    Awesome video Christian, especially the under-car video of the rear diff movement! For my 2000 GS400, I installed an OS GIKEN TCD SUPERLOCK LSD in an LS430 rear diff bought from ebay. I also bought almost every size of input and side shim Toyota makes, to adjust the gear mesh and backlash, and ended up not needing a single shim! The gear mesh grease indicated factory contact patterns, and the front and side backlash were also at the low limit of the factory specs. Impressive engineering!
    The break in was viscous! For the 1000 mile break in, the inside tire skidded and hopped around through neighborhood and parking lot turns. I thought the axles would break! Once I drained the AMSOIL 75W/90 break in oil, and filled her with OS GIKEN LSD 80W/250, turns became smooth as silk, and powersildes became fun!
    The 4 rear subframe bushings were also dry rotted and cracked up. I burned off the rubber to recover the steel cores, designed and 3D printed overmolds, and molded a sick set of shore 80D bushings. With TEIN EDFC coilovers, FIGS FUCA's and RLCA, and almost all bushings are superpro, she drives and handles like a track car.
    All she needs now is a 5 speed, and a blower!

    Why are you using the SC430 diff, rather than a GS diff with the bolts vs seals? availability? gearing? is there an advantage?

    • @ForwardMomentum
      @ForwardMomentum  Před 5 měsíci +2

      It’s actually a GS430 diff. No advantage per se. If anything it’s a disadvantage. Let’s just say I’m taking one for the team on this. Yes, I am going back to 3.2 from 3.7. My car revs up too quickly with the 3.7 in 1st.

      @ForwardMomentum ahh. Ok. I have a full pumpkin gs400 diff I plan to install soon ish. Hoping it will help my highway mpg ging to 3.2 from the 3.9.

      They are all over eBay. I saw one for $200 the other day. But yes, there are alternatives. Split Second may have something if you reach out to them. Standalone is ideal of course, but some of us don’t want to drop $2K on a SA and custom harness.

      My rear diff (also LSD) bushings are full superpro side and rear (all OEM rubber replaced/removed), and the rear diff noise did increase. However, I cut through the rear seat armwrest pocket to allow bass into the cabin, which his trapped in the bass-trap-trunk. If I raise the armrest up, which plugs the hole, I can barely hear the increase in sound from the diff.

    • @drrock5356
      @drrock5356 Před 5 měsíci

      @@mrfoxycracker4836 Yes, the bass from the subwoofer mounted in the spare tire well in my WRX wagon easily radiates to the front of the car, rattling my head.
      The bass from the trunk of the GS400 is trapped in the trunk. The most and best bass comes from the 2X 12" subs in a sealed box facing backwards, mounted behind the rear seats. I've tried several boxes, even a ported JLAudio 10W7 facing forward through the armrest hole, but the bass didn't have enough length to expand, and rattle my head.
      Beside the cut-through at the armrest hole to the trunk, I also removed the factory 10" sub from the rear deck, to help the bass reach into the passenger compartment.
