HEY, HAVE YOU HEARD OF
KING GIZZARD AND THE LIZARD WIZARD?
Yes the name is outrageous but so is the music! It calls for your attention and I’m sure they’ll win it over. King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard are making some of the most inventive, exciting and memorable rock albums currently out there. Four years after their debut they had released 8 albums. About 2 a year since 2012. King Gizzard then went on to promise 5 albums for 2017. They just released number 4 out 5 and they gave this new one away for free...
Who are King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard?
King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard are:
Stu Mackenzie - Lead guitarist, vocalist, songwriter, flute, keyboard, clarinet, sitar, double bass, bass guitar and zurna player. The guy can do it all.
Joey - the other guitarist, occasional vocalist, all round great guy
Ambrose - “Strangers Call Me Kenny” he brings his wild harmonica and sultry voice into a few cuts.
Cookie is on rhythm guitar
Lucas - bass guitar
And their two drummers…
Cavs….
And Eric.. Now why does a band need two drummers? Well why not? Have you heard how loud one drum kit sounds? Now imagine two. At the same time
Here's an introduction to the band's discography so far:
12 Bar Bruise
Eyes Like The Sky
Float Along - Fill Your Lungs
Oddments
I’m In Your Mind Fuzz
Quarters
Paper Mache Dream Balloon
Nonagon Infinity
Flying Microtonal Banana
Murder of the Universe
Sketches of Brunswick East
Polygondwanaland
Gumboot Soup
“Murder of the universe is probably the heaviest album”
Me: *laughs in Infest the Rats Nest*
I was literally about to comment that
Just saw them in Chicago.......no fucking joke guys
THERE IS ONE PLANET VEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEAAAUAAAAHH
*cackles from Mars*
saw them right before they dropped the album show was fucking nuts i was 6 rows from the stage too :0
If this is your first video your channel's going places
it went places
It’s baffling and amazing that almost 5 years and Middle 8’s Content is constantly high in quality.
It went somewhere
It did
@@lllluuuuccccaaaa but its kind of slowed down, like views from a year or two ago had much higher views then newer vids, although i dont thinks its because of a quality drop maybe he just got unlucky with the algorithm
Murder's spoken word narratives add so much to the music. The stories are so crazy and complement the instrumental imo
I think the entire Altered Beast story is some of their best work. Not many traditional rock bands can make 17 minutes of music into one long epic battle-themed story.
100 percent agree! Bloody heavily underrated album. It's. Masterpiece from them
I have found my people
@@tylerhatton9523 we may be few, but convert the non believers we shall
Murder of the universe
More like
Bad
They’re still growing in popularity, I see them releasing at least 30 albums within their career
Damn they are going to have several albums such as Rush
LETS HOPE TO GOD
I mean shit they’re already half way there
That's like 2017 6 times
We're at 20 with 3 more to go this year.
"Modern music is bad "
King gizzard : am i a joke to you ?
I hate when people say they hate modern music, but only base that off of mainstream radio songs, and they don't actually try to look for good modern bands, such as King Gizzard
As a fellow Jimmy Page fan, I’m sure you also hear that a lot! Sick pfp! Gizz is one of my favorite modern acts, being as exciting as I find many older groups. I also enjoy CHON and Mastodon.
There is exeptions
@@spamsingles5948 thing is that mainstream music used to be better
@@ignaciogramsch7194 That doesn't matter. Every year has good and bad music, mainstream or not
So much has happened since this video. Please do a part 2 🙏
No honestly same hahaha
Your wish has been granted.
@@OwainCynanRoberts YES!
Awesome video! But don't knock Oddments haha. Such a good album. Need to be thankful for the album that gave us Vegemite!
put gizzard over your battlefront videos
Read your comment after I wrote mine and have to agree
homeless man in adidas is a personal favorite.
HOT WAX COMIN' UNDER THE DOOR
HOT WAX COMIN' UNDER THE FLOOR
Oddments is so underrated, for someone who doesn't love prog and heavier rock, its an album I enjoy more than most of their stuff. Its a calming and more psychadelic experience that really shows off their range and I don't think its should be ridden off as just an album of rejects
They're going to go down as the Led Zeppelin of the millennial generation.
