the best part is that neither san andreas nor vice city have aged very badly. both games are still amazingly fun to play. their stories are amazing, the gameplay is engaging, the mechanics, while outdated, still hold up well in most cases and i can say confidently it aint nostalgia cause i play these games to completion once every year

I can confirm that, here in Mexico, almost anybody owned an original copy. Everyone I've known so far had a pirated copy of the game. Yup, multiply that number by 10 m
When I started playing gta 5, I felt lost, I had to look at map every time where I had go. But in SA I felt where I was, you get familiar with the map really quickly.
@J Jay The only thing GTA 5 has on SA is that it’s newer, so it has better graphics and more modern gameplay. The story is much shorter, character customization is non existent, and, incredibly, there is actually less to do in GTA 5. Online is what makes GTA 5 special

This game was life changing for me. I bought it at 7-8 y/o, living in a fucked hood in Athens, Greece and it completely opened my eyes. I listened to old school rap, country, metal and rock n roll for the first time in my life and I got to know completely different cultures on the other side of the world . I saw and explored the big american cities and learned about actual urban legends like the big foot, aliens at Area 51 and many more. GTA San Andreas made me love music, get crazy over Kustom Kulture(motorcycles and cars), want to learn english and crave to visit and live in the States. It showed me that there's a whole world outside of my neighborhood and my little country.
We kind of have that. The Introduction which is a video, sets up the story for San Andreas. You can look it up, but yes, it is a shame indeed that we didnt get SA Stories
I remember when it came out on ps2, my friend had it. He let me play it when it was brand new and I was literally shocked at how words like "fuck, bitch" etc. were used it the game apart from the previous Grand Theft Auto games :D
One of my fondest memories of San Andreas was just driving around the countryside while listening to K Rose. I typically hate country music in general, but the music selection for that station was excellent, and it created an incredible atmosphere when driving around the "deserted" areas of the game.
I have never seen a game with 3 different cities, pine forests, chilly mountains, deserts with canyons, farms, open country lands, small towns, urban police and country police with accurate unifroms! a secret govt facility and a big ass dam! This game felt like a real world back in 2005, ran at 26-30fps in 720p on my old pc. Those days are gone for good now...

Back then when i was playing this game, i bought a lot of blue jeans and t shirts in green and my parents thought it is just cause i love that colour but it was only because of this game.

while it's has less bug, the Xbox 360/PS3/Mobile remasters have bugs, but Definitive Edition (launch version) even doubled the glitches due to using mobile ports as a base. Original is always good.

13 years ago I was a college going kid and I used to play the game excitedly, same feeling is today when I am an ophthalmologist. Flying a plane listening to the radio can be a lot relaxing
the map was the best for me. just traveling around feeling like going from state to state on such a relatively small map that is giving the illusion of being huge.. one moment youre in a hood area, the next youre in the mountains, then youre in a casino in Vegas, then in the remote desert.. it was just magical

I was in high school when San Andreas came to mobile and I moved from PS2 to Xbox 360(bought the 360 version w/ achievements when it came out) but I remember begging my parents to let me buy all 3 games when they came out separately on the App Store and I still play this and vice city and sometimes 3 on my phone but San Andreas will never get old. I love driving across the whole state and I could do it 2 to 3 times a day. I would start from grove street go through the countryside and then pass through San Fierro then get on the Golden Gate Bridge and cruise down by bayside and then through the desert and desert towns to Las Venturas then take the countryside scenic route to get back to Los Santos. Good times gonna go do it now lol.
You forgot to mention that the very small details made this game: the wide diversity of NPC/pedestrians, voiceover actors, each pedestrian having 100+ voice scripts according to their reactions, resulting in thousands of different voice reactions; hundreds of playable vehicles; hundreds of evergreen song hits; the freedom to do everything like in normal life (from playing pool-arcade to take part to triathlon competitions); and of course the storyline.
I remember when I first played this game, I knew I could swim, so I went to the beach left of the airport in Los Santos and walked into the water. It was an amazing feeling that I could really swim. I just started swimming until I saw the cliffside of Back o’ Beyond. It felt like I swam across the entire Atlantic Ocean and it was amazing.
Yeah dude I got it in 2004 when I was 7 for Christmas, the feeling playing this game for the first time was magical, I was just amazed by the size of the map which I had yet to discover, jus walking around exploring this new world was magnificent

