Could you imagine if Made in Timeland actually dropped today lol
Thanks for watching, hope you enjoy this one!
Dude I've been waiting for this one thank you so much 👏👏
Dude just got into them this year! So happy to see this video!
You should do an update when both albums drop this year!
LMAO
IT'S LITERALLY CHRISTMAS BRO
catastrophic failure timing
I love how this video was made only 8 months ago and now there are 5 albums that are gonna be missing from the Dive. Shows how ludicrously fast this band makes stuff.
This is why I firmly believe Dives should only be made for artists/bands who have retired or broken up.
I swear U blink to slow and they have 2 new albums now
@@BrendanJSmith Yes but then we'd never get the Spoon DDD
I love how this comment was made 6 months ago and no there are 4 new albums missing from the comment and the Dive . Shows how ludicrously fast band makes stuff
now 6
King Gizz decided to hold back the new album so the DDD wouldn’t be immediately outdated. How nice of them
shelved timeland again just for this
I'm from 1 month in the future and this video is missing half a dozen albums
aye, 2 months in the future here, this whole video is outdated by 18 albums.
@@Bokmoh that’s crazy! Such a diligent band, so refreshing!!👍
And they're just about to release three albums in one month 6 months later this video was uploaded 😭
My friend is from Australia, great guitarist named Harry Hart. He went to the same school that Stu went to, and apparently the reason the king gizz guys met eachother was because one of their professors put them in a study group because he knew they all liked the same music.
That professor? Han-Tyumi
community ass band
Good man 😌
That professor is a real one. Wish mine cared half as much lmao
Love this band. I am motion designer on TV and when I need boost my imagination I listen their albums. It's explode my mind. So I'd like to Sonic Youth DDD, please.
14:23 "if you are looking for an entry point for the band, this is it" you could even say... Nonagon Infinity opens the door
Lol
Felt like a missed opportunity lol
Goddamn it
The way I've often described the similarities between Fishing for Fishes and Infest the Rats Nest is that Gishies is a man in a park with an acoustic guitar singing about how the planet is something we should take care of, where as rats Nest is that same man smashing his guitar, shooting Elon Musk in the face, and shouting," DID I FUCKING STUTTER."
I hope I'll never forget this great analogy
This is an absolutely wonderful analogy
@beep boop Nobody said it was hard to figure out. It being easy to figure out is kind of what makes it a good analogy to start with.
@@vladnikitin2566 It's hard to forget the image of Elon Musk being shot in the face.
I love Rats Nest so much, in some way it and a couple other Gizzard tracks epitomize the time period we find ourselves in, The Crumbles.
Mic, you're the real King Gizzard and Lizard Wizard for doing this. Thank you.
You should make an updated DDD with all the new albums when King Gizzard drops their 286th album in the year 2065.
More like 2025
now that comment got me thinking what buckethead ddd would look like
@@vvaveave who even knows how long that one would go on
I didn't vibe as much with Infest the Rat's Nest when it first came out. Then my house burned down in a wildfire, suddenly Rat's Nest became my favorite album, lol. It became something like an anchoring point when I was feeling really angry with the world. Anyway, great video!
that's the perfect description of Rats Nest
Sorry about your house burning down. =(
But yeah that fuckin sucks hope you're in a better place now
0 to 100 in 0 seconds flat, someone tell Tesla.
you did not just compare "bone" from paper mache dream balloon to "they'll soon discover." that's 1,000% correct
Kg mashup when
@@stalka929 i did some on my old channel. might re-release them at some point
@@WilliamMaranciMashups wait, actually? that's sick, never knew you were a fan
(SPOILERS FOR THOSE THAT HAVEN'T WATCHED THE VIDEO UNTIL THE END)
I really like how the video itself loops around much like Nonagon Infinity. Very nice touch. Haven't got to listen to much of King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizards until I watched this video. Good stizzar- I mean good stuff.
I like your videos
-we came in?
That's so cool. Did not catch that.
@beep boop Chill out buddy, Jesus Christ!
@@augustokonrad3572isn’t this where-
Work This Time being their most listened to song on Spotify I *think*, is due to it being in their Modern Psychedelia playlist. That's definitely how I found them a few years ago, actually.
Yeah that's the reason. It's been on that playlist for aaaages, right at the very top, so even before their recent explosion in popularity Work This Time was just steadily accumulating streams.