Absolutely insane band, and an even more insane video.
Take my sub boi
Hell no Jethro Tull+King Crimson
Berke nah, that title belongs to Greta Van Fleet, they even look like em too
I was thinking of Rush plus more members
@@zoeyjoziee8885 they suck
led zeppelin stole everything and never made anything original, these guys are extreme oposite
That video should last 10:10
Yes!!!!!!!!!
This band will always be in my mind
Nonagon they're in your mind
They're not in your mind
they've dug a little deeper into my mind
everyone wants to suck me dry
OPEN THE DOOR
did my man just disrespect Hot Wax
Don"t leave out the mastermind behind all of their videos, album art and video projects for all of their music and shows! jason galea is defiantly worth a mention!!!
Matt Bryant I originally mentioned him in my script but had to cut him out cause of time and I just couldn’t decide where I wanted to mention him.
Middle 8 I get that, great video either way!
Oddments was actually the album that got me into KGATLW. I didn't realise it has such a bad rep.
same im just getting into them i thought it was pretty sick when i listened today, which is a good sign i honestly assumed that oddments was their peak
I know work this time was the song that got me into the band
Wow, this is you're first video and it looks like something out of a multimillion sub channel lol
I'm wondering if this channel will explore more unknown rising bands and genres. There's so much going on that deserves attention, especially in the Australian scene.
This was a great video, just earned yourself a sub.
sandromnator thanks for the kind words and subscribing. I’ll be covering music in general, with more mini band documentaries like this one too. Moreso bands that have a story that I feel needs to be told. Gizz was an obvious choice!
Sounds great. Can't wait.
Hail the Sun might be a good choice, they have cool ideas for albums and are lauded for their instrumentation. The EP Elephantitis "takes the concept of Elephantitis (a physical overgrowth of a part of the body) and applies it to negative character traits, such as anger or an obsession with death." Eight-Ball, Coroner's Pocket is a masterpiece. If you like Gizz, you should enjoy their work.
Also, just remembered - Crobot. Up-and-coming 70s/blues/pentatonic rock band (think Carry on Wayward Son, Black Betty, etc...). All the songs on their first album were about monsters and wizards and all that, for no reason. Ghost also seems like a perfect fit for that "band with a story" element. Another that's REALLY unique is Area 11, for multiple reasons. 1) they started out writing songs with lyrics referencing anime series. 2) a couple members worked with the Yogscast (huge CZcams gaming channel) and they wrote the theme/intro to one of their most popular series, and it was then put into Area 11's most popular song. 3) Most importantly, Digital Haunt. digitalhaunt.wikia.com/wiki/Digital_Haunt_Wiki a project the lead singer has been working on for years, which he leaves clues about in many songs across their discography. Quite an endeavor. 4) They have a song, Bosozoku Symphonic, which is 11:11 long, on their 11 song length debut album.
I'll check them out. Thanks. I've recently been listening to a new band called Greta Van Fleet and they're blowing up. They have a crazy 70s feel to them.
This video got me into king gizzard and the lizard wizard and thank you so much, my entire musical life flipped upside down and I've never been the same since
Same ...I'm kicking myself that they have been right under my nose for years...my life has been changed after finding them
How is it now 4 years later?
@@johnhennessey5 I'm writing the best music of my life, Jazz, Post-Punk, proto-metal. At the time of my original comment, I was an idiot who thought that music was only good if it had loud guitars in it. Polygondwanaland, specifically inner cell, showed me what beauty in music can look like with gorgeous texture, odd structure and beautiful melody and counter melody. I literally wouldn't be the same person without King Gizzard. They were even there for me through the worst tragedy of my life, and for that, I'm forever grateful
Holy cow, you sure this is your first video? Thats fucking amazing, you nailed an entire genre of entertainement in one try +1 sub
Am I the only one who really likes oddments like alot
na, i love most of it
Probably my favourite album haha
Oddments is great, whimsical pop psych with folk , blues and funk- each song takes you in its adventure (tasty)
Astro Apollo idk man I really love stressin
It's a great album!! Maybe a little short, but it's awesome!!!
buckethead released an album every day in October a few years back...
buckethead is quantity over quality with hardly any semi decent tracks
@@thugtrippin nah completely wrong. hes a musical genius, you obviously havent explored his work
TY Segall following!
