  • In Part 2, Craig Westergard, Architect and Trustee at the Roslyn Landmark Society, details the significant redevelopment of the industrial area in Roslyn around the William Cullen Bryant Viaduct. Originally an industrial zone with lumber yards, oil tanks, and refinery facilities, the area has been transformed through extensive projects.
Key elements of the redevelopment include the construction of the new William Cullen Bryant Viaduct. Completed in 2012 and designed to last 75 years, this bridge replaced an older structure.
The tour also highlights new projects such as the Atria assisted living facilities and the Roslyn Landing project. These developments feature a promenade and boardwalk along the waterfront, integrating environmental and aesthetic improvements.
Lumber Road, once lined with industrial buildings, now hosts luxury apartments. A new brick building was constructed to fit the historic district's context without creating a false historical appearance. Through the tour, Craig Westergard explains the importance of preserving history while meeting contemporary needs.
Overall, the redevelopment of Roslyn balances historical preservation with modern development, transforming an industrial past into a vibrant community.

So wonderful. Since the wheel is to be restored, will the canal be dredged? Otherwise, how is it turning? That silt muck is nasty.
