  • The Gael played by The Royal Scots Dragoon Guards Bagpipes
The Last of the Mohicans is a 1992 historical epic film set in 1757 during the French and Indian War and produced by Morgan Creek Pictures. It was directed by Michael Mann and based on James Fenimore Cooper's novel of the same name and George B. Seitz's 1936 film adaptation, owing more to the latter than the novel. The film stars Daniel Day-Lewis, Madeleine Stowe, and Jodhi May, with Russell Means, Wes Studi, Eric Schweig, and Steven Waddington in supporting roles.
The soundtrack features music by Trevor Jones and Randy Edelman, and the song "I Will Find You" by Clannad. The main theme of the film is taken from the tune "The Gael" by Scottish singer-songwriter Dougie MacLean. Released on September 25, 1992, in the United States, The Last of the Mohicans was met with nearly-universal praise from critics as well as being commercially successful during its box-office run.

The first time I heard bagpipes I was just six years old, and I knew nothing about my Scots heritage. It was at the Rose Parade in Pasadena, California. I could hear the sound of the pipes coming, marching toward me in the distance, and I started to cry with an unknown emotion. Mind you this was an innocent and authentic reaction of a little girl. Now 65 years later they still make me cry, every time. Lately I have traced my ancestry back on my father's side; both his parents were born in Lanarkshire, Glasgow, and the family ancestors were in the same area all the way back to the early 1700's, which is as far as I have gotten. I'm hoping to make it for a visit as soon as the travel bans are lifted, if they'll let me in.

In 1847 Ireland was in the middle of a huge famine that killed 1 million people and saw 2 million flee the country.
The Choctow People in the United States had only recently endured the Trail of Tears back in 1831 and knew full well the suffering the Irish people were going through. They manged to scrape together $170 (today that be about $4,600) and sent it across the Atlantic to ease famine woes.
The Irish people never forgot the Choctow's kindness. In 1992, a delegation from Ireland trekked a 500-mile path from Broken Bow, Oklahoma, to Nanih Waiya, Mississippi, following the route (in reverse) so many Choctaws had taken on the Trail of Tears. In 1995, Ireland's President Mary Robinson visited them and was made an honorary chief.
In 2017 a statue, titled Kindred Spirits, was unveiled in County Cork with local government leaders and 20 members of the Choctow nation in attendance.