Same, i always hang around San Fierro. I just don't like the LA atmosphere in general. And i thought Las Venturas was too unbalanced in terms of geography (like it doesn't feel like an actual city, and i thought that was distracting.) San Fierro's just perfect, it's calm, peaceful, i like the cold weather.
That’s a huge part of GTASA magic for sure. Even those that were adults at the time of its release enjoy it as well, it all around was a more compelling GTA game.
the pc version also has active mod community and online community like samp and mta it's especially popular in countries where they have really shite pcs because this game is easy to run on any pc
- no load times (practically) - massive open world (especially for the time) - so much stuff to do outside the missions (especially for the time) - insanely well done soundtrack; not to mention Axl Rose on my favorite k-dst (followed second closely by k-rose for them offroad sessions in the woods trying to find the Bigfoot) - great story arc, plot and antagonist - humble beginnings and the feel of progression; some would say RPG elements There literally will never be a game that has made this kind of a jump compared to its predecessors. This, compared to VC and III, was like comparing the perfect pizza with a burnt crust of pizza.
I mean the map wasn't so big as it gave out the feeling it is. I remember just driving around for hours, the map was packed with actions, easter eggs, well designed places.

I'm playing San Andreas for the first time right now: never got the chance when I was younger. For me Vice City was it and will forever hold a special place in my heart.
What I liked most about the story was that you went from rags to riches over the course of the game. One of my favorite missions was when you later picked up Sweet from prison. I myself was wearing a tuxedo during that mission. In that moment you'd be thrown back to the beginning of the game and review everything you'd accomplished and how things changed since then.
I remember when i used to roam in los santos so much that i know every location in the game i played this game for 1 year just roaming😢 no game till date can match it
I guess my phone was listening. I was explaining to an older co worker who loves Atari, pin ball, sega,- you know the classic greatness that was the benchmark of where we are today in gaming. Explaining to him that 3-4-5 living breathing city’s were in a game that came out when I was a kid, in addition to the character/car customization… just explained to him how insane it was the peel back lair by lair as a kid…. Such a good game man
I'd argue SA was really flawed now. The areas between the 3 cities very empty and there isn't much to do there. Most of the gameplay aspects like shooting, stealth, and minigames weren't very interesting. Missions tended to involve a lot less vareity than Vice City. And many of the Side Missions are really generic and copy pasted The Main story jumped around so much from "The story of CJ in a real Crime Drama" to an over the top Crazy GTA game that it lacked cohesion
I remember as a kid for some reason I didn't get the concept of completing missions and I was so blown out by the vast world of San Andreas that for about a year I just wandered around aimlessly in the game exploring all the endless possibilities without even completing the 1st mission. Good times.
I miss playing this game. One of my favourite and memorable discoveries of the game was finding out there was a secret multiplayer free-roam mode you could play on PS2. Oh the memories.

3:32 same with the WD2 Marin forest at night. I found some weird stuff there. A bloody toilet with two rusty tricycles, an abandoned school bus with newspapers covering the windows, and an uninhabited cabin with a hole dug in the shed out back, with faint streaks of blood. There was even a cozy coupe, indicating that a child used to live there. Creepy as hell.
My friend bought the game on PS2 the day it came out. I went to his house that weekend to try out the game. When i played it for the first time i was blown away. The level of customization for CJ, the amount of vehicles to choose from and the massive open world map made the game feel so much more advanced than anything at the time and blew Vice City out of the water in that regard. And not to mention San Andreas had a great storyline as well. Despite the graphics not aging well, the game has great replay value and its still a title I go back to and play around with to this day.
This game is the definition of a masterpiece. I bought it back in 2015 when I was about 10-11and still play it to this day. I remembered driving about for a few days than started doin the missions. I’ve reached 100% twice already and have reached the maximum amount of money you can have. The detailed story and characters truly have a magic to them.