Climbatize 91 Buckethead is definition of trash what are you talking about
Moes Haven made an album every day of 2006
I would love to see Death Grips, Kayo Dot, The Mars Volta, MewithoutYOU, Scott Walker, and Ulver on this channel. All of these artist have very unique discographies that I think are worth talking about.
DeadODST I’ll definitely cover another artists like this again. Maybe not every video though.
Middle 8 primus or ween would be good too. Both are great and have very diverse and unique sounds
Kayo Dot and/or Ulver are MUSTS.
The Mars Volta & Ween - FTW!
Such a life changing band for me hadn’t heard a single song before and my mates asked me to go watch gizz with them I said yeah and since then I haven’t missed a gig in brisbane
Saw them play Gizzfest Sydney the other night, breathtaking performance, they know how good they are and are flowing with confidence, you couldn't take yours eyes away from the stage. 👏👏👏🤘 greatest band of our time.
We need another Gizzfest ASAP
this band does everything right, this is what we needed these days and its working. They're one of those bands that in 20 years time people will still remember and listen to, just like we listen to bands like Pink Floyd or Black Sabbath today
Such a great band. I'm very thankful for them. Sketches of Brunswick East is my favorite of theirs and one of my favorite albums of all time. But honestly it's all incredible.
king crimson and nirvana made a love child and that lovechild ate some thrash metal.
I don't really hear any Nirvana in their sound, aside from the occasional rough vocals.
Album #5 is out!
I recently became a Gizz fan and have been obsessed with them since I started listening. There is so much meaning and so much to dissect in each of their albums, especially the more conceptual ones. Imagine being a fan in 2017, hooked in by Nonagon Infinity, and then Flying Microtonal Banana, Murder of the Universe, and Polygondwanaland all drop in the same year... I would lose my shit.
This video was released less than 6 years ago, and Polygondwanaland is now in the first half of King Gizzard’s discography…
Wow what an amazingly well made video, giving the band exactly the expose they deserve so much. Very thought-through and informative for both new listeners and the die-hard Gizzfans like myself. You earned yourself a new subscriber and I'm looking forward to more videos!
this video is what introduced me to king gizzard and now they're one of my favorite bands, thank you.
I just got into this mind-blowing band earlier this year ... Love 'em!!
What’s your favourite King Gizzard album from this year?
MOTU
POLY
FMB
SKETCHES
Polygondwanaland
Flying Microtonal Banana
Sketches of Brunswick East
Murder of the Universe
Kristian Larsson Private Those are some of the best King Gizzard albums of the year imo.
In that order
Middle 8 Sketches is my favorite. I really enjoy the collab with Mild High Club, the way some of the songs just flow with each other and their version of “The Chat/Rolling Stoned” is soothing.
If the last album is christmas related I'll lose my shit. Especially if the cover is the castle covered in snow
really good video, totally outlines everything i keep telling my friends about gizz ahah
Why does oddments get hate? I wish they kept that slow psychedelic sound throughout all their albums
It's easily a top 3 Gizzard album for me.
i havent litsened to all the king gizz stuff but the songs on oddments slap so hard and i get that the album doesnt have a theme like the others but like....sleepwalker and work this time and stressin and all that other good stuff
Totally agree man
Coming back here to thank you for introducing me to this band. I’ve been obsessed since I found this video! You’re the best
This video changed my life man. Gizz is now my favorite band
@Middle8 Thank you for getting me into this band, thanks to you I'm seeing them live tomorrow.
Incredibly great video!
I'm gonna show this to friends to introduce them to the Gizz!
+1 i had the same thought
I heard about this band right around the time you were making this video. They came highly recommended by a young couple from Australia.
I picked an album at random and gave it a brief listen and wasn't awestruck immediately and planned on getting back to them.
5 years later omnium gatheriam pops up in my recommended. King gizzard is pretty much all I've been listening to since that album release. In Your Mind by far my favorite.
And I'm not very fond of spoken word stuff when I'm listening at home but it sounded kind of cool when I saw them do Lords of lightning live.
