heat sink absorbing alot of the heat.
No doubt this will be a top seller. From my research, this looks to be the highest quality kit ever offered anywhere/anytime. But, it's not quite right to call it unique, as there are several Chinese made SS canteens already available on ebay etc. both standard and wide mouth (different from this, of course), in fact probably by the same manufacturer. This kind of shows that Dave and Rob have gone above and beyond, making it just right, instead of just re-branding the ones already available.
That canteen was well thought out, design, I got to say one thing Dave all the product you avdvertise very well designed for there perpose and very high quality. all your idems are made to last. I love the knives and the take down bow there on my wish list
Just an observation, the canteen cap needs a way to "dummy cord" it. The set up on the Pathfinder bottle has where you can tie it off or put a D ring...need that for this one too guys! Nothing worse than loosing the lid to your canteen....
looks fantastic I am definitely going to get one i have been using a WW2 cup and canteens for some time but this looks alot nicer and i have been afraid to put my canteen in the fire cause it looks like it is two pieces solderd together and i was worried about ruining the seam
like the kit. one thing i would love to see and i know it would cost more is an option for a nice leather pouch for the kit. it would be a first i have never seen one except homemade. but alot of us prefer leather and i think it would add a nice upgrade
Id sure be interested in a cover like that that would fit my current military stainless stell canteen set and heavy cover lid. not sure i want a bigger setup that thing has to be heavy full of water. Still if i wasnt already hooked up it sure looks nice!
LOOKS ALOT LIKE THE GERMAN CANTEEN (IN STYLE) THE ONE THAT COMES WITH TWO CUPS .NEVER THOUGHT U COULD IMPROVE ON THE G.I. CUP IT WAS THE BEST,BUT U DID . THAT HEAVY LID IS LIKE THE WHITE BUFFALO . NEVER IN STOKE U GOTTA START SELLING THEM ! AND IF U DO PUT ME DOWN FOR 3 .LOVE THE VIDS KEEP THEM COMING U GOT MY SUPORT . I BUY FROM UR STORE AND WILL KEEP SUPPORTING SUCH AN IMPORTANT CAUSE
I think that's a good price, It's not just a canteen it also comes with a cup, stove and cover. As a comparison a 40 oz Klean Kanteen is $23, GSI cup $10, Condor Cover $17, and an Esbit stove is $10; prices from Amazon 60 total. So 20 bucks more to buy a complete compact system from a company I trust. I think that's a no brainer.
And you can put a couple D rings on the handle to put a stick in and hold/pull the cup. Kind of like a marshmallow fork keeps you away from heat a bit.
Awesomnessss. Essentially the WW2 kit on steroids. The wide mouth is a huge advantage for stuffing snow. This 'super sized' version is fortunately not designed for the pistol belt or utility belt as it might be a bit heavy on the hip??? One more improvement might be an attachment point that allows the canteen to be suspended over the fire. I hang my WW2 stainless steel canteen from the caps attachment point after removing the cap from the split ring. I need buy your steel lid for that cup.
jus a suggestion: as either and extra or and option, there should be an alternative cap made from some sort of metal so the whole thing can go on the fire to 1) boil faster and 2) not have to worry about spilling 3) nothing gets in there you dont want to such as ash, dirt, or other food particles that are cooking over the fire. it could be made to fit on the pouch side or and alternative to the abs plastic. Looks awesome tho!
We used Bakelite on x-ray cassettes in the 50s, 60s and 70s. You can take a jackhammer to it. I never saw one broken and they were dropped a lot. It is extremely heavy duty. This is best kit of it's kind I've ever seen. It is cool looking as well functional. Kudos. I love the price, too. Will both the plastic and steel covers fit in the carrier on both designs?
Some people are just never happy. :/ I have personally been waiting for something like this for a long time. N.O.S. 'mint' CRS canteens run a LOT if you are determined enough to find them.
Looks really awesome Dave. Though its kinda nitpicking a really fine product, I would have really liked it more if there was some kind of cord attachment from the lid to the carrier or something. When you're wearing gloves, its cold, its wet and its dark, its nerve-wrecking to know I could slip up and drop the lid, and lose such a critical piece of the gear.
Great Stuff Dave, been waiting for someone to come out with a complete kit like this. All you see is cheap welded bottles and old WWII over priced kits and this is by far the best I've seen to date. Will be ordering them in April for my Husband & I. Great stuff, when are you returning to S. Florida to teach another class? Thanks ER
That kit rules!. At that price those kits should fly off the shelves. I wish you guys had worked on these earlier in the year before I bought the nalgeen kit. I'll just have to buy this one anyway.
Dave, update these yokels on the difference between a thermo-plastic and a thermo-setting plastic with respect to whether or not it melts. PLEASE! Viva Bakelite!
if there is water inside you are not going to ruin any soldering for a long time. Just make sure you don't put it empty or forget it on the fire until the water evaporates
sweet canteen setup But... How about a standard sized stainless canteen with a wider mouth that will be compatible with standard GI cup, stove, and cover?
Both Klean Kanteen and MSR make a Stainless-Steel Wide Mouth Water Bottle. Granted there is no "Kit" that they can nest in, but they are about half the price of the bottle and kit shown here in the video. Go to REI.com to check them out.
ohh man, if would have known about this i might have held off on the bottle and cup one that i just purchase from your store, awesome product and improving on the old canteen and cup was a very good idea, was thinking of getting the canteen shop one but the "plastic" canteen made a no sell, not enough info is out there or been done on the long term effects of plastic nor can you really boil in it.

