- Whilst in Dumaguete you must visit the Silliman University Campus. A prestigious University in downtown Dumaguete, Negros, Philippines.
Appears to be a wonderful environment in which to study. I was a University Photographer in west London photographing students, staff and dignitaries for publicity purposes for ten years.
The Philippines should be on everyone’s bucket list with its beautiful white sand beaches, fabulous idyllic islands, turquoise sea and stunning scenery. The Philippines is a traveller’s paradise and regularly included in top ten favorite places to visit in Asia and affordable, favorite world holiday destination.
Many foreigners/expats choose the Philippines as the best country to retire in Asia and live in paradise. The Philippines is one of the cheapest countries to live in the world with its low cost of living and all year sunshine. Retiring in the Philippines is affordable on a budget of less than $1000 per month.
Filipinos are welcome and warm people. Filipinos are often regarded as the most friendliest nation in Asia and nicest people in the world. English is widely spoken throughout the country. The Philippines is included in the top ten English speaking countries in the world. The majority of Filipinos are highly proficient in English, so it is very easy to strike up a conversation and make new friends.

I went to school there in the late 90's. I have many fond memories of Silliman and Dumaguete that I will always cherish.

Interesting and enjoyable tour, looks like a fantastic campus, l was not aware Dumaguete was a University town. You are absolutely right about the students, friendly and relaxed and l suspect the staff would be the same. In the UK you would probably get arrested or thrown out for wandering around the campus. I was surprised to see almost everyone still wearing a mask, is there still a serious Covid-19 problem there ?

Very true about lack of security.
No covid anymore. Masks are enforced on entry to the campus. But as with most places you just take them off as soon as you're past the gate. Girls still tend to wear them due to habit/insecurity/bad teeth.
There is something in the air about Dumaguete which makes people a little more relax and so deserving of the common perception of being the city of gentle people. Am from Cebu and spent vacations in that city during my high school years as some of my relatives had a house so close to the boulevard. It was always fun being there.👍

I was there in July last year wanting to go inside to the office to inquire about the programs they have, but at the gate the security did not let me in. Probably the school was not in session...
If it is something that changed my life was education, going to school at a later age.

She was not wearing a face mask, so maybe she felt self-conscious. A lot of people are still wearing masks here.
In a different context, I would be certain that Alexis was American - except that, at 19, she's clearly far more educated and articulate than 90% of Americans of any age. I know that Silliman was founded by Americans, but there must also have been considerable Yank influence in her primary and secondary education as well.
In the West, you'd have had security called on you and been escorted off the campus. Creepy old guy walking around filming Teenagers!😜 At 17.00, kinda sad seeing garbage piled up there, seems even young Pinay are just so used to it, they don't do anything about it. Roosters running around too! At least you shaved for this video!🤣🤣🤣

Nobody owns Silliman university. former students and the alumni, the board of trustees, friends of Silliman all make sure the university continue to exist :)