It was the first track in the playlist
Also, it has a big chilled indie psych vibes, like Mac DeMacro or Mild High Club, so it's much accessible to alot of listeners compared to their heavy stuff
also, for a long time oddments was the only gizz album to be available worldwide on spotify. most albums were region locked to AUS or NA/Europe for a long time, like up until 2018 i think.
I remember opening for Gizz one time in Melbourne back in 2011 when everyone just knew them as “the band who spit on each other during shows” so glad they grew out of that
Huge If True
No they definitely still spit
Just want to point out: their 5 album run in 2017 has been matched by their 5 album run in 2022. Omnium Gatherum, Made in Timeland, Ice, Death, Planets, Lungs, Mushrooms, and Lava, Laminated Denim, and Changes make 5 album releases in 2022.
I mean, 2 of those albums only have 2 songs so it’s not really as impressive as 2017, but it’s still super impressive
@@redpig6878 Those songs are 15 minutes long!
@@Edward-cp5ri yeah I know but 30 minutes is still not really a full albums length when all the other albums in 2017 are around 40-45 minutes in length
@@redpig6878 yeah but omnium gatherum is a double album running like 1:30h and ice planets runs like 1h
@@maxlangevelt8995 true, very true, forgot about how long Ice Planets was
King gizzard is literally King crimson for the 2000s..
With a lot of motif to breathe in with music..
Robert fripp would be proud..
he is alive you know...
As a person who saw King Gizzard on their 2019 tour, Infest the Rats Nest translates insanely well live.
You make very good videos Mic. I hope you’re having a good day.
I hope you're having a good day too!
Saw them live in Las Vegas when they were touring for Nonagon Infinity. Venue was outside and had the stage, a large area for the crowd, and then in the back a pool. In the middle of their set Stu crowd-surfed and asked to be thrown in the pool. He swam for a bit then crowd-surfed back to the stage. The whole time the band was just shredding away. Top 10 concert experience for me.
King Gizzy and the Lizzy Wizzy are one of those rare bands where I enjoy whatever they put out. They could release a Nu Metal album and I'd still eat it up
Well Omnium Gatherum has both metal and rap so we're one step closer
Cant wait for a Gizz's pornogrind album!
Here from the future, Petro Dragonic Apocalypse is almost exactly that. Almost.
I've first listened to the whole KG&TLW discography in 2020. I was about to ride in a car for 14 hours and I knew that they had many albums, so I figured that I might as well listen to all of them in one sitting. It was worth it, the trip didn't feel as long as it was thanks to them. I listen to them ever since, especially when I travel long distances.
I feel like with so, so many Australian acts (especially alternative or indie ones), the one thing which cannot be discounted due to its importance is airtime of Triple J.
It's really hard to explain that to people outside of Australia, but making in on the Js can basically make your career
every cool Aussie alt act I find will always mention triple J on their Wikipedia pages. You Am I come to mind.
Triple J is an Aussie institution. I am 54 years young and have being listening to the station since I was a teen in the Eighties. I am still discovering amazing new Australian music to this day.
For newcomers to the band, honestly "I'm in you Mind Fuzz" might be more digestible than "Nonagon Infinity", and still maintains the core sound the band is known for, however both are fantastic so listen to both!
I wish someone could write an AI to automatically update this video every time they drop an album
if you like KGLW you might like a band called The Doublejumps
I finally checked out King Gizzard after they released their metal album and now I kinda wish more metal sounded like King Gizzard.
*King Gizzard* : (Releases 5 albums in one year)
*Buckethead* : "Pff. Ammeters."
"It's the most compelling argument for a future KG yacht rock album" Well, looks like you got your wish sort of
'its ugly its loud and its pessimistic. but its still a good time' my friends describing me to a stranger
My dad has an odd obsession with this band and now I understand why.
The (evil) River live at Redrock is honestly my favorite version of the song
Butterfly 3000, helped me though probably the hardest time in my life. I can’t credit that album for enough. And on top of that introduced me to king gizzard.
Thank you for introducing me to this band
I'm OBSESSED with Nonagon Infinity
A few years ago I was invited to come see King Gizz, who I had never heard of, by a friend and I lazily listened to a couple songs on their most recent album a couple weeks before the gig. Turns out, what had been the most recent album when I was listening, Fishing for Fishies, was no longer the most recent album when I saw them live. After two great opening bands that I've entirely forgotten they opened the night with Mars For The Rich and I was taken entirely by surprise. Incredible night, Mars and In Your Mind and Rattlesnake are all so good live, I can't recommend them enough.
