      Yes & No. If he really wanted help, he would have made that clear when his parents were summoned to his school regarding his alarming graffiti on his math paper. Instead, he explained it away by claiming that he was merely designing a video game. By that time, he was hell-bent on destruction.
      The foolish adults bought his b.s. enough to let him return to class without even checking his bag & locker. 20 years ago, that might not have been as glaring an error. Nowadays, however, we have an epidemic of mass shootings in USA -- many of which take place at schools. So tragic & infuriating. 💔

      I suspect that she thought that to express any regrets on her own part would amount to admitting guilt. I think that she was trying to say that she did the best she could with the information she had at the time. The wording of her lawyer's question and her answer sounded so awful though; it did her more damage than good.
      In my opinion, Jen & James should regret letting Ethan have a gun and failing to secure it properly. Jen & James (and the school staff) should regret not searching Ethan's bag & locker. Jen & James should regret not getting Ethan psychiatric help sooner. Jen should regret getting preoccupied with her expensive, time-consuming hobbies -- including extramarital dating.

Check for journals or anything else they write down and they read everything! Also a helicopter mom would have acted completely differently when she was called into the office and saw picture he drew on his math test of someone shooting up a school , she would have grabbed his backpack right in that office open it up to see if the gun was in there. But if she was a helicopter mom she would have never bought him the gun and she would have had him in therapy a few years ago

      I haven’t listened to a lot of the testimony and would have to match testimony to jury instructions before knowing how I’d vote if I were on the jury. With that said it seems that her level of receiving signals about her son’s mental seems high enough that at the very least, if she was determined that her son needed a gun to use at the shooting range, his access should be strictly restricted to using at the range. A typical parent would probably be more worried about self harm than a school shooting, but that’s more than reason enough to keep the gun away from the volatile teenager.

      Yes. I was a helicopter mom. I cleaned my son's room 2x a week. I looked for drugs, alcohol and weapons. I searched his book bag on a regular basis. And my ex-husband kept his gun in the gun safe. My son was not allowed to have any weapons. His highschool had a zero-tolerance policy. But this is about owning a gun... Look I am a 2nd Amendment rights advocate too, many of my friends and family have small armories, but this kid and his parents shouldn't have been able to "own" a gun. The fact that it was so easy for them to put a deadly weapon in a depressed, mentally disturbed, teenager's hands IS the problem. I believe "Well regulated" is in the 2nd Amendment as well. This all feels like complete chaos to me. Common sense gun control is not "taking our guns away" unless you are afraid that you are one of those people that shouldn't own a gun.

I might not know everything in the world, in fact some people would call me pretty dense or dumb, but when it comes to my son I know all. He is my child, he is my responsibility. We live in a society, where truly nothing is anybody's fault anymore. Probably this biggest reason why I enjoy watching court cases is to observe the lawyers and to hear their questions and the responses by the witnesses. This court case for me is fail as far as the quality of lawyers, for both sides.

    She’s very unlikeable, she probably was not a good mother, she was selfish and was having an affair, etc. I’m afraid that good parents will now be charged for things, even if they don’t provide their child with a weapon-because they can say, “you were not a good enough parent, so we are charging you, all Just for fun.” This is what is so concerning. This is definitely a messed up and toxic family, but I can see this happening to any family with a child who has mental issues. They were not good parents, no child should have access to a gun like this, especially if they have mental health issues.

    • @10054760
      @10054760 Před 4 měsíci +3

      I don’t think this means that good parents will be charged for things because of this. Most good parents aren’t giving their mentally ill child a gun, they’re not ignoring concerns raised by school officials, they’re not locking their child out of the house at night and then taking him to school after knowing he had a mental episode and was thinking of killing people at school. Those aren’t the actions of a good parent

    Perhaps this verdict will be the start of bringing some accountability to future parents, enablers, and otherwise irresponsible gun owners where their gun is used in a gun crime, or even an “accident” that involves their gun. A huge part of the gun crimes and accidents in America can be traced back to an irresponsible gun owner.

    Something that bothers me is the fact that they feel the need to hide the g-n in various different places around the house rather than lock it and keep it in a singularly place. You have a 15 year-old who would know better than to take or search for it. But if you have to keep moving it, you clearly didn’t trust your son. There was some unconscious concern there.
