Now let's review a captivating film about rival magicians, directed by Christopher Nolan. Here's my review for THE PRESTIGE!
#ThePrestige - Zábava
As someone who's seen the Prestige, I appreciate your vagueness.
Prestige is genius movie, one of the greatest screenplays ever written and direction is great. The entire thing is like a magic trick, if you havent seen it, man, you are missing on one of the greatest here.
The entire film is a 2 hour long magic trick done by Christopher Nolan
"Do you love me?"
"Not today"
Loved that line 😍
... No.
Bale delivered that line very brilliantly.
Literary got chills from just reading and remembering
Whew...profound. There’s so much nuance. No overacting. You felt that answer.
“The audience KNOWS the truth. The world is simple, miserable, solid all the way through. But if you can fool them, even for a second, then you could make them wonder. And then you got to see something. Really special. You really don’t know do you? It was the look on their faces.”
I really like how he is talking about film as well
Jonah Nolan is the best writer in Hollywood
Yes this is also talking about that "leap"
@@PrimeTime__ not after Westworld season 3 :(
@@TheTonyEntertainment you know he didn't write the entire season on his own right
This is one of those movies that, when you watch it for the 2nd time, you've got a totally different set of eyes on.
Exactly
Yeah, gets better with every rewatch.
This and shutter island
@@themastermyron23 Shutter Island doesn't compare because you could very easily guess the twist from the beginning and then it just ruins the rest of it.
I was a teenager hanging out at my friend's house one day when his mom randomly took us to the movies. Never happened before. Never happened again. The movie was The Prestige. I didn’t know anything about it. Never saw a single poster or trailer. Went in completely blind. Probably the most memorable movie-going experience of my life. I was completely floored.

"Have you considered the cost of such a machine?"
"The price is not a problem."
"...Perhaps not, but have you considered the cost?"
Destroy it. It will only bring you misery.
One of the better lines in cinema in my opinion.
JJJ Bowie was absolutely amazing as Tesla. Like Jeremy said, a scene stealer.
Eh calling it one of the best is pretty hyperbolic. It’s clear that jackman’s character has never taken an economics course before haha
@@frankmerker630 When he talks about the cost of the machine, he is not talking about its monetary value.
When Christian Bale say “abracadabra” near the end (you know what I’m talking about). Goddamn does that hit you right in the gut. Expert writing right there.
I was so engaged by the movie that I forgot magicians say “abracadabra”, so when Bale says it at the end and we get the twist.. Jesus.. this movie is phenomenal
When I started watching this video, that was the quote that filled my mind 😅
No spoilers, but the ending of this movie launched me into my first existential crisis when I saw it as a kid....
I totally get u 😩
me and my friend have had a long running debate going on about the ending... the topic: is hugh jackman alive at the end in the water tank ?
The macabre nature of all the tanks... honestly it was haunting as an adult too. It's a powerfully haunting film.
You are not alone
The whole concept of the tanks it's so disturbing since he knows what's going to happen but since the new one won't have those memories he's willing to do it. It's a mess.
The Conflict Between Hugh Jackman Character & Christian Bales Character is Some of the best Character development & Character Arcs you are ever going to see in a Movie, Christopher Nolan is a Genius
Yeah, Nolan is my personal favorite director of all time, and I believe he’s one of if not the best director ever, he doesn’t have a single movie less than an 8/10
@Michael notice how he said "personal favorite director" meaning it is for him. So why are you acting like he's wrong?
Michael no one cares about your opinions
@Michael name one of Nolan’s movies that isn’t absolutely incredible. One, just one single movie.
@Michael why do you disagree? Not looking to argue, just wondering your opinion. What movie is >8/10
One the best movies & endings ever made. Chris Nolan nailed it with The Prestige.
Just imagine, Batman, Wolverine and Black Widow in the same movie

Great ending but memento is an amazing ending as well
Highly underrated movie, arguably Christopher Nolan's masterpiece.
The movie that convinced me that Christopher Nolan is a freaking genius!
For me, that film was 'Memento', and I also consider it to be Nolan's greatest work.
Jamal Uddin I hadn't seen Memento back then. I watched The Prestige at the "interval" between Batman Begins (which greatly impressed me and introduced me to Nolan) and The Dark Knight, and I was completely blown away! But I can feel what you're saying.

Totally...at least twice! One of those movies that gets better after re-watching it the first time
I remember our US history teacher in Sophomore year showed us this movie for the first time in final weeks, against our recommendations for mcu movies. We thought we would hate it, but by the end of the movie we were invested in the movie and shook by the ending

Honestly there was something special with the prestige where i “literally” couldnt take my eyes off the screen. Genuinely one of the most engaging and entertaining movies ever.
Keeping your eyes "on the screen" is figurative in the first place, so you cant "literally" not take your eyes off the screen. If you dont understand what the word "literally"means then you shouldnt use it. Dingus!