I just imagine someone listening to Fishing For Fishies without hearing anything else by KGLW and thinking “okay, so this is what this band sounds like, idk if I’ll love this but I’ll go to this concert”. Only to go to the concert and get blasted with Mars For the Rich and be blown away.
You should try doing Thee Oh Sees. They’re very similarly prolific, and have had a lot of creative cross pollination with King Gizzard. I think anyone who’s interested in this kind of music should definitely check out both of these bands.
They’re one of my favorite bands
Found them by accident when i was 13 because i didn’t knew King Crimson wasn’t on streaming back in 2016 and i wanted to get into them, but anyways i made a typo and typed a g instead of a c and i found their name really weird so i checked Gamma Knife because that was new and instantly fell in love with them
Seeing them on May 6th for the 2nd time, and they’re playing one of those 3 hour sets this time
Found them in a very similar way when i was 12 thats cool
dont see the decision link anywhere but since they're currently undergoing their sendoff as a band, a BROCKHAMPTON dive seems fitting right about now. also def going to check out KGLW! Paper mache seems right up my alley
I think it's cus he alternates between him picking the band and us picking the band
Would love to see him cover Brockhampton. I like how he mostly deep dives into indie artists but damn I would kill for him to go over their discography, feel like he would give RR and Iridescence the props they deserve, such emotionally deep records.
This is actually super helpful and makes diving into their discography way less intimidating, I think I'm starting with Fishing for Fishies because it appeals to my sensibilities the most :)
Infest The Rats' Nest was my first King Gizzard album. Loved it.
I've watched this video 14 times since it's release.
This videos is only 8 months old and is already outdated by 5 albuns. Being a KGLW is hard work kids
Infest the Rats Nest will forever be my favourite, I could play it over and over (it DOES translate well live!). also glad everyone else loves Billabong Valley as much as me.
Chunky Shrapnel is on kickasstorrents in 4K and I’m pretty sure the band put it on there because they left a little message in one of the files
I love how gizz have put out 6 albums since this video came out and it's only been slightly over a year
I think "L.W." is one of king gizzards most underrated, along with "Float along fill your lungs" and "Sketches of Brunswick east" all 3 are I think up there with nonagon as some of their best but they aren't as "in your face" with their greatness. God is calling me back home and supreme ascendency are incredible.
I would choose KG over LW
@@imranharith8936 I enjoy kg but LW is really my jam. Probably because I enjoy percussion focused albums and l.w is very drum heavy. "Supreme ascendancy" and "ataraxia" go so hard in the drum department.
I know there are probably objectively better records of theirs, and I do love FMB, NI, and FFF, but man, Infest The Rat’s Nest just hits so hard for me. Gotta be my favorite KGLW album.
ITRN is some of the best thrash metal that's been released this century, too - thrash has largely been in decline since the advent of grunge, but records like ITRN from outsiders to the establishment metal scene are definitely a welcome sight
@@havokmusicinc I love your enthusiasm, but I feel like you're just ignoring Phantom Antichrist by Kreator.
Other than that though, I think I agree.
Seeing them do an almost 2.5 hour set in a club in Budapest the year after they dropped 5 albums is still the best rock gig I have ever seen in my life.
THE VIDEO LOOPS!!!!
MIC THE SNARAGON INFINITY
Thank you Mr. Mic The Snare for making this band my latest obsession
Their psychedelic chill sound is my personal fave. Float Along, Quarters and Sketches are fantastic albums. The heavy stuff is great for catarsis
Rats Near is the definition of catharsis.
An album that starts with a pleading scream, there is no planet B, and ends with the knowledge that those that killed the earth would be torn to shreds by demons.
Would love to see a Joni Mitchell DDD at some point, her discography is fascinating.