the map was the best for me. just traveling around feeling like going from state to state on such a relatively small map that is giving the illusion of being huge.. one moment youre in a hood area, the next youre in the mountains, then youre in a casino in Vegas, then in the remote desert.. it was just magical

I was in high school when San Andreas came to mobile and I moved from PS2 to Xbox 360(bought the 360 version w/ achievements when it came out) but I remember begging my parents to let me buy all 3 games when they came out separately on the App Store and I still play this and vice city and sometimes 3 on my phone but San Andreas will never get old. I love driving across the whole state and I could do it 2 to 3 times a day. I would start from grove street go through the countryside and then pass through San Fierro then get on the Golden Gate Bridge and cruise down by bayside and then through the desert and desert towns to Las Venturas then take the countryside scenic route to get back to Los Santos. Good times gonna go do it now lol.

You forgot to mention that the very small details made this game: the wide diversity of NPC/pedestrians, voiceover actors, each pedestrian having 100+ voice scripts according to their reactions, resulting in thousands of different voice reactions; hundreds of playable vehicles; hundreds of evergreen song hits; the freedom to do everything like in normal life (from playing pool-arcade to take part to triathlon competitions); and of course the storyline.
I remember when I first played this game, I knew I could swim, so I went to the beach left of the airport in Los Santos and walked into the water. It was an amazing feeling that I could really swim. I just started swimming until I saw the cliffside of Back o’ Beyond. It felt like I swam across the entire Atlantic Ocean and it was amazing.

What I liked most about the story was that you went from rags to riches over the course of the game.
One of my favorite missions was when you later picked up Sweet from prison. I myself was wearing a tuxedo during that mission. In that moment you'd be thrown back to the beginning of the game and review everything you'd accomplished and how things changed since then.

Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas is just a timeless game. It was perfect for when it came out and still a great game for today's standards.

I'd argue SA was really flawed now.
The areas between the 3 cities very empty and there isn't much to do there.
Most of the gameplay aspects like shooting, stealth, and minigames weren't very interesting. Missions tended to involve a lot less vareity than Vice City. And many of the Side Missions are really generic and copy pasted
The Main story jumped around so much from "The story of CJ in a real Crime Drama" to an over the top Crazy GTA game that it lacked cohesion

I remember as a kid for some reason I didn't get the concept of completing missions and I was so blown out by the vast world of San Andreas that for about a year I just wandered around aimlessly in the game exploring all the endless possibilities without even completing the 1st mission. Good times.

3:32 same with the WD2 Marin forest at night. I found some weird stuff there. A bloody toilet with two rusty tricycles, an abandoned school bus with newspapers covering the windows, and an uninhabited cabin with a hole dug in the shed out back, with faint streaks of blood. There was even a cozy coupe, indicating that a child used to live there. Creepy as hell.

My friend bought the game on PS2 the day it came out. I went to his house that weekend to try out the game.
When i played it for the first time i was blown away. The level of customization for CJ, the amount of
vehicles to choose from and the massive open world map made the game feel so much more advanced than
anything at the time and blew Vice City out of the water in that regard. And not to mention San Andreas had a great
storyline as well.
Despite the graphics not aging well, the game has great replay value and its still a title I go back to
and play around with to this day.
This game is the definition of a masterpiece. I bought it back in 2015 when I was about 10-11and still play it to this day. I remembered driving about for a few days than started doin the missions. I’ve reached 100% twice already and have reached the maximum amount of money you can have. The detailed story and characters truly have a magic to them.