I'm an old man now with tons of great music to listen to but for the last 8 months I've been doing as you said, trying to decide which kglw album I want to listen to as opposed to which artists or genre.
Saw them live at Paredes de Coura. One of the best concerts I've seen, such energy. Started following them and they're great crazy, humble and spirited
I cannot thank this video enough. About a month ago i watched this video. And ever since then King Gizzard became my favorite band. Thank you ❤️
I actually checked on a music program and the files for quarters are 10 minutes 10 seconds and 10 hundreths of a second. I couldnt delve deeper and see if it continued
I'd be very excited to see an updated review of their discography. This video definitely kickstarted my love for this insanely talented group.
keep pushing videos like this out, it was a treat to watch and I subscribed. also I think it'd be fun if you reviewed the 5 albums that came out this year. dope video
Sketches of Brunswick east is one of my favorite king gizz albums. I see it was the paper mache dream balloon of 2017. Super big style change and new instrumentation. It is overlooked by the king gizz community so much. Tezeta is a great song and the robot voice in the middle is a great call back to MOTU. Love these boys with my whole heart.
Oddments is my favorite record tho...
Mr DopeHat don’t change that
Whytho ? Genuinly interested
This video is amazingly well made considering its the only one on the channel so far. It was fun to learn about one of my favorite bands right now. Keep up the great work!
Bradley Hayes thanks!
Instant sub. Surprisingly high quality for being a brand new channel.
I really like these quick discography breakdowns. Makes it much easier for new listeners to learn about artists that are this prolific. It's hard for a person to wade through like 12 albums of a band they just discovered. I NEED a video like this for Swans.
Thanks 🙏
Just found this channel, finding some new sick bands love it
Hey man, thanks for the mention. This is a fine summary of the band.
Thanks, I bought your pressing! Just voted to get that circular craziness backing. Debating on getting those updated picture discs too.
Oh, cool. Circular seems to have won by a remarkable percentage. Glad we decided to do that.
insanely well made video for the amount of subs that you have! keep it up, this was surprisingly good lmao - insanely well edited too!
I think it's time for a refresh
Remember 2017? Well they just did it again.
And they're dropping 60% of them in October
I love eyes like the sky so fucking much
So how do you think Fishing for Fishies compares to their body of work? I think the narrative is awesome.
fantastic! Very well put and unbiased, and great production quality. Well done!
Goosebumps, great video right here sir, you really made this special, nice for newbies to the band and for veterans alike.
They're all amazingly talented, mind blowing artists (first time I heard them I just couldn't believe they were a modern band)
Checking in from June 2023. king Gizzard has just released PetroDragonic Apocalypse or Dawn… something (Still can’t remember the full name it just came out yesterday). I’m at that point where instead of thinking ‘what artist should I listen to?” I instead ask, “ Which King Gizzard album should I listen to?”
dude, this really well done! i can't wait to see what you do next.
And now, within the beginning notes of 2022 playing, we are 7 albums further (2 being live albums), and they have not stopped. Gumboot Soup stood just as tall as the prior 4, with Fishies arguably standing taller. Jury may still be out on Rats' Nest, but Chunky Shrapnel and Live in San Francisco '16 are excellent displays of their mastery of live performance. Now, with K.G. and L.W., their Microtonal experimentation has hit a new high. Then we got a Dream Pop record.
King Gizzard has something for everyone, and I mean absolutely everyone. THEY EVEN HAD DJ SHADOW REMIX A SONG FROM BUTTERFLY 3000.
oh without a doubt, a fantastic band, sketches of brunswick east is one of my favorite records right now.
A project I founded with a close friend of mine we call "The Flowering Eyeballs" has brought out about 2-5 albums a month this year, with a total of 60 now and another 15 as drafts that are being processed.
Mind you, everything we do is an experiment, and 90% of it has been improvisational, changing up our lineup with friends constantly, posting live albums from shows we throw in our home town, and nothing is left unrecorded, rarely a thing scrapped (if it falls on its own sorta sound or just didn't make the cut, we post a series of the leftovers under the names of 'Hidden Crops' batches 1-3 and so on. Also, nothing is mastered, just softly/heavily edited with a lo-fi/live feel. Give us a shot if you like the sounds of SONIC YOUTH, ATLAS SOUND/DEERHUNTER, KING GIZZ, PAVEMENT, OR NOTHING YOU'VE EVER HEARD BEFORE. ETC ETC.