Last year, I went through their whole discog, taking a album a week, and while that's definitely not for everyone, it worked for me and I love their stuff now. My favorites are Flying Microtonal Banana, Fishing for Fishies, Nonagon, and Rats Nest
My favorite thing to do with King Gizzard music is when I play "People Vultures" and then start queuing up these songs from "Murder Of The Universe," "The Reticent Raconteur" to "The Floating Fire." It's a seamless transition from "Nonagon Infinity" to "MOTU"
The KGLW discog is the gift that keeps on giving
Couple of notes from an Australian fan:
- Opening on a shot of Sydney for a Melbourne band is very funny, well done
- Weird that you didn't mention Ambrose is IN the Murlocs when you first brought up Gizzfest
- Also lol'd at calling Babe Rainbow "Baby Rainbow"
- I was at the gig you used footage from during the Nonagon passage, at the Metro Theatre in Sydney. Great gig! I've seen them 11 times all up, from tiny clubs to big festivals, and they're always a memorable show.
- Wish you'd mentioned the band playing Lord Of Lightning on Conan when you showed that footage, if only for Conan absolutely RELISHING saying the band name.
- As an Australian it's really funny to hear you shorten the band name to KG, because we all call them King Gizz! That might sound weird with an American accent though 😂
Loved this video, well done!
You forgot to mention him being a Vegemite hater
The Magnolia song joke...That is why I subscribed to you Mic years ago.
You combine wit with musical analysis in the best way possible, great dive.
Could you please do a DDD for the beach boys? I know they have a crap ton of albums, but I think it would be really interesting to see. Thanks!
Crazy how this video is only 2 months old and it’s already dated
Bands with giant discographies with multiple albums released in a year have always intimidated me, and that's why I never made an attempt to get into King Gizzard. I appreciate the overview and the key highlights at the end that makes things a little easier.
Also every time I heard the phrase "KG" I kept thinking of Kyle Gass.
I saw Gizz 3 times during that 2017 5 album run, they were constantly touring while recording 5 albums at the same time, i don't know how they do it!!
i like how less than a month after this video came out king gizzard dropped a new album and announced yet another
Mic, I just can not just like and leave the video. I have to let you know of how fantastic of a job you've done with this and all of your other videos really. I am looking forward to each new video and still getting blown away by your playful writing and both tight and easy going editing. You are doing lords work, keep it up man and take care!!
7:44 "The least sonically cohesive King Gizzard album yet"
Omnium Gatherum: Hold my beer
This 9 month old video is now 5 albums out of date
thank you so much for covering my favorite band! love the content man.
by october this video will be 4 albums out of date
actually 5, Made in Timeland was also released in this timespan
“let’s hope this is the last major change in the bands lineup”
i bet that’ll be the last time we see a joke like that!
I absolutely love Flying Microtonal Banana. It's such a fascinating and imaginative exploration of microtonal and middle eastern music that made me fall in love with those cultures. Plus Billabong Valley is just a masterpiece.
I’m an Australian and I never expected that Triple J would get a shout out by an American CZcamsr.
LOL this video is only a year old and already 5 albums out of date
HE DID IT
THE MADMAN ACTUALLY DID IT
In a month, this video that was released this year will be outdated by 5 whole studio albums
I love how in Mr. Beat, the song runs at a 7/4 time signature for three measures and the fourth measure is off by a quarter note, a missed beat if you will
saw king gizz live recently, they OPENED with Self Immolate. completely bonkers live and the pits were as frantic as the tunes
Thank you so much for doing this video, I’ve been a passive audience to the Gizzard Gang for a while and have been apprehensive about joining in cause I just didn’t know where to start, this was super helpful!
Thx for the video! I’ve been wanting to get into king gizzard for a while, but I haven’t known where to start. Also, I’d love to see you do an arcade fire ddd
"Who knows? You might even see a mic stand!"
Will it be thrown at my face?
"Am I in Heaven?" might have been the song that cemented them as my favorite band, hearing the intro to that while I was tripping was one of the most surreal experiences of my life. I have stopped doing drugs but their music is just as enjoyable sober. I also think that their music is fun to breakdown and try to play. There is a lot to love about them. Great vid!
The fact that since this video they’ve released 7 albums is insane 😭. They’ve gone through a whole era of jam rock plus more metal and techno since this 😭
YES!!! I requested this on multiple videos so I'm so happy you have no idea!! Thanks man 🧡
Not only did KGLW release 5 albums in 2017, but The Murlocs and Pipe Eye also released one each, meaning that Cook Craig released 7 albums that year.
i remember watching this video when i started getting into them april 2022 and had no clue where to start lol
looking back now, each song you mentioned are valid recommendations. still can't get enough of them
Definitely going into King Gizzard now. Thanks DDD and Mic the Snare!