What is the total weight? I haven't gotten any canteen kits yet because I just didn't like what was available..............until now or April. This is what I have been wanting. Thank-you Dave for bring this out.
Can't say for this kit, but I have the canteen stove for the GI canteen, and the thing could probably take a bullet for you. It is VERY thick. I think more people will have a problem with the weight of the kit, not its durability.
I'm usually sold on your products when you use the term "bullet proof"! A WISE idea to be able to carry the lid and spork in that container i always hated having to carry the lid separately. Is it possible to stack another mug on top with that system as i always like to carry to cups or a way to carry the bottle holder to keep the whole system complete. Great vid guys THANKS and GOD bless.
Dave, The cup handle is questionable, it looks like it is going to be more difficult to hold compared to the original handles...and why design the stove with thinner steel? It doesn't make sense seeing how it is going to be subjected to extreme heating and cooling. Will this new design last as long? I love the wide mouth design on the canteen, great idea!
I'm glad you explained that the lid was not made of plastic. First thing I told my wife when this video started was they have a great canteen but a crappy plastic lid. This lid should do a great job. bought one, used it...worth every penny...thanks for taking the time to develop it.

Outstanding!! So glad y'all made this. I'm a big fan of the old school canteen/ cup setup. It's a very versatile system. Great job guys
Just received mine today and I am very happy with the ket...Thank you David and selfrelianceoutfitters👍🏽👍🏽👍🏽
Nice looking product! Price is a little too steep for this common man right now but who knows what the future holds. Thank you for all the videos! You are doing great things. God bless.
Heck of a setup, another great product, thanks Dave and the Canteen shop

Wow Dave you guys really hit this one out of the Park. I will be ordering one of this for sure
Glad to see this out at last. You and Rob did a great job on this man, way to go.

Thank you Dave & Rob for great gear that Rocks!!
Hey Dave great stuff. Yet last year i bought two old world German mess kits. stainless canteens heavy duty and the only thing i wish they did have was that wide mouth. Take care

The Germans in WW2 used Bakelite on their weapons and they are great and long lasting. I love the idea and I am going to get one.
awesome, good to see Rob again to.

Dave & Rob, that is a very nice set up. Thank you !
Bakelite is bad ass stuff. There is a lot of vintage cookware that has Bakelite. They loved to use it for silverware handles and jewelry too.
And you can put a couple D rings on the handle to put a stick in and hold/pull the cup. Kind of like a marshmallow fork keeps you away from heat a bit.
Great idea going with the single-handled cup too!
Awesomnessss. Essentially the WW2 kit on steroids. The wide mouth is a huge advantage for stuffing snow. Fantastic! I want one as soon as they are available!
Also, thanks again for everything. Hope to see ya soon.
I love you man
I can see a 55gal liner in one side of the pouch and some cordage and a knife in the other
Survival kit go Boom