It’s actually kind of unreal when you take a step back, and realize how carefully well-written this film is. It’s a shame that it’s been so overlooked in comparison with Nolan’s other work.
So happy to see this review pop up! 🙌🏼
I think the book has some substantial differences in it that they really fixed for the movie. This thing is just so terrific.
weldsj
Yeah, from what I’ve heard, it was very much a Kubrick’s Shining situation. Nolan took some of the more lacklustre elements of the book, and either refined or altered them. All good moves 👍🏼
I love everything about this movie, it doesn't matter how many times I've seen it I've loved every second of every viewing. The prestige is without a doubt in my top 5 movies of all time.
Same
And here's to hoping that TENET will be just as mind-blown as this film was!
Can Nolan do it again? I hope so!
@@Iggystar71 Yes he will, he always does
I hope so, but he's set his bar so high
It also seems like TENET is a fractured version of Momento, where time was separated through story telling, and here it is separated in the plot

Who would have ever thought, that a movie about magicians, in the early 1900's, would be so compelling. That ending, really showed, the true length a human would go, to improve their craft. Very, very, haunting.
Even though this has a 8.5/10 on IMDB, I still think it is an underrated Nolan movie
Eirik Wallin yeah besides the dark knight movies it’s his best movie
Zach Ruggiero I would agree. The Dark Knight is my 3rd favorite movie of all time.

Man...that movie left me speechless! I saw it alone and I was calling all my friends afterwards like “Yo have you seen this movie? It’s amazing!”
The sacrifices that both characters made for the love of the craft of Magic was truly amazing. I will remember this film forever!
Man I ran to my friends too afterwards, but I watched it with fam. I don't know ANYONE that didn't like this movie
And when the one turns around and looks on in horror at the "Prestige Materials" at the end. . . .

The prestige or the illusionist?
The prestige, definitely.

The Illusionist pales in comparison

The prestige is far superior.

1) I remember going to the discount theater with my mom to watch this movie, and I can still recall the conversation that we had afterwards because our minds were blown. We could not believe what we just saw. It's such a different movie experience.
2) This was also the first movie that I ever bought on DVD with my own money. I remember being so excited, thinking about it every single day before it finally came out. I not only wanted to watch the movie multiple times, but I needed the *DVD* for the* SPECIAL FEATURES* because I thought to myself "goddamnit, I need to know exactly how they made this friggin thing".
3) I used to watch it every Wednesday night for months. It got to the point where I knew the whole thing backwards and forwards, and I would mouth the lines while I watched it. This movie...THIS MOVIE was an absolute game-changer. It made me interested in film-making, it made me interested in acting, it made me fall in love with the whole goddamn operation. Everybody involved with this movie is a genius. Please watch it. I don't want to over-hype, but I feel like I need to share. It's honestly the best.
I still love the ending twist to this. When it was revealed that Hugh Jackman's character was Christian Bale's dad all along, and that they were both actually dead the whole time blew my freaking mind. Not to mention the post credits stinger that reveals that it all took place in present day. Woah man!

You have to make a spoiler vid now. Sorry I don’t make the rules
The Prestige is such a perfect movie. Too many movies with ‘Twist’ endings rely on withheld information that gets revealed at the very end, Which makes the big reveal very unsatisfying. The Prestige gives you EVERY indication what the ‘Twist’ is going to be from the very beginning and holds nothing back from the viewer.
It's also brilliant in how simple and mundane the nature of the 'twist' is. Which is the point: with the movie being structured like a trick all the fantastical stuff is there to distract you - as it told you it would be. The true twist is being shown straight in your face multiple times over, even explained directly, yet all the crazy and flashy stuff manages to keep you distracted enough not to notice.
GepardenK what is the "straight in the face" moment if i may ask? Cause I didn't detect it at all. Maybe from the way he treated his wife. But other than that.. i dunno
@@thecitizens4573 things like the bird having a brother and the little boy pointing it out. Its not straight in the face like this other guy says, but its a subtle way of telling us the twist. As well as how important Mr Falon is to Alfred, for instance when he's buried. That's a big tell that there's something deeper to Fallon's character. There are subtle hints throughout the movie. Again, I wouldn't say "in your face" hints but big hints nonetheless. Also, the biggest one for me is when Alfred says his daughter wants to go to the park, and he asks Fallon to take her. I believe that means that the brother is taking her, not dressed as Fallon, but dressed as a Alfred. That was what gave it away for me the first time watching.
@@thecitizens4573 They spy on the Asian magician with a reportedly "perfect" trick who is seemingly old and crooked. Bale points out that the age must be an act and that the magician must live his entire life as if it was true - which is the only way to achieve a perfect trick. Jackman disagrees and is convinced there must be some clever technology operating behind the scenes.

Minoo yes! Thank you. He could easily reach that all time top tier if he just buckled down and made a script-driven film with real emotion and developed characters. The most important part "the prestige" because making something disappear isnt enough, you have to bring it back. lmao hugh and bale did pull the prestige on each other.
This is my favorite Nolan film and if I had to pick a “favorite film of all time” (which is very hard), The Prestige is the one. It is one of my favorite endings of all time, and I love how the Nolan brothers told the story in such a unique way and still tied everything together in a logical way. If less talented directors or writers had tried to tell the same story, this film could have easily failed. It might not be as artsy as other films like Blade Runner 2049, but as far as storytelling goes I think it’s a masterclass example.

I watched this movie in 2010 I believe. I understand wanting to watch the movie again. That’s why I looked it up when I found your channel and I was disappointed that my favorite movie reviewer did not watch it. I am glad you did it!