Infest the rats nest: hold my beer
Reminds me of Polyphonic's stuff. Great video, excited to see more!
I remember when I found your channel and you only had a couple of videos up. Looking back on this being your first video and you still have such a way of speaking. True journalistic talent 🤙
I ran across these guys almost four years ago and as much as I want them to succeed, I don’t at the same time, they are a gem! Great video dude!
You had me at "an infinitely looping album." Also, this is a really good first video for this channel. Good job man!
Edit: I listened to the song you played for "Murder of the Universe" and I love the spoken word. It feels like an epic fantasy adventure!
Thank you!!
It's not often that I get introduced to a band I've never heard before that have such a large library to discover! Porcupine Tree was the last one.
one hell of video to be your first of many! love your content! keep it up!!
With this band I'm convinced I was born in the right generation, love them!

You made this video around the time I discovered them. What a few weeks it's been!
Just want to shout out this video for being the most important video I’ve ever watched in my life. Been a hardcore gizz fan ever since I saw this, and the release of their magnum opus today got me thinking about how grateful I am that I ever saw this. Been a big fan of your channel since that day as well. Thanks so much man :)

You know I couldn’t get into king gizzard before after trying again and again but maybe this time around it will be the time
Archer same. The more I listen to them the more I like them though
It took me a good few tries
The best thing about King Gizzard is that you MUST listen to the album from end to end. The albums are cohesive and smooth in transition and just coasts you through the album. Genius band. My new favorite. Long live the King
This earned a sub. Love King Gizz and this was really well done and a good description of their albums
Nice summary man. I've been listening to them nonstop this last week. Got into them when Paper Mache dropped, but my favourite is also Nonagon. Fuzz, Banana and Murder are amazing too. Great video!
This was a freaking great video! Nonagon is amazing, but Flying Microtonal Banana is a masterpiece to me.
this needs a part 2
Oddments was my introduction and I love that album
Amazing video dude. I love king giz. I can see a lot of love in this video. I appreciate the in depth look on the discography and the 5 album year. Keep it up! (Dream balloon is my fave album still, flying microtonal behind it :p )
Buckethead is the exception. Wise words. The guy is like a living God.
Good stuff. Cheers from Brunswick
Wow I first saw the tame impala and then this one. I’m reeeeaalllly happy you’re on CZcams!! I’ve never heard of these guys before but I love these guys from the few songs I’ve heard. Keep it up and please keep showing smaller bands. 👍👍
Subscribed because I hope you make more of this stuff. Awesome, great production value as well.
You nailed it, dude. I've been loving the the gizz since I seen them last summer at coachella. A whole weekend of complete shit music except for king gizzard. The cunts made them play in the afternoon... they better be headlining next year.
I've playing polydongawandaland pretty much nonstop for a week. Excellent music to work to.
Nice work on this video. I'll point people to it as an introduction to the group. Subscribed so you better make more.
Gumboot Soup.
Introgreen And it is an incredible record!
Thats the most different record and variety
The others are similar
These guys are so freaking weird it's right up my alley. The fact that it seems like they literally do whatever they want is so awesome and authentic. I was drawn in with Infest the Rats Nest and definitely want to keep hearing more heavy sounds from them. Good video!
Hey, I starting listening to King Gizzard and the Lizzard Wizard, and my favorite album is Sketches of Brunswick. Then I found out they collaborated with the band The Mild High Club. I've started listening to them, and now they are one of my favorite bands. You should totally make a video on The Mild High Club. Great videos btw!
Your style reminds me of Nerdwriter1 and thats not a bad thing.
Solaris yes it is, Nerdwriter says nothing and pretends he says something
The Mirror I love nerdwriter but I love this comment.
OMG yes: "Nerdwriter pretends he says something"!; out of 10 things he says 1 is something.
Instead, Middleight is on fire: 11/10.
karakenio agreed!
@John Appleseed What are you doing commenting on a video that isn’t 20th century classical
This band seems great. Time to give their albums a go!
Excelent video man, I really love how you put all their content in this video. Lovely
