      And yet so _very_ far from being _Trek_ since it still insists on demeaning some of its characters based on race, gender, and even job classification / rank. It's so very sad that this is the 'best _Trek_ ' Kurtzman's team has produced thusfar.
      And meanwhile Cryptic Studios is over in their little corner of the MMO world writing story mission scenarios that players are saying _should_ be made into series or movies, that they _would_ watch over what we do get.

    • @What.99
      @What.99 Před 3 lety +1

      @@BNuts Yeah, it’s extremely sad what they’re doing with the Star Trek license.
      I refuse to watch Discovery and The Lower Decks. Discovery because from what they’ve shown in trailers, the writing is anti-Star Trek. They showed Spock making a joke in their season 2 trailers, but it took Spock decades after TOS to make his first joke. I don’t want poorly-written comedy in my Star Trek, I want well-written and thought-provoking episodes. Even the posters are ridiculous, with the latest one depicting the crew as settlers claiming land.
      And as for The Lower Decks, again the comedy, but also the episodes seem to teach completely opposite lessons than that of traditional Star Trek shows, all for a comedic punchline. Although now that I know Jonathan Frakes is or at least has been on the show, I’m tempted to give it a watch. I love Commander Riker, although I’d probably get irritated with what they do with his character.
      Even Star Trek: Picard disappointed me. I really hate some of the ideas that are in the show. I kinda wish they had just left Jean Luc Picard’s story alone, instead of what they did with it...

    • @What.99
      @What.99 Před 3 lety

      @Bobby Smith Grinning from ear-to-ear is a big difference from making jokes. And that was the pilot, which they hadn’t fully figured-out who Spock would be. It’s canon, but it’s also an episode before they fully figured-out the rules they would hold everything to afterwards, so I ignore that aspect of the episode.
      And where did I say that Discovery was ruining Star Trek? Star Trek was being ruined long before Discovery. I only mentioned Discovery because that’s the worst this franchise has been. DS9, Voyager and Enterprise may not have been Roddenberry’s direct creations, but they at least followed the basic vision that Roddenberry had, although Enterprise was the start of them abandoning that vision. Man, that opening song was horrible, and broke the Star Trek tradition.
      For me personally, they officially ruined Star Trek when they rebooted the movie franchise and made it all about explosions. Don’t group me in with those other people when you clearly don’t understand me.

      @myriadmediamusings Před 3 lety +9

      A Guy Called Pi I think what’s also a telling sign of its quality is that when it did get serious, it fit practically like a glove alongside the rest of them. Season 1’s finale gave legit stakes & tension, character moments, and made you feel for the loss of a particular character.
      I think when even a primary comedic work can show its serious when the chips are down, it has succeeded in various ways. And also provides balance and levity for the Trek verse that was not apparent in Discovery and all but nonexistent in Picard.

    Frakes messed up the memory of the episode. Riker didn't give Picard a Horga'hn, Riker asked Picard to bring him back one. So Picard bought it and carried it around with him (Not knowing it meant displaying it meant you were seeking jamaharon). When Picard returned to the ship, he told Riker they needed to have a little talk about the Horga'hn Riker asked him to get.

      You mean a series that follows _USS Titan_ ? Probably because too many authors already touched that nest egg. So the same reason LucasFilm gave us the sequel trilogy instead of the Thrawn Trilogy. You know, the one Timothy Zahn wrote to have the big screen feel.
      I would watch a series that follows _Titan_ and Geordi's _USS Challenger_ in a post-Hobus galaxy. I'd have loved it even more if they could have had Data captaining _Enterprise-E_ , even for a little bit, just as he did in the _Countdown_ comics, and is recorded as having done in _STO_ 's 'Path to 2409' set of historical datachips.

      I overall liked it. The last episode was a bit reference-heavy at certain points, but I enjoyed the show mostly for its original content. That said, my favorite episode is the second-last one, both for somewhat redeeming the character of Mariner (who was hands down the worst part of the show), and yes the subtler references to the movies (like the 3 minute long beauty sequence of The Cerritos). I feared the message of the show was "don't try, just coast through on natural talent and don't follow those dammed regs", but thankfully the show corrected that in the later episodes showing that Mariner did actually try, and was intentionally trying to avoid the responsibility of being promoted.
      I also enjoyed the show bringing back some seemingly forgotten pieces of cannon, such as the Exocomps being apparently completely forgotten.
      +Incombustible
      The shows opening is fairly weak. It has some good points, but it is mostly lackluster. It improves around the halfway point.