Kit looks pretty impressive. Thanks for the work and the videos.
bakelite is also used on firearm furniture too. i think you should mention that in future marketing
This would be great for making ramen noodles in! Really like the wide mouth top.
that looks like some good kit to me !
the lid reminds me of the 58 water bottle from the uk
I'm looking forward to these being available! They look like they're great quality!
Some people are just never happy. :/ I have personally been waiting for something like this for a long time. N.O.S. 'mint' CRS canteens run a LOT if you are determined enough to find them.
If all goes well - I'll be able to afford one about the time they become available!
I LIKE it!
Man I like the new canteen set. I hope u get some time to talk about foot wear . An update would be appreciated.
Thanks ER
Good job bringing it all together. Nice kit.
Darn! i just ordered a canteen cup set like the one on the left a week ago! should have waited.
Looks like a well thought out product!
I may have to pick one of those up. Nice design.
sweet canteen setup
But...
How about a standard sized stainless canteen with a wider mouth that will be compatible with standard GI cup, stove, and cover?
love the new stuff just wood like to see a pocket on the duluth bag for tablits or fire starting stuff but keep up the good work thanks
brilliant. been waiting for one of these for a while now
Both Klean Kanteen and MSR make a Stainless-Steel Wide Mouth Water Bottle.
You can find it on the Pathfinder store
I can't see to be able to post links here, but here's the name : Duluth Canteen Bag
Dave,
Have you tried the Kelly Kettle yet? They are made out in Ireland and Scotland and there are only 1 or 2 distributers here in the USA but the design is incredibly simple and might be something you could encorporate in products such as this. I ordered one and can boil 30 oz of water in under 90 seconds. Check it out as a bit of R&D. Thanks for all you do man.
Looks like a good piece of kit for sure.
I have never been a canteen guy, but I think I want this one. Bad.
Dave,
Great product with well thought out details. Was there a reason you didn't place stainless steel in the lid (in addition to the silicone seal). That way the water would be touching only the steel (no silicone). Though a completely different product (with less rugged functional applications), this is the way the Klean Kanteen Stainless bottles are made.
Thanks.
You should use metal triangle rings and clips for that harness imo.
Nice kit and a great price too. I'm not sure if this has been asked and I didn't hear it said or read through all the comments and questions, but what if fire isn't an option and water treatment tablets are used with the extra 7.5 ounces? I'd hate to use 2 tablets for an extra 7.5 ounces if I didn't have to, but will one be enough? I like the extra water but I want to be able to treat it as well as boil it if need be.
nice. i was lookin for a good canteen set. starting to get a little collection of things. your videos always have helped , i don't usually leave comments but i watch a lot of yur vids been subbed for almost 1 year and a half i thnk
Kleen kanteen wide mouths fit most water filters like the MSR filters.
Finally got this setup, and LOVE it!
And btw, just to let you know. I follow your work and value your advise immensly. I have only found one thing I dislike (cant fucking stand really) and its the subject of aluminum. Other than that, you are an amazing guide on this journey called bushcraft. Thanks for all the info!!!
Preordered. This is lookin like a great piece of kit.
Cool I was wondering why I could never find a a stainless steel canteen only aluminum which makes the water taste bad in my opinion.
Hey brother. I definitely want one of those!!!
Ya know…I have to agree with you Captbizzarro, absolutely!
Looks great. I'm getting one asap. Nice job guys
Great idea guys. I'm sure they'll sell fast!
I'm usually sold on your products when you use the term "bullet proof"! A WISE idea to be able to carry the lid and spork in that container i always hated having to carry the lid separately. Excellent product, nice initiative! But why the canteen is 39.5oz. and don´t standard 1lt for water treatment?
Dave,
The cup handle is questionable, it looks like it is going to be more difficult to hold compared to the original handles...and why design the stove with thinner steel? It doesn't make sense seeing how it is going to be subjected to extreme heating and cooling. Will this new design last as long?
I love the wide mouth design on the canteen, great idea!
Awesome set, very cool. Cant wait to get it. Thanks!
I really like the Duluth Carrier better that the other carriers...
Finally! Been waiting for someone to do this, i'd order now if I could! Thanks Dave and Rob!
NEVERMIND, I see you answered @ 14:40 . Thanks!
