Probably one of the best steering upgrades for the money. And super easy. The steering is so responsive now, the car changes direction with every little twitch of the steering wheel lol
Awesome work my man. Love your series. I have been watching in preparation for buying a GS430. Which is not easy in Australia. As I write this there are about 6 examples available country wide. But determined to get one. I know you put your observations about the upgraded rack bushes in the description but we look forward to and love to see you talking about it at the end of the video. Thanks mate. Keep em coming.
Thanks for the kind words! I hope you find a 430! I would love to go back to AUS again someday. It was a great trip when I visited back in the late 80’s! Good people. 👍
Well done video🤝🏻 I have a question also. When you did your LS400 Brake upgrade I saw you didn’t use any RCA to clear the tie rod, Did you have any clearance issue without using an RCA?
Also wanted to ask, how does the car ride with the bushings I know it’s a little soon but it would be great if you could come back to this upgrade with an update on how the car drives. Thanks for the awesome video
@Bucket3004 I wish I had a drastic change to share with you. All I can say is that it feels very solid. Like it came off the factory floor. Considering it has 180K miles, I’ll take that as a victory. 😎
Hey I just got some PPE headers for my gs 400. Wondering how to go about installing them without having to take the steering shaft and air compressor out.
Hey im getting a lexus gs400 1998 and I was wondering where do I need to start to get it supercharged and if I could maybe even add a turbo to it, im completely new to the car scene and I want to start learning how to do things I am just so lost and don’t know where to start to add some basic horsepower to the v8 engine
Negligible. It just feels really, really solid now. I guess you could say similar to rolling off the showroom floor, which is impressive for 180K miles.
@@ForwardMomentum Lol, every shot in your magnificent instructional video that showed the pre-tensioner made me jump! I've adjusted my steering rack pretensioner many, many times. First I scribed a sharpie mark line at 6 o'clock on the inner screw, so I'd know where I started. The outer lock nut requires a very large opening adjustable or pipe wrench to loosen it, turning CCW to loosen it (standard). I welded a 5/8 nut to a rod, to make a hex wrench that fits the female hex screw (.930 across nut FLATS, 24mm?). To increase pretension, turn the inner hex screw CW. Tightening the screw can remove slack in the rack, which can improve steering. Adjust the screw too tight, and the steering wheel will not return to center through a turn; more wear may occur. Max screw adjustment was turning from 6 o'clock to about 10 o'clock on my rack. My tensioner is currently set LESS than I started, at about 4 o'clock, in a desperate attempt to lighten up my heavy steering, and to help the steering wheel return to center through a turn more. Me thinks that me fiddled a bit too much with my 2GS suspension. Going to get a front end alignment next week, and this time I'll demand they measure castor angle, to see if installing Figs eccentric bushings in my castor arms will allow me to add more castor, if it is below the factory spec of -.78 deg +/-.5 deg.
Holy smokes, I didn’t even know this was a thing! You went to crazy measures to try and find a solution. Thanks for sharing. LMK if the alignment shop has any positive things to report, or at least something of interest.

You're correct about the 48 ft lbs. Also, thanks for the in-depth videos!

Thank you. I already had 19mm RCA’s installed, which probably explains why you didn’t see me install them. 😎
I replaced my whole rack in my 400 with the upgraded adjustable one. No more 60 mph shake.
Could you explain more on what is adjustble rack?
So funny I literally bought Figs SuperPro Sway Bar Bushings and I’m putting them in today on my 2gs300

I haven’t done my header install yet so I cannot tell you. Perhaps dropping the subframe down a bit? I’ll be doing this job in a few months. 👍

I have numerous episodes on this topic and question; an entire series in fact. Have you checked it out?
Have you done the rear knuckle bushings yet?
The bushings in the rear spindle where the rear traction arms attach? Yes. In this recent video:

Did you feel better steering response?
Negligible. It just feels really, really solid now. I guess you could say similar to rolling off the showroom floor, which is impressive for 180K miles.
Do you still have Instagram?
Yes. instagram.com/yt.fwd.m?igsh=aG85MzVpMW9wMnhs&
Have you ever done the pretensioner adjustment on the steering rack as well?
No

I also have the same GS and the same color, same year, 98, only volume 3.0 2 jz 👍
