Dave Ramsey speaks to millennials like we are adults who have control over our futures. He gives a path forward instead of condemning the entire generation. He challenges us to make a plan instead of accepting defeat.
One of my favorite lessons that Dave taught me is “what you focus on grows”. I’ve applied it to my finances and 🤯
I am a millennial and I disagree with him on certain points, Dave is human and is not perfect, but I can’t argue that the debt snowball works and is working for my family. Thanks for being yourself Dave!

I see so many people my age complain about debt yet buy hundreds or thousands of dollars in designer clothes and eating at foodie restaurants amongst other wasteful spending. My generation desperately needs this type of financial literacy. Especially after being duped into going to a 4 year out of state college for a useless piece of paper. Grind now while you have the energy and lack of responsibilities (for some).

My wife and I are on baby step 4 and on the way to get my wife through college with cash. People at work in their 30s or 40s laugh at what we do but they’re the ones who keep stressing on car payments way above their paygrade, mortgages that own them, and vacations that hunt them long after they’re back to work. While we’re enjoying the peace of mind we get from having a fully funded emergency fund, guilt-free spending because it’s in the budget, and pride knowing that I am about to leave a legacy for our family. My wife and I believe we’re going to be the first millionaires in our family tree and it’s all because of Dave’s ministry of financial coaching. And yes, we’re millenials! We love Dave Ramsey because you can’t oversimplify common sense. No gimmicks, no “millionaire’s secrets”, no tricks. Thank you to Dave Ramsey and the wonderful people working with him!

I am only in baby step two but I can actually see the finish line. There is an end in sight. I can care less at this point what other people think. So much so I sway them the other way now. I showed my mom my debt snowball the other day and showed her how close I am and if I keep on track I will be done by this date. The conversation started with her telling me to relax and not to waste time doing deliveries when I have a “professional” job. By the end of the conversation, she was so convinced and can see what I can see and was telling me to get another job LOL

It's definitely hard in this society - being looked at as "cheap" or whatever other adjective can be difficult, but in the long run it's much better...although I need to chill a bit sometimes as I get too crazy. It's a crazy thing how everyone wants me to live like they do. My young nephews make comments too - so I know my spending/savings habits are the topic of conversation.

Today my fellow millennial coworkers got into a discussion about how everyone is in so much student loan debt that they’re either gonna have to send all of us to jail in the future cause we can’t make payments, or they’re going to have to forgive all of our student loans. And they can’t send ALL of us to jail, so they’re going to HAVE to forgive everything. They claimed those are our 2 future options and I wanted so badly to be like WELLLLLL actually there’s a 3rd option, it’s called hard work and ACTUALLY being frugal and keeping a budget. But I could tell they weren’t ready to hear it so I didn’t try. But in a different setting, I really might. Like 1/4 of my family and friends think Dave is great and are supportive of me getting out of debt, and the other 3/4 are the people who don’t believe people can live without debt and think I’m crazy for not going out to eat and trying to sell my 2018 car that I owe $13k on. God bless you Dave, you’re literally saving my life by teaching me how to save my own life lol. I just hope more of my peers wake up soon. 😬😬😬🙏🏼🙌🏼

NO. I will. I am going to pay it off. I am in charge of my own life. Will pay it off and then tackle this car loan in the next 6 months and be debt free for the rest of my life. Maybe a mortgage if no other options, but otherwise I will be debt free.

I understand the point of a well-rounded education. Math, science, history... there’s at least a point to study them at one point or another.
But the biggest disservice we are doing to our kids is not teaching them financial literacy in high school. We bucket “finance” as a means to a specific profession and that you can hire people to handle finances. Yes you can do that but everyone NEEDS to have a basic understanding of cash, credit, taxes, etc in order to not make stupid decisions and learn how to live within your means.
We need to revamp our curriculum.

I'm another millennial who loves Dave. I like having a plan and knowing that Dave's plan has been successful for thousands (maybe even millions) of people over several decades brings me peace that this is the right path. I grew up very poor in a poverty stricken rural area and watched my parents, neighbors and friends' parents spend what little money they did have irresponsibly. My parents are still struggling and will not be able to retire until their health prevents them from working. I knew as a kid that I wanted a different life so even if I have to sacrifice now, it's worth it. I just kept getting hung up in the steps, what to do when, and Dave gave it to me straight and simple.

Millennial, democratic socialist, Christian, ace, and on Step 7 working to complete it in the next 5 years. And he's right: I'm not a victim. Which I think is why Millennials like Dave so much: we're tired of feeling like everything is out of our control, and we're just stuck in a mess we can't get out of, so roll over and give up.
Funny enough, my roommate turned me onto Dave's program, because she wanted to get her finances in order this year, and wanted me to not sabotage her efforts... and somehow I'm the one that drank the koolaid, switched (more to) cash, and am on track to be retired by 45. And she explained a few weeks ago that budgets make her feel poor, and that's why she went back to making minimum payments on student loans, car loan, and credit cards. Switching from a mortgage to $400 shared rent hasn't helped her pay off her debts. But hey, there's still time to lure her over to the dark side. :)

Found DR when I was 28, not all applicable outside of the US but really eye opening and the principles are the same for planning and for saving once you find your country's version of the Roths, etc... 29 now, from one of the most economically deprived parts of my country, and verging on debt free in the next month or so, building up that EF, will then start building for that mortgage, and building up the savings. Recently graduated, so still not entirely got the capacity that I'll have in the future to build, but getting a budget together and planning what you've got and where you're going has been key to getting to here. Cheers from Scotland, Dave!

As a boomer I agree with Dave, Millennials are not responsible for economic conditions. In fact, consumer spending and acquiring debt has been foisted on “consumers” by the US government for at least forty years. It also beat the drum for high home ownership rates in the run up to the housing crises in 2007-2008, heedless of the price point. We are not consumers, we are citizens. It is not our job to go into debt to keep the economy running, whether we are boomers , millennials or any other generation. Debt = slavery as the Bible states and should be avoided as much as possible.

Millenials have inherited alot of debt . Also Millenials live in a high debt society so it's natural that they seek out Dave. Millennials are buying houses and getting married alot later in life due to the economy . Millennials get alot of flack but they were raised in a tough economy . You have millennials graduating and getting hired a year or 2 after graduation . That's crazy . But it's due to the economy.

@@freeagent9753 yeah it's crazy . Millennials were told to go to college and get a degree . Which lead to an over saturation of college grads . So many grads graduated and had to wait tables , or wait a year or 2 to get a job . Baby boomers and gen x youths were able to get a job right out of college due to good economy at that time . So it's unfair to compare millennials to them .

I am a millennial as well, and i read that cover story in Fortune Mag, some of the points were well made, others weren't but at the end of the day my take away from it was the exact reason i watch these videos. There is sass and sarcasm (who among us cant be accused of that in our lives lol) but Dave gets right to the point, which is if you don't get realistic about your finances, look at your budget, do the math, and do the work, you wont get out of debt. The world is hard all around but that isn't an excuse not to work even harder. Like other millennials in the article, i may not agree on some personal opinions but that doesn't mean i cant have respect for both the man and the principles.
