Using flaps is more about how the plane behaves as it lands. Not all planes benefit from flaps. Some land better without , with others flaps are almost a necessity.

I’m glad flap usage mostly comes down to preference. I have yet to fly a bird with flaps but it’s good to know they aren’t crucial for most planes to land with.
    Thanks for the info

I have learned that sometimes they are a hindrance depending on the wind and battery load.

BigGuy great tips my friend. I test flaps in the air and if it balloons, I come in on landing flaps and hit landing flaps about 2 ft off the ground and kill power. If the wind is blowing I see how slow I can get it on landing flaps but takeoff flaps work the same. Just wait till 2 ft off ground and hit takeoff flaps. Done great w/Valiant today, wind was 7 or 8 mph gusts.👍🏻✌🏻🖖🏻

I agree, I forget which landing it was but I deployed them about 2 seconds on approach and yes It does make a difference to wait until closer to touching down. I think its in the angle of attack coupled with speed. The Valiant will forever be one of my "Go To" planes!

Only flying RC for about a year. Have a Sport Cub S 2, UMX Turbo Timber and a FT Simple Cub now setup with flaperons. Love playing with flaps for STOL and often just for relaxed slow flying around my property. Right now have no interest in getting a warbird but will keep what you've said in the back of my mind. Thanks.

Now that you have those birds, take a break from traditional flying and try a power glider like the Conscendo Evolution.

@@FatGuyFliesRC I was actually thinking about getting one of those soaring eagle RC models. I think you get them off of banggood.
