Synopsis
The year is 2040 and the galaxy is flourishing with several colonies and advanced technology. AI is near perfection and the current top idol is the near-completed Virturoid Idol Sharon Apple. All that is missing are her actual feelings, which instead are supplied by Myung Fang Lone. Sharon's debut concert is on planet Eden, where at the same time, fighter pilots Isamu Dyson and Guld Bowman battle over air superiority for the "Supernova Project." Isamu, Guld and Myung were once childhood friends, but after an accident seven years ago, they went their own separate ways. With Myung back in the picture, the old disputes are once again awakened. And when an unstable and illegal AI technique is installed in Sharon, the situation is worsened.

Sci-fi combat animation peaked with Macross Plus. I don't think we will ever see another movie like it.
Almost true. Shinichiro Watanabe played an important role in the scene breakdown and the spacial air combat design. But don't forget he has done another great jobs in Cowboy Bebop and Mobile Suit Gundam: Hathaway. He is always being serious in the air combat scene and the style becomes his signature which is distinguishable from other directors.
Except for Sunrise and Gundam.
Not really. Macross Plus was terrific but there have been greater sci-fi combat animations since. For example Gundam 00, specially the second season, has incredible combat animations.
And if you want airplane-based animations Yukikaze has some amazing air combat sequences.
And like that others.
Battle Fairy Yukikaze enter the chat
@@kraizerxthesimp46 I might have to check that out later. I've never heard of it before
I was always more of a Gundam fan but I'd be lying if I said Macross Plus didn't kick ass. Use to watch it all tge time when it aired late night on SciFi.
what the heck they nailed everything. from animation frames to detailing and sound design
Vestron Vulture absolutely rocks. They're the only artist I can just press shuffle on and only skip one or two songs in an hour.
Try Karl Casey
Hands down a masterpiece and by far the best Macross in the series
macross generally is just blah to me. Too cliche. Plus was different though the ending reveal about guld was too rando.
@@crimsonalucard the original release and the condensed version have slightly different plot points, like most Macross entries. Though they are all canon as they're considered kinda like "in-universe dramatization of historical events", sort of how we have numerous WW2 historical dramas telling different stories of the same thing.
Fun fact: The director of Macross Pluss also directed an obscure little anime you may have heard of: Cowboy Bebop.
To this day, Marcos’s Plus is still peak anime for me. Thanks OP, now I gotta rewatch this again
A year later, and still the best Macross Aesthetic out there. Love it from beginning to end.
Thanks for pinpointing exactly why I love 80’s/90’s sci-fi anime. Don’t stop posting please
When anime art was simply amazing..
SHARON APPLE. I still have that CD. Macross Plus is my favorite Macross story. I highly recommend it!
I only wish I discovered this sooner. Such a BAD ASS edit! LOVE IT!!
❤❤❤
The dogfights in this series was so amazing.
Love me some 80's and 90's aesthetically pleasing mechanical details in anime.
Love the analog and digital astethic and mix this very mechcanical feel of the previous mech and scifi anime
This animation is a masterpiece👍🏻👍🏻✨
Macross Plus is peak Macross. Just gorgeous animations
It’s the little details that make great ideas look phenomenal. Thanks for making this video ❤
🥰
Next up - either Ghost in the Shell or Patlabour
PLEASE DO PATLABOR ❤❤❤
One of my top anime of all time and a big reason why my preferred genre is mecha
Fly By Wire and Situational Awareness here is superb
I was extremely disappointed, as a child, to discover F14 Tomcats were not actual Veritech fighters.
This is what you call a masterpiece
Peak 90's hand draw cell shading era along with Patlabor and GITS movie1.
The Macross franchise went downhill after PLUS who is still my most influencial OVAs to this day from a visual standpoint.
As a Macross fan and Jet guy. I agree, this franchise became a mess after thanks to egomaniac Kawamori.
Gosh how much I did and do love this Anime!
Same. Seeing this video made me want to re-watch it.
Golden era of animation. 🍑
1:48 really conveys raw power
Don't stop, just keep doing, not sure how to put this but it's phenomenal.
Thank you so much 😍
@@hanahakiblankStop showing off DARPA. Best Regards.
The first battle in gundam unicorn is of a similar quality as well!
Sadly, you just don't get this quality and passion in animation anymore.
this is my life i love this music with this.
watching this makes me want to play Star Citizen again... but to lazy to go grab my flight sticks and set them up hahaha.
The music and sounds does wonders to my brainwaves.
Keep em coming. Your compilations are awesome.
Thank you 💓
This is the best
Fun fact: fighter jets will never replicate this even the F35 Lightning cabin looks virgin against this
Oh, man. Walter White as Isamu. I remember waiting for...ever for part 4.
Yes. It's very cool.
This is totally tubular and I love it.
I've always said that the best animation in anime was and will be in the first half of the nineties, when there was a lot of money and little computer graphics.
Apparently The Vision of Escaflowne was supposed to be a spinoff of Macross. I can definitely see some similarities with the way the Guymelefs are operated in the show, especially Escaflowne.
Not exactly, it was from a non-Macross related concept that eventually became the basis for Macross Plus, and then going back to that original concept, Escaflowne was made.
But yeah, that is indeed where the similarities in mechanical design comes from.
I was lucky enough to be alive when this kind of animations was premiered. Man animation today is good but not as epic as the ones in the past. Will we ever see animations like this again? answer to that is - if they blow out billions of cash then maybe. Animations today are soooooooooooooooooo expensive that even a music video costs millions in this level of quality.
It was so good because stuff like this was so rare and hard to find. One of the first DVD's I bought was Ghost in the Shell, soon followed by Akira. This was in the late 90's or early 2000's when I had some sort of disposable income. I watched the shit out of those movies. Every frame, every shot, etc. I can dream them.
Absolutely beautiful movie, maybe the best in the series held back by kinda weird plot
playing start citizen with HOSAS, pedals and a throttle and head tracking is this vibe
love this kind of stuff
YO awesome job! Can anyone tell me the name of this kind of music genre, and what other artists/songs they recommend to find stuff like it??
An all-time favourite. Never seen earlier Macross, always a bit disappointed by later Macross. This animation, story, music, feel, is perfect.
The Top Gun of anime.
Where can I get the movie? I have been looking for years. Haven’t seen it since I was a kid
*Blows up pancakes with my mind*
do a gundam stardust memory version
My dude, that's my favorite gundam series, because it's the ONLY series THAT USES THE RADIO.
"Gato, can you hear me? Gato, I know you can hear me, tune to 5.82"
Gato REACHES OVER, AND TUNES THE RADIO,
"I'm listening, punk"
Every other series has the pilots in a dialogue battle with the enemy pilot of the jump, like there aren't encrypted or secured com lines in a piece of military hardware that can drop a colony on the earth lol and when Kou gets the GPO1fb, and takes her out for that first test run.... MAAAAAAANNNN..... ❤❤❤❤😂😂😂
*some day….*
Some day, I will develop or help to develop a combat flight-sim that is *all* this aesthetic.
bought vol 2, i think on vhs. Expected a lot of combat but came up short and tried carrying it back.
Awesome
Excelente
Gaaawd, I hate it when I get the dreaded ISAMU error in the middle of a dogfight...
Traditional animated mecha... a lost art.
poetic
F-15 Tomcats... IN SPAAAACE!
The music you use goes really that much with Macross
Mm, I like it!
Nice