Also, if it drops this year, I would love a DDD on Muse. Such an interesting band with an album that might come out this year that might blow the fans socks off.
Great video.
You always make quality content.
I cannot wait for more Discography Dive(and other) videos.
Thanks man.
Keep it up.
I'm very grateful that I was in high school when they dud their 5 album year. It was great having so much music while having so much free time they are just built diffrent
Imagine releasing this video just for KG to release another 6 albums in a single year
This is the deep dive I have been waiting for!!
I can't believe someone actually likes fishing for fishies as much as I do. Very underrated album of theirs.
So many of these albums were perfect from start to finish. Murder of the Universe fit perfectly into my drive home from work when I first discovered it, so I plowed through that story probably 30 times before purchasing the vinyl without a record player.
Most of the music that I listen too is outlaw country but I have a soft spot for psychedelic rock. KG fills that spot
I absolutely ADORE that one can hear the enthousiasm with which you talk about the Gizz! It's my special interest and hearing others dig up so much on their history, talk about their work in detail and praise it for what it is makes me so damn happy, you can't imagine! Thank you so much for this video, and I'm only 7 minutes in! :D
For songs, so much of Joey's work has stuck with me: Anoxia, Intrasport, Interior People, Ataraxia and especially Minimum Brain Size.
For other things, the origin story of KGs dive into microtonality. On tour, Stu decided to take a detour through Turkey (even tho it wasn't NEARLY on the track for where they were supposed to head), where he ended up listening to a lot of local music and fell in love with the baglama, a turkish microtonal string instrument with moveable frets. As the thin neck and other bits of the instrument just didn't seem made for him, he pitched the idea of a microtonal guitar to Zac Eccles after he asked Stu for new ideas for instrument projects. Thus, the Flying Microtonal Banana was born. The following album was thusly named after the guitar, as she's featured quite prominently on the album cover :D (All this is from an Interview with Stu which was uploaded to CZcams) The rest of the instruments followed suit as they picked up cheap instruments from flea markets and yard sales and modified them (such as Lucas' 'Gubson' bass)
And the fact that Joey named one of his guitars Dickhead. Classy, Walky Jake.
AND the fact that Cavs' giant cat is named Moon Unit. And his dog Basil, which he originally wanted to name Diet Coke but his wife said No.
i love these videos because i can come back and rewatch them after listening to the albums in it and have a better understanding of everything he says about them. 10/10 youtuber fr
Just started listening to them last week this is exactly what I needed
Enjoy every second of it! I found them last September and I’ve already spent over 1000+ hours listening to them 🤣 I highly recommend their live performances here on CZcams! For example, the wheel live on kexp is top notch 🔥
Nonagon Infinity was my first real exposure to KG, and goddamn what an intro. The album just kicks ass.
Murder of the Universe is probably my fav KG album. It's just such a fun and WILD journey.
I love L.W.. SO many bangers on that album.
I’ve been waiting for this one! Can’t wait to watch it.
Omnium Gatherum has proven an awesome callback to the other albums, two of each style it feels so good to get more of everything at once.
KG: So we are making a new album right now.
Interviewer: So, when do you think you'll be done?
KG: Look under your chair.
Interviewer: (pulls out 3 albums) Wait...how?
KG: Wait...where are the other 3?
It was so exciting seeing this video hinted at just a few weeks after I began to watch your channel! King Gizzard are one of my favorite bands, absolutely love all their albums. My personal favorite is Sketches!
i got introduced to king gizz through paper mache but fell in love with nonagon shortly after!! i waited excitedly for butterfly 3000 and was not disappointed. my fave gizz songs include paper mache dream balloon, catching smoke, intrasport, robot stop, and cellophane
in the two years since you uploaded this, they've released 7 albums, I'm expecting a part 2 sometime in the future. Maybe after they've released a bit more to warrant it.
MOTU was actually the first full album I listened to from them, and it blew me away and shook me to my core. The final song sunk fear into my heart in a way I could never describe, and I was immediately hooked for life. I've been listening to them nearly every day since 2019, and the funky lads always bring joy to my life with their wild ass music.
Thanks for making this video. It’s because of this, that I’m now obsessed with king gizzard and the lizard wizard. I would of never found them if this video never existed