🇲🇽Vestron Vultures!!!!!
They don't make 'em like they use to.
they don't make a mecha anime like this again
After such videos you want to become combat pilot
Stupid question, when cutting this video how did you get the background sound effects so crisp. What do you usually use for editing.
Not a stupid question at all! Usually, I replace the sounds if they contain music or voice. However, I've recently started using AI to extract the sounds. Since I'm an IT engineer, I created a program for this purpose. For editing -> Sony Vegas Pro
@hanahakiblank I've done a couple of edits like this posting on Facebook, but this blows my shit out of the water. Yeah, those sound bytes really what give off that nostalgia. Good job 👏
Videos like this make me sad that I just can't get into giant mecha anime. I can appreciate the level of detail and the smoothness of the animation, but aside from Transformers, big ass mechs just never interested me and I'm not sure why. Even the Knightmare frames in Code Geass were almost too much for me, and it bothers me that such a small thing bothers me.
what does it have to do with it?transformers
don't you know? macross
@Magma-vu5vo What does Transformers have to do with it? As I stated in my comment, Transformers was the only anime involving giant robots that I was able to enjoy. Yes, I know Macross, as well as all the iterations of Gundam, Neon Genesis Evangelion, Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann. My guy, I couldn't even watch Voltron. And as I stated, I don't know why. Giant mechas are cool in theory, but as soon as I see one, I lose interest.
Don't you know that Transformers are also a Japanese creation?
This would have been the rival to Gundam…..if they didn’t focus so much on the damn idols
they just dont make stuff like this anymore
classic 2d mech animation>>>> "modern" CGI used on lame mecha anime nowadays
I once loved toons.
Before the Dark ages, before wokeness.

Animate in the past without CGI is so dam awesome. Animate nowadays with full CGI looks so suck!!
